Don't discount items you can use with the unarmed skill (like brass knuckles) for a weapon focus.

Only one skill needed VS 2....

Course, killing hands + weapon focus is kinda redundant, as KH already affects spirits.... but the bonus dice are nice.... just not sure if its worth it starting off (Karma wise).

Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

I mentioned the spirit claw, killing hands and improved ability in my post...that's how I got the DP to 20, 23 against  spirits.

You don't have to specialize to gain martial arts.
the 7 Karma gives you the school and one maneuvering.

Specializing in that school gives you a +2 while doing the maneuvers in that school.. which is nice bt not mandatory.

And there are other spirits that have powers that work at range if you try to fight them in Astral..and face it without projection you can't expect to move into astral combat range with a spirit unless it wants you to.

Personally I have always preferred blades over unarmed, especially since you don't have to worry about the weird weapon foci/killing hands issue. Also, you can get some really nice AP by going with the claymore/nadochi out of R&G. Acc on it is alright (5), but the damage (STR+5), AP (-5), and reach (2) are awesome. Only thing is you can start will it in regular play (availability 14R), but you can start with a combat knife which has ridiculous stats, cheap, easy availability, and not even restriced. Unless you want to sack ~1 essence for 'ware to boost your unarmed damage, blades will out damage unarmed in this edition, and once you bind on as a foci, spirit armor doesn't apply either.

Agreed. This looks like a 'training wheels' edition, that you can use to introduce someone to the setting, and then shift over to something like 5E or 4E. Like how D&D 5E is best used as training wheels for D&D 3.X.

Turned in Toxshaman for ¥1 million/4 once.

Unarmed gives you the option of Stun or Physical damage without needing to use a called shot.

There are places were even a legal knife isn't allowed. Unarmed can't be unarmed unless your talking the whole Monty Python and the Holy Grail thing.

Thogh there's something about having unarmed with nerve strike and blades with a katana...
As the paralyzed victimem starts to topple over you kneel facing away with your katana facing them ready to impale  as you say:"This is a good death. There's no shame in this, in a man's death. "

I don't know how it will turn out but I'd try to go for Mystic Adept instead of a Phys Adept for this particular build but don't focus on spellcasting too much. Focus on Counterspelling and MAYBE Banishing (yeah I know it is not super good but it fits) and your Adept side instead. For your free spells get something like Mana Barrier and Mana Net to help you fight astral threats. Maybe some buffs too. My guess that Attributes A, Skills/Special B, Skills/Special C, Human D, Cash E is going to work. Didn't test it yet.

ZeldaBravo - except that we are using karma buy... and I thought about it but paying an extra 15 for access to the magical skills, and an extra 30 karma for power points where as a standard adept does get 'free* power points
