This is a different kind of battle. And The Polite Oni confuses me.

<<Sorry. I am uncertain of my group. It may work best if I speak with this woman alone? Or at least it should appear I am alone.>>

Robyn responds to the messages that are going about.  >>I think that you and Al will be in the group I and Iris are part of.  Or perhaps Iris should be with the other group?  She has been in the Garden before as have I and could help you navigate it if things start to go sideways.  The name "Garden" is not really accurate and it can put the wrong picture in front of your eyes.  This place is serious trouble, especially at night, and I am bothered that a young girl would choose such a place for a rendezvous.  Of any bloody kind, much less as a place to meet those who want to help her.  I see it is a sort of test, perhaps.  She will not be alone, but I do not know who she trusts enough to bring with her.<<

>>Anyway, this garden is beautiful by day but much different at night.  What resides there can kill the unwary, taking them somewhere no one will ever find.........................drek, I wonder...............Iris, talk to me later about this, please?  As I was saying, it is not entirely clear what the real danger is, but some of those who have escaped its clutches have emerged mad and have not lived long afterwards.  Others have come out unscathed and no one knows the reason why some are killed, others haunted unto madness, and others not affected.  The rumors are legion and run the gamut of other-planar creatures to vampires nesting there to the actual plants affecting people.  Some of the House of Flowers swear that they get their best stuff in the Garden, but other just think that they are lying.<<

<<As I wrote: Two teams: #1 in the open for the meet. Sorry, Priestess, no can do. You going alone - even with the rest of the team as back up is asking for trouble.
For the moment I'd like to keep Iris in reserve - she is a known figure down here, which can be good or bad depending on who you ask. And therefore we should ask the girl before we introduce ourselves in full.
So as I said: #1 comprised of Robyn, Mrs. Karasu, Al and me. Our two other full mages and Jackhammer with his bow + Arthur stay in the shadows as team #2 to start slinging spells, arrows and suppression fire if things go sideways.

We take this serious and move in formation to avoid ambushes.>>

It's probably obvious, but just to be clear: This decision is entirely driven by the meta perspective of having the currently active players in one group, so we can in fact interact with each other  ;D

Robyn's recap of the garden matched everything Al had read about it and pretty much served to confirm his existing opinions about this whole Moleperson Metropolis. What kind of soul would choose to live in a place like this? he idly wondered to himself. Only the damned, he concluded. And there was no worse demon than a demon by choice.

He looked around himself at the passersby on the narrow avenue they walked along. Demons all. Every one of them. Everywhere demons. All pent in close by the walls, the ceiling - some areas were more spacious than others, but the walls were never, could never be more than a stone's throw away. Pressing in. Confining. Restraining. Trapping.

Suffocating.

Whatever. He was no more than a tourist here, and a reluctant one at that.

"So what're we doin' till twenny-one-hunnerd?" he asked.

"Knock on a few more doors if you all are up for it. Since we do plan a concert a visit to the Night Symphony is at the very least the polite thing to do. Wouldn't you agree?"

Isaint rolled his shoulders to get a king out. He was still worried about the priests. As it stood they'd need quite a bit of surveillance before they found the piece of leverage they needed to speed up the processes of the funny hat wearing fraction.

Robyn considers the options and decides to take Iris' advice and not go looking for the other girl.  >>What would you like Iris and me to do between now and 2100?  If nothing, I could return home and check on my equipment, but I am certainly open to suggestions.<<

We go to prepare the ground. We need more information. Much more. For now we simply take a few steps. The Houses are Powers we must set on a path from which they cannot change once the Ceremony is complete. I will have to find some people here who know more. I will have to owe another favor, but it must be done.

"I suggest we take steps to identify and find people who live here and get information from them. We can start with the obvious people in these streets and work our way to people who know more of the true powers in each house. This will all take time. I have know people who may interact with the Houses from Above as well. There may be an avenue there."

Though I don't think Ben will be happy with what happened at his Safe House.

"Fine by me, take the lead - you have more contacts down here than me. We'll just have to make sure we are done before we need to prepare for the meeting."
Isaint nodded at the priestess and let her choose the direction.

So Deckard was left behind, in Robyn's house. For a thrill seeker like him, that was not the most exciting task. The Astral world was a place on wonder and he certainly never minded spending time there but looking for one person, with only a name and a picture, in an underworld place such as Below was technically looking for a needle in a haystack. Nevertheless, it was the task he was assigned and he'd do his best to accomplish it.

He made himself comfortable, and as he closed his eyes he felt his aura leave his body. Under the care of Jackhammer, Deckard had little to fear for the security of his body, while gone in the Astral world.

The first thing that was obvious: it was the first time Deckard had felt oppressed while Astrally projecting. For a simple reason too, the 'roof'' of Below was sometime part of the Earth itself, and impossible to cross through. In other word, he had no way to actually 'reach' the surface. This was going to make his little exploration a bit more hazardous.

'Outside' - if one could call it so - was vibrant of life, but twisted by strong emotions. Fear, paranoia, despair, the lot of those poor souls who came down Below because repression, poverty, diseases, racial bias. But he could recognize in some dwellers a sense of pride and hope.  Some auras were very unfamiliar, metatypes he had never encounter.

...to be continued
He continued at a slow pace, in the astral sense of it, and made his way toward the Houses. House Laese and the Earl court were his first interest since his best chance to find one of the bride to be... the fact that her name was very similar to the one of his wife kind of pushed the decision to look after her too. But also that he had no quarrel with anyone of the house yet. He was going to be careful though, he had heard enough crazy stories about the Laese, his first intention was to simply take a 'casual look' and map out the location  of any potential wards and Magical security the House had.

[Sunday July 5th, 2076; Gardens of Dis, Below, London]

Whilst you can never be quite sure what to expect down here the Gardens take that to a new level of weird.  The whole place is like stepping in to a drawing by Escher…at once cavernous and claustrophobic with distorted perspectives that make looking at any one thing for long cause a nagging headache at the back of your eyes!

Just before the time of your rendezvous and it seems to be dusk, with two artificial suns dipping towards what passes for a horizon and the lamp lighters guild beginning their rounds of the area to ensure a fitful glow illuminates the scene.  With the passing of the suns the plants here, a heady mixture of tropical vines and over ripe fruit trees, begin to close in on themselves, to be overtaken by a range of bioluminescent vegetation that claims the night.  Wisps dart through the vegetation, a couple springing up at you, chittering in an angry fashion before whisking away…

When Tamsyn finally appears she has two other girls with her of about her age.  In keeping with their House’s justified reputation for warfare and shrewd dealings they look to be equipped to fight a small scale border war, with high spec armour, los comm units and vicious looking matte black submachine guns…

After an interesting but ultimately inconclusive visit to the Night Symphony, the team had found back together to prepare for the outing in the park. As agreed the team split up to better be able to deal with surprises, attacks and surprise attacks.

Isaint had delegated Arthur to the back up team and left his rifle folded inside his back pack. Since this was supposed to be a friendly meeting, he left off the faces mask and helmet, stashed also in his back pack and his belt. Considering that the Warrior House would appreciate disciplined appearance, he again sent AROs to his teammates to direct them into a semblance of a secure marching order.  That left Robyn at the front, flanked to the left and right with Al and Karasu, while he brought up the rear.

When they came face to face with the girl he nodded at her: "Greetings. Have you already taken measures to keep this conversation private, or should we scour the surroundings before we begin?"

Robyn lets ISaint take the lead in the conversation opener.  It would make sense that a warrior might be better suited to talking with another warrior, but she is prepared to step in and help if needed.

Al took a hard look at the she-ork and then at her two girlfriends. Just enough to be able to recognize them again.

Then he directed all his attention to their perimeter. High, low, backwards and zig zag.

He had about as much interest in this conversation as a polecat had in eating grits. On the other hand, he was deeply invested in him and his not getting bushwhacked by another suicidal band of underdweller freaks. His internal air was on a hair-trigger; he was tempted to be on it even now, but it played hell with his smoking. Less interested in friendly appearances than their fearless Teutonic leader, his shotgun was in his hand. Hell, the lesbians were packing.

They'd checked the area out pretty damned well. And it was some comfort to know that Jackhammer, Rick, and Iris - and yeah, the damned robot - were out there ready to rain hell on anyone that fucked with them. But in this place if cannibalistic hippies had leaped out of the night blossoms wreathed in clouds of toxic ganja blow he wouldn't have blinked.

So he kept his fake eyes peeled, looking for anything out of the ordinary - or at least anything out of the out of the ordinary that passed for ordinary down here.

[Yukika Karasu - Sunday July 5th, 2076; Gardens of Dis, Below, London] #44

We wander through the Below, visiting and talking with the natives. I mark those who may serve me later. Today we are making the first steps in the long dance.

Finally the Polite Oni leads us to the Gardens of Dis. Interesting, I would speak with the Kami here. Later. The target approaches. The Polite Oni speaks, the Dirty Old Cheat looks elsewhere, and the Unclean Hound Mistress looks at nothing as usual.

Interesting opening from The Polite Oni. I await the response. Perhaps they have different protocols here for meetings between distrustful violence prone people. He has chosen to lead, and it would be incredibly harmful for me to challenge his leadership. It would be poor form for me to act now, especially after my offer is already declined. Let us see how this goes.

I observe.

Tamsyn smiled grimly at Isaint

“I think that you will find that any measures, either magical or technological, designed to overcome eavesdropping are likely to draw the denizens of this place like the veritable moths to the flame.  Let us be brief, this is a dangerous place and will become increasingly so…it is why I chose it, both to test your resolve and because it will, by itself, limit those we do not want to overhear by chance.

Your contact said you had a way to organise our dream…?”

Meanwhile Al, some distance away, can feel the hairs on the back of his unwashed neck stand on end as the atmosphere noticeably changed…there’s no breeze, but he could swear the trees were moving more than they should be…
