  • Uzi's + Fireballs .... Why I love Shadowrun!

Are the Shadowrun Mission Seasons a series of adventures that are linked together to form a campaign? Or are they more a series of stand-alone adventures?

Linked really.   Totally playable as singles for sure.   But they form a linked journey with recurring NPC contacts.

  • The universal brotherhood, considered by many as one of the best written shadowrun supplements in its long history. The adventure itself is okayish. What makes the sourcebook so great is the fullblown BOOK which is a delivered as a "handout/background" investigation. Better run them through the presented story than the adventure itself. The plot is known by many book readers and shadowrun PC gamers therefore it lacks a lot of surprise moment nowadays which made it likely way better back then when it was published. If you are interested in this plot then you will likely need players which are not that much invested into the backstory of shadowrun yet or have lived under a rock for the last 20 years. I warn you to NOT buy the pdf version from drivethru as it looks like a monkey has scanned that in. It is not one of those nice reworked versions you can find on drivethru. The UB sourcebook on drivethru is partially unreadable - especially the handwritten parts and annoying to read for the rest of the book.
  • Renraku Arcology Shutdown: Super detailed sourcebook, less than a campaign book. The plot behind it is amazing and I consider it cool even until today. Brainscan is a great addition for the source book
  • The Harlequin Adventures: Hated by one half because of the Gary-Stu/Mary Sue characters/railroading and complete drift away of any shadowrun rules in some parts it is loved by other for exactly that reason. There are very little adventures for shadowrun out there which are so different from your everyday jobs than those two campaigns. The adventures require a LOT OF preparation to be played to full enjoyment, best with several other interconnecting adventures in-between. Players should not feel like they are pushed through that whole "big save the world plot" just because the GM likes it.
  • Dragonhunt: My favorite "in your face"-adventure to play when you want to show your runners they have reached a level far from milkruns. However, the adventure itself has many problems. The ending likely needs a complete rewrite and there are several plotpoints where the players have only a single solution presented. My players disliked it, but I loved it. I think it is less that the adventure is bad, than that I didn't keep the flow well enough as this is a highly complicated adventures if you want to dig into all the background of this other than "go there, get that, kill those, dont get killed by them".
  • System Failure - It is less the plot itself that is cool as the importance of the plot in the meta-arc
  • In general anything written by Nigel Findley, as he was one of the best shadowrun authors. Sadly he died young, so there is not that much stuff out there.

Thank you for your input NoxMortem, really useful. The pdf I found of Universal Brotherhood indeed had unreadable text in it. Anyone know where I can get a better version?

I will definitely check out your other suggestions.

Sorry I just bought a used printed version from someone. Maybe if enough people ask at drivethru they are able to rescan the document.

The version I bought from DriveThruRPG is fine, so either Equinoxz needs to re-download, or perhaps didn't obtain his copy from them?

I did obtain mine from drivethru and just did a redownload. I have really no idea what kind of quality standard you have but page 52 is unreadable and others have the same blurry quality problems oO. It is not about beeing a perfect new pdf but some of those pages are really a mess. No matter what quality standard one has, it definetly is not one of those redone pdfs like Renraku:Arcology Shutdown.

The font on page 52 doesn't help, but I find zooming to 125% helps.

I ran my runner team through the Universal Brotherhood run back in the day in 1e and man were they shocked.
The looks on their faces when they uncovered the truth was priceless ;-)

I've been debating converting the Universal Brotherhood storyline and the Arcology Shutdown into other systems to get such good writing into games when my buddies don't play Shadowrun.
Would you want to go into a place where the resident had a drum-fed shotgun and can see in the dark?
