So, some of you may recall I asked for and received some very good advice for a troll combat adept, however I misunderstood the character creation methodology and did not realize the troll lifestyle cost increase was NOT just for the cost of living such as street, low, middle, luxury, etc.

Mercifully the GM as allowed me to bring in another character, and I'd like to create an elven combat adept. We are using the priority system and at this point I am going with the following priorities. A: Attributes. B: Magic. C: Elf(3) D:Skills 22. Resources:E 6,000 Nuyen.

I would like to be a carromeleg practitioner and have at least some melee powers, such as killing hands, and perhaps astral perception. I know I want killing hands, but the astral perception is intended for spirit combat and I'm not convinced of the need for said power, and the assensing skill I'd need to accompany it.  Primarily I'd like to focus on speed and ranged combat...I know I'll be taking Improved Reflexes level 3. Other than than I'm fairly open to suggestion as I really am a newb at this and don't really know the "must-have" skills and powers.

I'd also like any background/street-name/story suggestions. As I said I intend to be a carromeleg practitioner, I will likely speak some Sperethiel, though possibly not a native tongue. I considered being the son of two elven shadowrunners, perhaps one from each Tir. I even considered being the bastard son of Evan "Blackwing" Parris. Our current setting is Boston, so that may or may not factor into any suggestions, and I'd like to thank you all in advance for any comments, hints or suggestions.

Actually that is EXACTLY what the increase does. If your GM doesn't know that show them a core book errata.

TROLL LIFESTYLE COSTS
(P. 65, METATYPE & SPECIAL ATTRIBUTES)
The second sentence of this section needs to be clarified.
Change: “Trolls receive Thermographic Vision, +1 Reach,
and Dermal Armor, but they also receive the disadvantage
of having to pay an additional fifty percent for gear because
everything—including cyberware and bioware—must be
specially modified to meet their massive physical requirements.”
To “Trolls receive Thermographic Vision, +1 Reach,
and Dermal Armor, but they also have the disadvantage of
having their Lifestyle costs doubled to reflect the costs of
adapting everything they use—especially their gear, including
cyberware or bioware—to meet their massive physical
requirements."

I could be mistaken, but this seems to clearly state that lifestyle costs, including, but not limited to gear, cyberware, and bioware is increased for trolls by 100%. Hence a combat axe would cost 8,000 nuyen, rather than 4,000 nuyen. When one considers the future costs of heavy armor, heavy weapons, magical weapon foci, and living class, its just way too much....hence my decision to go with an elf combat adept.

That was put into errata soon after release; Troll and Dwarf characters (and their metavarients of course) only pay increased cost for lifestyle. It is assumed that lifestyle increase pays for "up-sizing" everything for them. You can find the errata here: http://cdn.shadowruntabletop.com/wp-content/uploads/Downloads/E-CAT2700E_SR5-Errata.pdf?c1abe8 but the part you need for this conversation is:

They probably should have left out that final bit about cyberware and bioware, as it confuses a lot of people still, but only Lifestyle is increased.

To the elf:

IR 3 is overkill at chargen. 2 is sufficient and comparable to most combat characters. That extra PP can go to better stuff. You also want Combat Sense of at least 1, probably more, and Improved Sbility 3 for your combat ability (forget if carromaleg allows any weapons). Filling it out with more combat sense is never a bad plan.

Astral Perception is better as a qi focus. Situational stuff in general is, with stuff you always want access to being better as known with PP.

Yeah I forget if Martial Arts generally have weapon restrictions, my brain is focused on other game systems in which that is the case.

Elemental Weapon as a qi focus if not outright bought is pretty good, as long as you can maximize your action economy with something like Rapid Draw. Critical Strike is good but you can only take it once for a weapon so it's not that useful initially (and certainly not like core functionality stuff), but later when you have some PP to burn after initiations, it's great.

Look at the Wolf mentor spirit. Free Attribute Boost AGI 2 is great. Or try to swing Prototype Transhuman for Essence-free Muscle Toner  ;D

Prototype Transhuman
this is the best positive quality imo. You can take then superhuman psychosis for that sweet +1 die to blades and unarmed for free~(who cares about etiquette).
