I was wondering about this recently most runners are city bound so weapons aren't a major problem since you have contacts, knowledge of the areas etc. But if you need to move between countries or are on a time frame and need to use air travel or another high security transit what methods have people used to get weapons into their hands at the other end. I'm not talking about a local contact who supplies some stuff that works but your own personal gear you don't want to do without e.g. weapon foci, personalized guns, custom sized armour and the like?

Hire a smuggler or ask your fixer. If he organizes a run for you abroad he should damn well know how you can get your gear over there.
If everything else fails, you can always buy one of those fancy transport drones and have it travel to your destination.

First of all it depends very much on the country in question as they have very different Laws regarding this issue and in some countries certain types of weapons are deemed "normal" while others certainly are not. Fx i recall that the Nan books mentioned that in several NAN countries hunting weapons were very easy to bring, while any sort of Automatic or handguns were definitely not. Another example, if you go to La Serenissima then bringing a bladed weapon should be somewhat of a formality, while bringing any sort of firearms would be hard to do.

That being said, if you have a good fake corp ID, preferably from a corp with extraterritoriality and that said ID gives a good reason for why you are bringing these Things, such as a fake ID, which says you Work in corporate security then it becomes much easier to bring weapons with you. In the campaign where i'm a player, globehopping is very much the norm, so what people have done is to make sure that they can bring a few but favorite items with them consistently and then use local ways of supplying the rest. But that has also cost a considerable amount of Nuyen in fake licenses and ID's.

Also landbased entry is often different from airborne entry, so sometimes it can easier to fly to a neighboring country with maybe more lax Laws and then drive up to the border, it takes longer time though.

So our campaign is globe-hopping with no fixed address meaning our runners have to cross borders frequently.
(Personally I find sticking to Seattle a tired old trope, there's a whole world out there to run!)

Our team manages it a few ways:

1). mostly they carry pistols across borders (for which you can mostly get a license)
2). they carry foci across borders where permissible (mostly they are)
3). they have to disable any military grade 'ware for the flight / sub-orbital between countries but none of our team actually has anything like that (i.e. SMG in cyberarm etc).
4). for their big guns they either rely on their client to bring it in for them or their special relationship with Kond-Orchid the rather dodgy shipping company.

hope that helps!

  • If you're not Awakened, you're just another NPC.

Our current team gets around it by all of our characters being Awakened (or Emerged) - we aren't carrying any weapons.  My mage has her foci surgically implanted, so they're not even in her baggage if its searched.
Madness takes its toll - please have exact change.
