[Cynthia Rawson - Sunday June 10th, 2075 - Dante's Inferno] #80
Cynthia grumbles "
You know, it wasn't that fun to begin with, but if you give your permission it's not fun at all..." Pausing for a second, she smiles "
Unless it's a challenge of course. And I never said I was exceptionally qualified..." Blushing a bit, which hopefully, is hidden by the lighting conditions in the club, she amends after a small pause, seemingly embarrassed "
Ok, I may have said that it would be easy...but err...I may have exaggerated a little..." She frowns, pensive for a bit. Then she adds, mournfully "
You' ve got a nice piece of hardware... Must have cost quite a bit."
Despite what she's saying, Cynthia tries to hack Tanya's comlink in the pauses of her discussion. Not sure she would be able to mislead Tanya, but who knows... She begins by checking which Grid Tanya is currently using, and hops on it. Then, she instructs Sherlock to send what he found up to now to her, a file she'll read later. Once she has that, she dismisses him and calls Arsène, making sure he's at peak form: she needs his A game here.
Pleased with the result, and glad she managed to be good enough not to take a hit on that compilation, she proceeds. She instructs Arsène to put a Mark on Tanya's 'link, while she assists him. Once it's done, she's pleased to notice that no alarm was raised. Or at least she hopes that Tanya's absence of reaction indicates that she succeeded. Or that Arsène did at least. Almost done, she asks Arsène to tag the 'link, to allow him to intercept any data traffic to and from it. After small scare, where he almost failed to do so, Cynthia threads a Resonance Veil, to hide Arsène Mark from Tanya's possible scrutiny. Taking a small hit, she rubs her eyes, as if a light beam had hurt them. Could have gone better, but it certainly could have gone a hell of a lot worse.
Now, all that's left to do is wait...and try to not slip. Supposing that Tanya ignores what she just did. Which she doesn't really believe but...
Tapping her lips, she asks Tanya "
Must be a Caliban right? It helps a lot, but I hope you modified it somewhat. It's pretty nice off the shelf, but it can be really good if you just add some small modifications. Even if it would make my "job" harder. Costs a lot of course, but then, I suppose you can afford it."
So, since it's a bit more involved than usual, I rolled the dice. I hope I didn't forget anything, but if I did, don't hesitate to make the rolls yourself to save time.
Edge was spent since Cynthia really wants to make an impression.
Matrix Perception (Grid used by Tanya): 13d6t5 4
Since she's not running silent at the moment, I have what I need, and can hop to the right grid (to remove a -2d modifier, which I forgot on the perception roll by the way...)
Grid Hop (Tanya's grid): 12d6t5 5
Grid defense: 6d6t5 3
Compiling the level 6 crack sprite
Compile Crack Sprite: 12d6t5 6
Sprite defense: 6d6t5 3
Fade resistance: 13d6t5 8
Best result I could hope for! No fade damage (despite a 6DV) and three services, that's cool.
The sprite hacks the 'link, while Cynthia helps it.
Hack on the fly (Teamwork test, Cynthia's roll): 12d6t5 4
Hack on the fly (Teamwork test, Crack's roll, pre-edged): 21d6h5 10
With ten successes, I suppose I'm in the clear here and I successfully put on mark on the 'link. I shouldn't have pre-edged since the limit would have been 10 anyway and waited to see the roll result but...well...
Same, but for a Snoop action
Snoop (Teamwork test, Cynthia's roll): 10d6t5 3
Snoop (Teamwork test, Crack's roll): 17d6t5 3
Snoop (Teamwork test, Crack's roll, edged): 14d6t5 6 (total of 9, sleaze for sprite is 9, +1 for teamwork test, so limit is ok)
Note that here, I made a mistake and automatically made a roll with an edge point spent before, which I shouldn't have since I realised before that it's not efficient at all (the limit is high enough for the current dice pool). If you want to take that roll into account though (which I would totally understand, I made that roll first after all), I only got 4 successes. If you do and it fails (which is not unlikely given the defense pool), I'll change the IC of course.
Resonance Veil level 5 to hide the mark from Tanya's scrutiny (if she ever looks at the mark on her 'link)
Resonance Veil [5] (Hide Mark): 12d6t5 6 (Limited to 5)
Fade resistance (DV 4): 13d6t5 2 (2S unresisted)
Nice result on the veil but a bit of fade damage. Not too bad though, so it's cool.
After that, Cynthia will thread a bunch of cleaners on herself and the Sprite to remove OS (at Level 2 it takes a little bit of time but she doesn't take damage) and then finishes by a Static Veil to hide the Sprite from GOD. While doing that she's sustaining the Resonance Veil so takes a 2d penalty, but it shouldn't matter after that.
The sprite's last service will be spent on looking at the files in the 'link. Since the Sprite is level 6 and only failed attempt at cracking files would give it away (it will have instructions to leave alone files with a protection rating of 5+, so something that's not really probable with a 15d pool. If there are files with a protection of 5+, Cynthia will help when she can which should be enough unless there are very high rating) it should be able to access pretty much everything....if I didn't miss anything, which is of course entirely possible.
Cynthia does not expect to see anything really interesting here anyway, since only a fool would have really juicy stuff on his 'link, Caliban or not.
