Ok, let's see
The first thing you want is your priority
For your concept I suggest:
A: Attributes - Those are the most expensive to raise later and in general high Attributes are preferable in a lot of situations
B: Skills - for your concept you'll probably want a few points to spend - maxing out is recommended since Karma costs later on are pretty prohibitive
C: Magic - you aren't interested in many magic skills and only want a few spells, so this is ideal for you
B: Human - Gaining 3 special attribute points allows you to raise your magic to 6
E: Money - you are magic man, so you aren't that gear dependend
Getting Power Points is cost intensive: 5 Karma/point and only during Char gen. So you want to max them out
Get yourself some negative qualities: Code of Honor: Warrior is pretty good if you keep non-lethal options in your repertoire or you like to attack in the open. Get some other nice quirks for the other 10 points
National SIN will cost you money and make discretion very important, but it enables you to take part in the official world without investing heavily in a fake sin
Spend 30 Karma for your power points.
Spend 10 Karma for money
Look at positive qualities you like for the other 10 points (Quick Healer is highly recommended, as is Mentor Spirit)
Skills:
You have 5 points for a skill group: I recommend taking the Stealth Group: That one has no redundancies and the skills are valuable for every shadow runner
Get one ranged and one close combat skill
You want Gymnastics and Perception
One Social Skill of your choice (Con, Intimidate or Leadership are all viable ways to interact with your environment)
Spend the rest as you see fit
Spells: Heal, Manabolt leaves you with 3 more free spells:
I recommend: Detox, Mana Barrier and Increased Reflexes or an Attribute of your choice.
Detox allows you to take drugs for various effects without suffering afterwards. Mana Barrier is effective to protect you from enemy spells, spirits and even allows you to dispel others by intersection (look into the Mana Barrier chapter).
Since you want to do close combat damage, getting Increase Strength will allow you to do enough damage to be relevant. Increase Reflexes can free up 3.5 power points that you normally would want to spend on the adept ini improvement.
A word on Ini: You want it high. Not only will you be able to take out enemies before they can hurt you, you can also spend it to go full defense so you aren't hurt by those still around.
For gear:
Get an Armor Jacket and a Lined Coat + Helmet
Get one ranged weapon of your choice
Get a low level lifestyle
Get a low level fake SIN (R2)
Get a commlink and a Trode Net
Get a Micro Transceiver
Get a Micro Welder
Get some Pepperpunch grenades
Spend what's left on drugs or a Yamaha for transport.
...at least that's how I'd build that concept of yours
