Crossing the forest, Waywalker brute force attack passes throught the forest noise, and reaches the sensor device attached to the wall.

Sensor resisting Brute Force attacks: 11d6t5 4

Sadly, the sensor is not so meek as Waywalker expected.

Rex noticed how Waywalker flinched.

@Haywire: As I often forgot this, please do remember that failing an Attack action means you have to resist some matrix damages:

Quote
"If you fail an Attack action, your target’s security software rejects your code, corrupting it and sending it back where it came from. If it was normal data, then your system could check it for errors, but in this case it’s some pretty vicious stuff designed to avoid Firewalls. For every net hit the target got on its defense test, you take 1 box of Matrix damage, which you can’t resist."

Also, the sensor is now aware it has been attacked, so it has most likely sent a notification. No need to panick yet - you are to far away from something to be dispatched. And it is no unlikely that just failing to hack the sensor will be enough to trigger a full blown intervention.

The firewall hit Waywalker's deck.
"Hmm...it seems you're a tough nut to crack. I should move closer..."

resist matrix damage: 5d6t5 3 (No damage)
I'll move a little closer, eventually increasing noise with my RCC to interfere with the sensors
pilot groundcraft (jumped in): 14d6t5 4
create noise (EW): 13d6t5 3

SOX Border Sensor trying to pick on Waywalker's van coming closer through the forest: 10d6t5 1
@Waywalker: you now need to roll Intuition + Sneaking (+ control rig + hot stim if full VR) [Handling] (that is how a rigger jumped in can drive / pilot "discreetly"), if you do more than one success, you won't be spot by the sensor.

Your pilot groundcraft is enough for you to manoeuver the van, without crashing it and get it closer to the border.

Driving carefully through the woods, with a van barely equipped for off-road is not minor feat, and certainly Waywalker makes a good job at that. Fully jumped into his vehicule. He is also keep track of the van signature, and tries to stay as close as possible of the three, or beneath the foliage, to be sure that the SOX border sensor has no chance to spot him.

The rigger managed to get as close as possible, under 100m, of the border, but hidden by the forest. Here the noise between his deck and the border is certainly reduced quite a lot. He is still far from having a clear signal, but things are definitely better.

Noise rating is now reduced to -5d (-3d of static that can't be scrubbed nor reduce, rest is due to the foliage).

Waywalker knew there was a sensor, so he activated his radio signal scanner to go in its blind points. After some time, it was time to pass without a trace...

resist matrix damage: 5d6t5 4 (no damage)
Sneaking past the sensor: 13d6t5 7
Teamwork test from Deck: 9d6t5 4
hack on the fly: 13d6t5 3

Waywalker is definitely doing a great job at manouevering the van closer without being picked up by the sensors array at the border. With less noise, and thus a better connection, he can now gives an other try to getting some MARK on the device - but this time, a bit more discreetly...

Sensor resisting Hack on the fly: 11d6t5 4

Gosh, it beats you by one success ! that is unlucky for you :( - as this is a failed Sleaze action:

Quote
If you fail a Sleaze action, the target’s Firewall software detects the intrusion and places a mark on you. A device immediately informs its owner, a host launches IC.

So you've been marked, and border control has been notified of the intrusion (unless you prefer to use edge to re-roll failures)
[/spoiler]

... Darn, this is not Waywalker day. Despite their software being out of date and the noise reduced, the SOX border still somehow managed to dodge all the hacks of the decker, but also put a MARK on him.

Host's IC Initiative: 4d6+10 20

No chance for the Host to act before Waywalker reboots, so next combat turn:

Sensor resisting Brute Force attacks: 11d6t5 4

So 3 net hits for Waywalker, thus  a MARK and some damage to Sensor.

Sensor resisting Brute Force attacks: 11d6t5 4

The sensor can't resist being edited.

Just after rebooting his deck, to lose the MARK on it, Waywalker jump again, all gun blazing, into the matrix. He first blast the sensor with a brute force attack, and finally gain a MARK on it, and then immediatly edit the footage of the sensor log, to cancel immediatly the alert, but also erase his van from the camera feeds. Somewhere, on the SOX border control, a bored MET2000 see a red blip on one of his ARO screen, but checking the feeds, see nothing amiss, and cancel the alert...

In fact, the guard border is certainly missing some serious driving action, as Waywalker managed to extiparte his massive van from the thick forest, and have it charges toward the breach inside the wall. The breach is quite small, but the rigger is not afraid of doing some stunts to pass it. Using a nearby pile of dirt to propulse the van a few dozen of centimeters above the ground, he makes his vehicle jumps across the breached wall. Landing on the other side is bumpy, but - thanks to the previous hacking, absolutly ignored by the SOX border control.

Going down the hill for a few dozen of meters, still off-road, is again a bumpy ride, but Waywalker managed it as smoothly before find an old, clear abandonned road leading to the small town of Mohrange. It's not going straight to the meeting point, with the IA, but it is going in the general direction, and the runners are already late. As the van leaps on the road, Waywalker start to accelerate as much as possible...  but driving on such road will not be easy.

@Jack_Spade I assume you check the astral during the border crossing - none of the spirits patrol and in sight have (apparently) paid attention to your "big chunk of dead metal" jumping across the border.

@Haywire time to roll Reac + Pilot (Groundcraft)[Speed + CR] with a minus 3d - every hits counts, as the clock is runing out !!!

FYI, I've updated the following map and added pins for Mohrange and the agreed upon location point with Racer.

@Jack_Spade: background count is 1 on the road, but will be 2 @Mohrange. Hopefully, it will decreased again once you clear Mohrange to get to the meeting point.

I outsorcered the overwatch to my spirit  ;)
But good to know.

Rex whined a bit as the van accelerated over the uneven ground. Lying on the floor he didn't get the benefit of a well cushioned seat. But he knew better than to complain - this was Waywalker's show. His job was to keep an eye on the spirit that kept an eye on the astral. So far they seemed to have escaped notice on that front.

Waywalker's persona opened fire on the Sensor Icon, shooting sling of malicious code at it. Some of them passed through the firewall and the Icon started to blur.
In the meanwhile, the van crossed the wall and landed on the other side.

Again Waywalker is doing an excellent job negotiating the road - or more exactly what is left of it, to get to a fair compromise between crashing into one of the twisted tree surrounding it, and moving at decent pace. Quite soon, the runners arrives close enough to Mohrange to see the outskirts of the town.

A long time ago, Mohrange used to be a nice, little town in the north of France. Now, it looked more than deserted, it looks dead. Going through the empty street, it seems like that not only people left, but civilization itself end here a while back. Most building have been stripped to the bones, and the wilderness have already reclaimed most of the city surroundings. Only the heart of the little town, comes out of the massive, and twisted, trees that all but eaten her. The place is certainly eery.

Strangely enough, as the Waywalker's van is getting closer to the heart of the little town, the road gets even less even, forcing to slow down a bit. As the vehicle is zigzagging through urban jungle, the level of noise outside is also tuning down. The SOX is indeed surprisingly green and lively place. The trip up to the little town happened with constant background of animals noise, and the van sensor always picked movement, in the nearby bushes, generally jumping (or slithering) away from both the road and the van. But the minute the van is getting into the small town, all echoes on the sensor seems to fade away...

<<Careful, it might not be as bad around here as further in the zone, but there are some pretty bad spirits and critters around. It might be wise to get our new suits on before we go further. Not to mention to keep an eye open for mutant zombies and radiation elementals.
Damnation. The corps should really keep that wall in better repair.>>

Rex had stood up to peer through the window, looking around nervously.
