Rest Fear: 11d6t5 3
Shit.
Two rounds of abject terror
Resist Fear: 11d6t5 2
And he never wants to go into town ever again

The wave of abject terror moved straight through Rex and made him whimper, trying to hide in the foot room of the car

The sudden wave of fear almost paralyzed Waywalker. "Rex, no way I'm going in that shithole again!"

resist fear: 10d6t5 3
resist fear (second chance): 7d6t5 1
I used my last Edge for nothing :(
Initiative: 5d6+6 20
pilot groundcraft (jumped in): 14d6t5 3 (do not crash)
pilot groundcraft (jumped in): 14d6t5 8 (Chase) (Limit 5)
Evading lock: 14d6t5 3

How do I evade being locked now? Increasing noise? Rebooting?

So, out of Rigger 5:

====
BREAK TARGET LOCK (SIMPLE ACTION)
Marks required: None
Test: Electronic Warfare + Intuition [Data Processing] v. Logic + Sensors
Passive targeting and active targeting with sensors are described on p. 184 of SR5. If you know that you’ve been locked (or suspect it), you can to try to break it.
Choose an enemy that has (or you think has) a lock on you, and make the Opposed Test. For every net hit, you reduce the target’s lock on you by one hit. Your RCC’s
Noise Reduction rating is added as a dice pool bonus for this action.
====

Note that I did not applied any bonus/malus due to SOX's noise, for simplicity sake, - but if you jam the signal, this noise will apply. Also, as Break Target Lock is a simple action so you can try twice at each phase.

In a run, everything can turn around in a matter of seconds. Just an instant ago, Waywalker van was almost out of range of its pursuer, and out of lock. Then they hit Mohange, and all went to shit. They Goliath driver has now a strong lock on him, and Waywalker - terrified by the idea of going back again in the dreaded, haunted town, just slammed the break and took a sharp turn, leaving the road behind him.

@Waywalker, for your next driving roll, the threshold has increased by one, due to the (very) off-roady condition. I think we are done with third round,  so let's roll initiative again.

Dodge Goliath driver Init: 4d6+10 19 (only 2 actions this turn)
Dodge Goliath driver tries to gain on Waywalker's van: 14d6t6 1)
Dodge Goliath Vehicle Control Test: 14d6t6 2 (Threshold is now 3 - crash !!! Finally some luck going your way guys!)

@Waywalker remember that you character won't be aware of the vehicle crash before the end of the round, so act accordingly ;)

Try to keep up with Waywalker, the Goliath also jumps off road, on an interception trajectory - sadly, a large tree also happens to seat in the middle of this path, and the driver somehow fails to notice it in time. He nudges the vehicle enough to avoid ramming the tree, but the manoeuver makes the car lands into a muddy part of the ground that stops its course almost immediatly.

Rex breathed easier as they moved away from the cursed city. But once again they were being chased - and he was unable to do anything without endangering them through this damnable poisoned environment. So all that was left for him to do, was to encourage Waywalker to be as awesome as possible
<<You know you can do this. Keep the wheel steady and don't ram that boulder, break line of sight with those assholes  and we are going to get out of here alive.>>

Waywalker's meat body sweated as the fear leaved him a little shaken. Going off road was one of the best decision he made in the last hour. "Rex, thank you for your help, now let's try to be out of this shithole ASAP!"

Initiative: 5d6+6 17
pilot groundcraft (jumped in): 14d6t5 4 (do not crash)
pilot groundcraft (jumped in): 19d6t5 6 (limit 5) (Chase)
Next turn:
Initiative: 5d6+6 22
break target lock: 17d6t5 7 (limit 6)
create noise with the deck: 13d6t5 6 (limit 6)
pilot groundcraft (jumped in): 19d6t5 3 ( do not crash)

With the Goliath crashed, Waywalker obviously win the chase, but more importantly...
Dodge Goliath tries to maintain lock on the Waywalker - despite noise: 3d6t5 0
... break the target lock !

In a matter of seconds, after the opponent crashed, Waywalker's Armadillo sneaks into the woods surrounding Mohange. Quickly, the rigger surrounds his vehicle signature with a powerful jamming signal, and thus shakes off the target lock. When the van comes out of the patchy woods, and lands back on some kind of road, the now quite battered van is free of any follower. It takes just a couple of minutes for the runners to find they bearing and aims toward their entry point...

But both are aware that getting of the SOX, might be even more difficult than getting in ! Indeed, the security surrounding the radioactive wasteland is mostly designed to keep "things in"...

@Waywalker you are still a bit away from the exit point, but you can use your sensor array to have a feel of what might be there

@Jack_Spade background count is back to 1, you can breathe a little ;)

Rex felt easier as the pressure from the astral lessened and his spells began to assert their power once again.
Being able to once again take care of his form on his own he communicated with the Kami inside him: 'Oh great warrior, thank you for your service. As my last request I ask you to conceal us once again from prying eyes until we have left this damnable wasteland.'

Rex keeps up the mana barrier and uses the last service of the spirit to have him use concealment on the van for a -8 to perception for both people and sensors

To Waywalker he sent: <<Cloaking is engaged - it's not invisibility, but should give us a better chance to sneak through.>>

Waywalker's jam destroyed any kind of lock the driver could had on him.
"He got a tree in the face...I do not know if it's the spirit, but better this way than on my heels."
Rex's message made him smile: "Seems we're still on the run! I'll check if we should be aware of something in that breach."

Given the output of Waywalker sensor array, it was clear that the mana barrier and the magical concealment provided by Rex's kami will be needed. Clearly, the mercs corp MET2000, in charge of the SOX perimeter is on the look out for the runners. Waywalker can spot at least a couple of heavily-armed Hughes WK-2 Stallion flying in the direct vicinity of their exit point. It's unclear if the chopper could d have already spot the van, but for sure, they would be able to as soon as Waywalker get close to the breached hole.

At least, on the bright side, the path to said exit point is clear. No troops on the ground - for now. Remains to get there without being spot. And of course, remains also the question of the magical defense, once there. However, as their vehicle gets closer, Waywalker's cyberdeck reports that more devices than when they crossed it last time. Apparently, an icon - not running silent, is now floating in AR, nearby the breache wall...

@Waywalker time to drive sneakily again, please roll Reaction + Sneaking [Handling] - my own roll will be penalized by the concealment power and any Signature Masking rating Waywalker's GMC Armadillo may have. And you can roll again Matrix Perception if you want to know more about the icon you just spot.

@Jack_Spade as you are well-aware, there is spirit patrolling the border, so let's roll Perception + Intuition [Astral] to see what you can see maybe lurking for you in the astral, when you get closer to the exit.

Having passed the haunted city was a big relief for the rigger. Now it was time to pass unnoticed - easier said than done.
To: REX "I'll take a couple extra seconds trying to be sure of what we're going into...Let me know if we have problems on the mojo side."

Perception: 14d6t5 4 [14d6t5=3, 1, 2, 5, 6, 6, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 6, 4, 2]

Rex had pressed the window to roll down, now that they weren't that close to the poisoned region anymore to get an unobstructed view into the astral. The mana barrier would shield them to a degree from divination attempts in addition to the concealment, but something told him that there was more lurking around here. He concentrated, taking in all the auras around them.

Gazing through his own mana barrier is certainly not making Rex's task easier, but the mage manages it anyway. His sight reaches into the horizon, and he can finally recognized, inside the astral space mist of colors, the now familliar shades of the wall itself. He follows it until his eyes finally catches on with the astral reflection of their exist point. Rex spots there a rather strong disturbance in the astral space, nearby the breach in the wall. He will need to get closer, and focus more to do a proper assesing of the aura, but there is definetly something ... "awakened" nearby.

@Jack_Spade you can now roll assessing if you want to know more about the aura nearby the wall

Assensing: 11d6t5 4

Rex concentrated. He knew that his skills with aura recognition was woefully inadequate, but he couldn't bother the Kami with this task unless he wanted to risk its ire.
Luckily the otherwise opaque mana barrier was attuned to him and he had no trouble to see through like through a one-way mirror.
This might still become a very interesting finale to their daring escape...

The Icon, what is it? (I.e. a deck, a commlink?)
2)Rating of Firewall?
3)Device Rating?
4) Last Mateix action?
