I understand now from a previous post its better to think of it hacking a network than master/slave.

Let me ask about networks in Shadowrun.

I know you can have Hosts networks and you can have commlink PAN's, but what about stuff not on either of those like home appliances? Are those on a home network that has no Firewall? Do homes have the equivalent of a Rating 1 Host? How would that work for a medium lifestyle?

I did go into any detail on that yet, so technically there are no rules for it yet, but yes the intent is to have home networks to be a bit of a hybrid between PANs and Host that would effectively act as a low level host for the most part but would only have access to Data Processing and Firewall (for a legal off the shelf system anyway)
