Might look into Forever War by Haldeman as a compare and contrast to Starship Troopers - Haldeman was a grunt in Vietnam and Heinlein was an officer during peacetime and I think it really informs their respective takes on war and the soldiers who fight it.

Heinlen was also Navy.  No dash against the Navy types, but IIRC, the Navy's first rule of getting into a small-arms fight is to send the Marines.

The Stolen Throne by... A person? I dunno. XD It's one of the Dragonage Novels. :3 It's alright.

I was expecting it to redeem Loghain's character since it takes place before he became a Teryn and supposedly a good (not freaking crazy and traitorous) man... but nope; still killin' the bastard on my next playthrough. XD

Navy's answer: if it requires anything smaller than a Ma Deuce "for ship defense", bring the marines. if the target is closer than half the max range, call more marines!!
Carpe Noctem (seize the night)
Carpe per Diem (seize the pay), Carpe Dentum (seize the teeth), Carpe Denim (seize the pants)

no, i won't "just get over it."

Just for giggles...
Assuming you've time, compare Heinlein's Moral Philosophy to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Note how the criticisms of Maslow from Max-Neef and from Hofstede apply to Heinlein's work as well. (Fair notice: all three are psych, not philosophy. But I think they're an easier row to hoe than Kant or Hume and their Duties and Responsibilities.)

In my experience, Philosophy and Psychology don't mix well.

You mean the same way that Business and Ethics don't?

I guess it depends from what point of view on both cases...

It hasn't come up, but my character, "Money" Johnson has a Masters in Business Administration and a Bachelors in Ethics.

And, despite paying people to shoot others in the face, he sticks pretty true to being ethical.

When I was a uni student, I flicked through my room mates Business books trying to find some Business Ethics - about all I could find where ways to get around being deemed unethical in employment/hiring practices, and in marketing. ;)
