Going to be digging up the Eisenhorn Omnibus in a short while to start in on the 40k. I've ignored the property as a whole until very recently.

I recommend the Gaunt's Ghost series.

The Horus Heresy series is also rather good, though I haven't read anything after the fifth or sixth novel.

Totally agree.  The first three were awesome, if a perhaps a bit despressing.  To see such ideals slowly corrupt and fail..  I'm about the same, upto Legion.

Really good read.  Not sure how well it will be translated into a movie though..

Anatomy of a shadowrun. Getting quiet a few 'oh, that's how it's meant to be done' moments

Have similar concerns/questions...actually think it would work best if shown as a "pseudo-documentary", much in the same was as the book.  Should be interesting to see how we'll they deal with the real horror...people and the choices that needed to r made.

Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter by R.J. Anderson. Wonderful book, written by a dear friend. My daughter, aged 7, who is very into fairies, is finding it interesting because it's a take she doesn't get from Disney. Which is as it should be.
