Another FASA junkie here. We'd been playing Battletech, and when Shadowrun came out, the gaming group grabbed it for a spin. We were playing stock characters out of the book, with me getting the Mercenary, and his light machine gun, Sarah Jane. Of particular note was the first bar we went into requiring all weapons to be dropped off at the 'coat check' room. Everybody dropped theirs off, and when it was my turn, I got to do a two minute routine of pulling guns from holsters, throwing knives, grenades, more knives, more guns, etc etc etc. Then picked up the LMG to go inside.
"Hey!" says the bartender, "You can't take that gun inside!"
"She's not a gun," I reply, "She's my baby!"
Good times, good times.
(My first original character was Sundown, a native of the Makah tribe. Still in first edition, so no concept of physical adepts yet existed, but that's what he would have been. All organic, not a shred of tech, ate real food (Paid a fortune for it, too!) instead of soy crap, operated as a bounty hunter since he could freely move from Seattle to the countryside and back. Darn cool guy.)
