I'm not talking armor, I'm talking slouchy tees and off the job jeans. Do you worry about that? What about a tux or evening gown for those upscale places?

During games I tend to doodle while I listen, it helps me focus, so I draw up outfits for my Elf. She's got so much clothes now you'd think she was a Face.  ;D

So basically what I'm asking/discussing is off the job clothing. Does your PC run around to the grocery store in his armor? Or does he have something he likes to wear?

While I don't write out every outfit (I assume a lot is included in lifestyle costs) I do have almost all of my characters own at least one pricey suit/gown, something from Mortimer of London or Zoé de Paris.  And now with Attitude it's even easier to see these things.

I do love Attitude. I have yet to read completely through it due to a lot of real life interruptions and bouts of inspiration to draw another outfit, rofl. I will admit to making my Adept on Second Life and dressing her up accordingly.

Attitude has all the details you'd like for clothing if you're buying outfits and items suchlike.

But, yeah, most people just go with the Lifestyle.  That Middle Lifestyle doesn't look so bad now, does it?  You blend in a lot more places!

GM'ing - I actually have an award for fashion.  If the players attend a high class function and don't wear something befitting, they suffer applicable modifiers.

That's the way it's supposed to be.

I mean, if you're in a synthlether lined duster, knock-off denims, and a t-shirt at a black tie event...

Yeah, there's a reason why my Sasha's custom lifestyle has Luxury Necessities.
I like to think she has a big closet full of clothes from Armanté, Zoé de Paris , Ripon of Mumbai, Ami Feather, Mortimer of London, Laurentine de Lion and Vashon Island 8)

That's why you don't buy knock-offs.  If they're designer, people will assume you're a rock star they've never heard of, write off your lack of class, and try their best to ignore you.

Your Minigun has it's own lifestyle?

That's why you don't buy knock-offs.  If they're designer, people will assume you're a rock star they've never heard of, write off your lack of class, and try their best to ignore you.
Or eccentric.

To put things in perspective:  There's a story about a friend of the family that showed up at a department store after working in her garden and not changing out of her work clothes, the staff ignored her completely.  The next day, she showed up dressed what was normal for her, which is quite well.  The staff fell over themselves to help her.

She politely pointed out that she could buy the store five times over and not give a damn about the cost, and that she had been in yesterday and ignored based on her appearance.

Moral One:  You will be treated as you appear.  Try to blend in when you want to be invisible.  Try to clash when you want attention.  Try to be as ostentatious as possible when you want people to remember the clothing and not the person in them.  "He was in a human wearing..."  "But anything about the human himself?  Complexion, eye colour, hair colour?"  "Now that you mention it, I don't remember.".

Moral Two:  Never assume.  That guy sleeping in the gutter in the beat up lined coat that's so old it's cracked?  Street Samurai down on his luck and willing to gut you three ways before you hit the ground with his martial arts and cyberspurs before you hit the ground for dissing him.  Or, alternatively, someone doing overwatch.  Also, he might just be a bum...  Who is a contact of an enemy and is being paid to watch and report on who goes in and out of a building.

One of our players was questioning a 'bum', turned out to be a ridiculous ganger that moved like a marionette.

Your character has a wardrobe based on lifestyle, if you are using the expanded rules in Runner Companion I thinks its under necessities.  If you want armored clothing (and I think all runners should have some, there are times when you can't wear the heavy stuff) or clothing beyond what your lifestyle would provide you should pay nuyen for it.  A well prepaired runner should have gear on hand to cover a nice club or a fancy party and still have some protection.  Jobs are not always paramilitary gunbunny stuff.  Sometimes you need to blend.

I most certainly agree, but recently she's been on the run and hiding out in various places. Now our living quarters are paid for, we own a 24 floor apartment building and we're collecting the protection.

Actioneer Business Clothes, an almost must-have for almost any 'Runner.  Even if just for the meet with Mr. Johnson.  The Concealed Holster as standard is a nice touch, and I usually get an RFID Tag Eraser and Fire Resistance as standard options on mine.

Line Coats are another popular option with Shadowrunners since 2050.  ("You get one when you graduate from Shadowrunner School." as one person in my group put it.).  Not as fashionable with the higher class, but perfect for street wear.  Or, in the right brands, they are great trenchcoats or greatcoats and fit right in during the rain or cold seasons.  (Aside from my beard, noone would look at me twice in my greatcoat here in Winnipeg.).
