A new day arises and Barbosa is sore from the day before of sitting in one spot for several hours.  He looks through several empty cabinets in his kitchen before finally remembering he left his painkillers in the bathroom.  He pops 2 as the normal dose as he asks his servant to clothe him again.  Once his jacket is on he gets an odd fragrance and sniffs the sleeve, he shakes his head a bit god that smells like shit.  He heads out down to the coin-op laundry down the street from his apartment.  He runs his credstick by the scanner on the washing machine and washes his clothes, he enjoys the quiet hum off all the laundry and the silence of the people waiting for their clothes to dry, but inevitably gets bored and annoyed from waiting.

One more day...

Sorry to throw all this in the middle of the chat, but I didn't want to seem like I wasn't active

Lucky becomes visibly more relaxed as the details of the run are laid out for him. "Time seems essential so I'll try to make this quick. I need to know the following details to make arrangements: Is the conference on UCAS territory; does anyone, including the target, know that we are providing security detail; do you have any details on the nature of the attack; what is the security level of the neighborhood for the conference?

If we're having to cross into corp territory, we'll need to gain access to the site. If this hasn't already been taken care of, it will cost extra. If the attack is viral, toxin, or radiation based, that's going to cost extra. If we have to go in low key, which horribly reduces the chances of successfully pulling your person out, that's going to cost extra to the base fee. And then of course we get to expenses: Medical, Travel, Ammunition..."

Lucky ticks his fingers to each point he brings up, and then glances at his pocket watch.
"A general increase in pay across the board will probably be easier than coming up with a case by case cost analysis in these limited times."

Edged Negotiation (2 Defaulted Charisma + 5 Edge = 7 dice) [5 hits]

As Lucky is talking, he's also paying his tab for the club and plotting how long it will take to grab gear from his house as well as those of his two companions. He also sends a private message to Bypass and Valk: Know anyone who can provide magical support?

Barbosa pings himself in late for the meet, for the persona name CaptBarbosa, it's as stereotypical carribean pirate as you can possibly think of I think the only real info we need is what to wear for the meet, everything else he's sure to explain, ain't that right capt'? Barbosa gives a gesture as tipping a glass towards the Johnsons direction.

Bubba Ray ducks a thrown object and then sighs as his daughter storms out of the house again, furious. Glass shatters. He sighs again, and goes to clean it up. That's odd...among the beer cans and various other odds and ends is a chip he does not recognize as one of his own....Where the heck did she get this? Bubba Ray stares at it, then decides to take a look...

After he gets a beer and looks at said chip, Bubba Ray calls Bypass. "Hey, Bypass, are you busy? I may have some minor decryption work for you. Can we meet and talk about it?"

Valkyries Head turns to Lucky's persona for a moment, then back to the J. , still that was enough time to type up a message to the rest of the team.
Text@ team > Yap, time is essential to him, but for us too, ByPass needs a minute or two, that's not much to ask for is it?<
turning Back to the J. Valkyrie goes on with the Conversation Voice@EveryOneAtTheMeet >My collage here is right, the sum seems inadequate. My father always Said, you can have quality, you can have it Fast and you can have it cheap, but you can get only two., so choose wisely. Seeing how you speak to us, not KE or LoneStar it seems you need quality, and the conference starts in 1 hour so it's fast, I guess there is no place for cheap then. Do I stand correct on my assumption? One more thing My Collage forgot to mention is the question about some money up front. For expenses that might occur in the case some guards get suspicions, or we need a special piece of equipment for this particular case. I would suggest the 5k you are paying us just for being there might be up front, as it is the part of our pay we will get anyway.<

Bypass doesn't say anything. In realspace, Lucky sees that Bypass seems distracted. More in OOC.

The panda looks back and forth between Valkyrie and Lucky, then addresses Valkyrie.
I've some slack, but I was assured Mr. Lucky would assemble a good team by the person who brought him to my attention.

Cards on the table. My organization is the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Unlike one of the majors, we don't have deep pockets. I can increase the payment if things go wrong by a little, perhaps another 5,000¥, but that's the limit for nuyen. Not expenses. We literally cannot do it.  If you cannot take the job for what we're offering, say so and I'll see if I can find another employer.

The panda pauses, pulls out a bamboo stalk and strips the leaves a moment, then continues.

Actually, we might be able to do a little more. We have a medical contract for our grounds. If you have wounded and can get them to the ABG, I can swing initial medical treatment. It'd be about what DocWagon would provide for basic service, excluding the extraction. And yes, we can explain gunshot wounds and other, ermm, interesting injuries.

The site is Horizon property, but it is an open border facility so access is not an issue.

If you agree, I can agree to half the 5K up front in the form of a certified credstick. Because I can understand the issue of, ermm, trust, we will also put three more credsticks in the hands of a mutually agreeable third party who will verify their balances. At the end of the day you will collect at least one containing the other 2,500 and the rest if things turned, ermm, unpleasant. If nothing happened, my organization will collect the unearned sticks.

If I may suggest a third party, Mr. Lucky's friend who brought us together is satisfactory. We have an arrangement and will take care of his holding fee in this case.

Will you take the job? If so, I can get down to details.

COMMON KNOWLEDGE: Cobb Galleria is adjacent to the I-75/I-285 (north) junction. It's to the immediate southwest of that junction.  It's a conference center/hotel, roughly 15 stories tall. Cobb Galleria is a Horizon owned facility.

"I'm in, it seems simple enough."

Easy money, should have been here instead of pulling bodyguard duty for 200¥, Lucky thought to himself. Still there was that unsettling wrenching in his gut, like things were already destined to go badly.

A long look from Valkyries persona in the direction of the Panda Icon. The moment is tense, you can feel how the eyes are dismembering The panda, looking for cracks, for holes in the Armour, where you could get in and take some more advantages from the J.
... Still no word from ByPass, hack, he is letting time go by when we are short on it. ****! OK I have to do something. ...
"We are taking the Job, we are interested, but before we finalize the deal we would know everything you can tell us about it."
then sent a private message to ByPass
Text@ByPass >>Hey buddy, what's with the Searches, need some help or can't find anything, hive us at least something, even if it's just that you have nothing.<<

While sitting and apparently lounging at the bar, Bypass is actually fairly busy.

Bypass determines that the Panda is using an encrypted signal and he's got a stealth program running. Mr. Johnson seems almost as paranoid as he is.
Quote
Analyzing Pandas Icon:  Computer (5)+ Analyze (5) + FullVR (2) = 12 dices
10 dice. 10d6.hits(5) → [6,1,5,2,5,3,4,5,4,1] = (4) 10d6.hits(5)=4

Mr. Johnson gets 2 hits in the opposed test. 8d6.hits(5)=2
Bypass decided to start tracing Mr. Johnson to figure out where he is. Just as the rest of the group is deciding to take the job, the trace succeeds. With a quick map-link he's affixed -- he's on Peachtree-Dunwoody, about a km south of I-285 and headed north at about 70 kph.

Quote
Tracing Panda to originating node to get approx (+-50m) GPS: Hacking (4)+ Trace(5)+ FullVR(2) = 11 dices, Extended test, Thresshold needed
Threshold per rulebook is (10, complex action).
9 dice.
9d6.hits(5) → [1,5,1,1,1,5,6,5,5] = (5)
9d6.hits(5) → [2,2,5,4,3,3,2,2,6] = (2) == 7 hits so far
9d6.hits(5) → [1,5,1,3,1,2,6,3,5] = (3) ==> matches threshold of 10
9d6.hits(5)=5, 9d6.hits(5)=2, 9d6.hits(5)=3, 9d6.hits(5)=5, 9d6.hits(5)=2
Excellent.

The principle is Dr. Julie Bouckaert. She is scheduled to give a presentation on her most recent research during the last session before the closing keynotes. That is, at about 4:30 pm. The closing keynote is at the dinner that starts at 6 pm.

He "hands" a  file to each of you. A quick glance shows it includes a picture and short precis. It appears to be from one of the "please invest, these are some of our assets showing why" packets ex-non-profits used to give out. He also hands you an outline of the conference schedule.

I'll expand and write both of these if requested - no need to role play request. Fast summary:
Dr. Bouckaert is a female troll, approximately 45, PhD in entomology with focus in anthropods of the eastern CAS. She's credited with discovering three species, one of which is paranormal.

The conference has a keynote opening at 9 am that is scheduled for one hour. After that there are three presentation rooms running, with each presentation lasting a bit less than an hour -- leaving about ten minutes between to get to the next. There's an hour and a half break for lunch at noon, and a half hour between the 4:30-5:30 presentations and the 2 hour "dinner" that starts at 6 pm.

Beyond that I do not have her schedule.

At this time she has not been told of your employment or of the possible threat. I decided to leave the decision  of making that notification to you. I'm providing you a verification keycode so she can confirm you're legitimate if you need to talk to her yourself. Or if you want I can contact her and let her know both of the possible threat and of your existence.

The only maps I have for the conference center are the ones Horizon posts on the matrix.

We know that Lone Star has responsibility for the security of the conference. Since there have been some, ermm, demonstrations at other entomology schools and conferences I would guess the security is a bit higher than normal, but can't ask without telling them why.

I want to emphasize that I cannot tell you my source, but it's usually been reliable. The source tells me that some members of the Exterminators have decided the parent organization has been too parochial and, ermm, passive with its demonstrations in the UCAS and is looking to make a splash. My source believes they intend to do so at this conference, and that the splash will be violent. What form the violence will take is unknown.

Common Knowledge: Bugs in Chicago scared people. Some of the scared people have done protests. Some of the protests have been outside government and corporation offices demanding they "Do Something." The Exterminators are a - or possibly several using the name as an overall label  - UCAS protest group that believes, loudly, that many if not most entomologists and bug collectors are fifth columnists for insect spirits. They say they want the government and corporations to institute severe restrictions and controls on those sorts of people. They say so at regular protests (bullhorns and signs supplemented by AR tricks) at a variety of schools and "public" places.

Oh. I will have the credsticks with release and escrow arrangements in the hands of Mr. Lucky's contact within 15 minutes.

Is there anything else?

"Just a few more questions, how do you intend to get us in the complex with our equipment if you prefer that we are not official bodyguards?"
Valkyrie thought a moment and then continued "And did your source had any information on their primary target, if there is any?"

ermm, I was going to leave how you get in to you, the professionals. I suppose you could always by a conference pass, but I don't know their equipment restrictions. Or, of course, the ground floor is pretty much open to the public so customers who want to use the hotel portions of the upper levels can get in.
There's a brief pause while the panda chews more on its bamboo stalk.
No, my source had no more specific than that. It is one of the reasons we can't take this to Lone Star.

Point is that he can make you feel like Sandra Bullock if you dont stop bitching. I got nothing usefull, he is calling from remote location, somewhere on the road...using encryption and a few hacker tricks to hide himself. Not very common for honest person, IMO, but if he is impostor, Im not able to say right now.
