Time...Time...Time...
Who's got the time. Just don't ask the rabbit with the pocketwatch :) Since it is an issue for the submersion, I'll wait until there is more down time. I've made some rolls. If this is acceptable GM, I'll adjust the character sheet accordingly.

Day 1:
Machine Sprite L2-2 services-1used
Register(4)+Res(5)+2TM=11d6.hits(5)=5
Resist 4=4d6.hits(5)=3
Fading=10d6.hits(5)=3
+1t stun takes 2hrs 2services

Crack Sprite L3 (w Spoof)- 1 service
Register(4)+Res(5)+2TM=11d6.hits(5)=4
Resist 6=6d6.hits(5)=4
Fading 10=10d6.hits(5)=4
+2stun for -3stun total 5hrs
Register(4)+Res(5)+2TM-1stun= 10d6.hits(5)=5
Resist (6)= 6d6.hits(5)=4
Fading: 10d6.hits(5)=1
+5stun for 8stun total. Total 8hrs spent. Not feeling good, getting some food and getting some rest.

Day 2: learn Spoof at level 1 (2 Karma)
Intuit(5)+res(5) +3sprite (5,1d)= 10d6.hits(5)=5 + sprite aid study (3d6.hits(5)=2 )
Crack Sprite services are done

Day 3-4: learn Command at level 1 (2 Karma)
Intuit(5)+res(5) +2 sprite (5,1d)= 12d6.hits(5)=4
Bought success (3) Command Sprite 1 service remaining

Day 5:
Register Lvl 4 Crack Sprite (Defuse) 4-services
Register(4)+Res(5)+2TM= 11d6.hits(5)=6
Resist 8= 8d6.hits(5)=2
Fading will5+res5= 10d6.hits(5)=3
+5stun @ -1 penalty took 4hours
Finish the day helping Unca Omar

Day 6-7:
Run the net with Gimmly, catch him up on my latest exploits, while we working on exploit specialization (2 Karma) Helping Unca Omar to acquire new fridge and furniture and working with him on controlling drones.

After this is all said and done, Mouse ends with a Hacking (+2 exploit) skill specialization, Command and Spoof at level 1, a registered Machine Sprite R2 with 1 service left and a Crack Sprite R4 with 4 services. The spoof and command forms I figured he'd learn/use by watching Unca Omar at work. He wil eventually try to learn the defuse complex form after watching Unca Omar place that data bomb in his node :D

And how many time has passed since the Trash the Body Electric Mission (so as for me to imagine what Fractal has been doing during this time).

The skill extended tests acumulate. in case of 'normal' people they use their rolls for each day.

You are an exception, because you sleep less, and you work on two shifts.

there are no paralel progressions of the skills. If you inquire about Snake's rolls - he is studying complex forms - they use different rolls/times than standard skills.

Imo about this submersion/initiation...there was a very short time between adventures for such a task. Well its GMs call...
time is not enough i know, but the possibility is there.
just like gaining a skill group over a period of a month doing extended tests.

That really depends on the resonance task / initiation ordeal. master sourcecode or master thesis can be done over several weeks (it is like accumulating hits on skill group/skill). Other methods like self crippling or always open of course. Special tasks, like master hack / metaplanar venture need a roleplaying adventure to accumulate.
Sorry for a small delay ;)

Oh, I just noticed a problem (Fractal was the second character I made for Shadowrun, so when I made him, I was unaware of some rules yet). All my armors are giving Fractal emcumbrance penalty...

Well, Sen, just to be sure, are you using any of the optional rules for armor from Arsenal (pg. 45-46)? In either case, Fractal will need to go shopping.

you can use optional armor rules, just post here which ones exactly you're using for my information

Proving himself to the team is a change in attitude and it might be seen as a change in Ryker, could it not? the Stun ball was a change then all the other times he failed, at least on a personal level he had done something he wished for and soul searching for what he gained and what lost, as well as searching for the meaning of his life is a great reason to initiate, and ryker could find a magic group that helps him do it, are at least give him a task to fulfil to gain a new level of understanding, aka reason for initiation.

Casting a spell at maximum power isn't sufficient achievement for initiation.

There are runs in missions, that serves as initiatory ordeal, and we will be running them also. There are other ways for fast tracking initiation (human sacrifice, self mutilation, restriction on spell casting). as well as method to reach initiation through a more time consuming process (writing and publishing thesis on magickal subject). The problem is that other than his shyness, there was so far very little background on Ryker to perform initiation and none relating to his magic school.
Sorry for a small delay ;)

snake, JDA, I'm sorry, but the submersion and initiation will take more than that.

I would have told you earlier, but today was the first time I've actually read that part of the books.

Last run could be the basis for some source code (btl related) submersion task for Mouse perhaps, but there are rolls related with that and time requirements logic + software(9, 1 week) extended test

there was nothing however that could make a basis for initiation ordeal for Ryker.

so - in case of Mouse you can make first roll. in case of Ryker, either save karma or choose other improvement.
The submersion task is not required, unless I want to reduce the amount of Karma cost. I can pay the full price w/o doing the submersion task or using a "guild" Unwired pg141-142.
I don't think my character would yet know that such a task can be performed yet. He's being led in the direction to go by his friend Gimmly. After experiencing it once, he could start to learn about these tasks and guilds. Usually after doing something once, you learn how to do it better. His first submersion is about reaching his first resonance realm.

If GM still says that I have to do the submersion task, then may I either specialize in a skill or learn a new complex form and then begin the process of submersion (make the first roll) and specialize in a skill? Or does one roll after the week? Either way, if the character will still have the karma to pay for both.

That's might be just me. I don't see submersion/initiation as an easy way to gain sexy upgrade to the stats. That would be unfair to other people that have to spend time on learning their skills. The task is mandatory and reflect gaining understanding of Matrix/Astral. There is a 20% cost reduction attached of course.

And for the record, I think that Mouse throught the enitre BTL trip/Taske interaction/combat with and against sprites/agents gained enough insight to qualify for the submersion. You only need to decide how to iron out this experience into actual upgrade. I am not limited to the tasks presented in the books. Feel free to PM me with other proposal.
Sorry for a small delay ;)

I don't have a problem with a time requirement for submersion, I couldn't find any in the books so I assumed the week would be sufficent. I'll try to think of something like maybe find Taske's source code.
Anyway...here are the changes made to Mouse...
{Health: 0 / 9P and 0 / 11S damage, 0 Wound penalty, 0 Stun penalty} | {Edge: 2/2}
{Initiative: 7; Initiative Passes: 1 } | {Initiative(Matrix): 11; Initiative Passes(Matrix): 3}
{Ballistic Armor: 6; Impact Armor: 4 ; Mods : None}
Alias: Mouse
Name: Nathaniel Smith. Race: Human
Sex: Male   Age: 14
Nationality: UCAS

Lifestyle: Low lifestyle(1 month paid) -10days

Description: a thin wiry boy,  slightly malnourished and pasty white (about 85lbs) with short light brown hair clumped into small spikes (Jap Anime style) stuffed under a Rockies ball cap. His light brown eyes carry hints of things unseen to most and has lost the innocence of youth. He sports a Magma T-shirt under a lined jacket and worn blue jeans and sneakers to complete the ensemble.

Motto: there’s always a hole, you merely have to be small enough to slip through it.

Street cred: +1
+1 the sheer amount of bodies and damage warranted plus succesful clearing Dean of his charges, made you a little more known in the shadows. There was little in a story that has to be hidden, so you could brag about the job (and how you four-handely tacked an army of BTL zombies) in the street pubs, basking in glory and waiting for another job.

you got a +2 to your relations with Casquilho Mafia (this will give you a bonus of 2 dice to any social roll with members of that faction)

Background:
A male human about 14yrs old physically small and frail looking. The only child of Middle Class parents who worked most of the time to make ends meet. Despite that they were never there, Mouse’s parents were extremely over-protective of their only son. He was rarely allowed out of their sight (even when away they were always watching) and only rarely ventured outside. He grew to be extremely introverted immersing himself in the datastreams of the Matrix and science of computing (in which he found his special gift.) Several years ago his parents were killed in the crossfire between a gang and security personnel. Sent to an orphanage, he continued surfing the tides of the Matrix. During one of his surfing (hacking) escapades, he happened upon an entity in the Matrix (a Ghost) claiming to be the essence of a hacker trapped in the Matrix during Crash 2.0. This ghost took Mouse under his wing becoming a mentor and friend to a lonely orphaned boy. The derelict attitude and trouble with law enforcers caused the orphanage to expel him. The mouse is free at last!

Through a Rose-Colored Display Link
Caught while intercepting a call to a shadowrun team in a Casquilho Mafia restraunt, he is taken under the wing of the team’s rigger/decker. There he tries to aid the team to fight against the BTL zombies created by a renegade sprite named Taske—all to free the mafia’s top hacker Dean.

The only other thing I can think of would be for Mouse to download some old Jap Anime trid (such as) Ghost in the Machine, so that he and Gimmly can watch and laugh about out how they got it all wrong (or right.) How much for several of such trids?

you can use optional armor rules, just post here which ones exactly you're using for my information

I just wanted to buy a Custom Made (Arsenal, pg. 44) Chameleon Suit with Thermal Dumping 4; The modded Chameloen Suit would cost 10.000 nuyen, but I believe this price should raised considerably for it being Custom Made (which would allow me tu use it without receiving emcumbrance penalty, since it increases the armor allowance to Body X 3).

It is one piece of armor, if you ask me...there is also an optional rule that says Ignore encumberance if you are wearing single suit...

@Sent: Sorry pal I still didnt make it to get my qualities puzzle solved.I got a Deadline on friday with my journal articles...I hope Ill found some time at least to read the list in RC and make some counting.

There's it, also.
Well, since they are both optional rules, let's wait for the GM's call.
