"Face it you Fraggers. Denver is a sub-divided, pain-wracked, schizophrenic, self-serving, epileptic, sado-masochistic haven for the divinely warped. And I love each and every one of your bitter, thrice damned souls."

- Right Reverend Donald R. Byrne, Street Samurai

Once again fraggers, welcome to Denver !!!

SPOILER WARNING: this game is played using the official Missions 02 - 09 Tunnel Vision scenario. If you wish to ever play it do not read any further.

Bring In The Clown

With what become a suspicious routine (if it is suspicious it must have been Ghostwalker doing) two weeks after you last endavour (and dangerously close to the point of scrubbing nuyens from a long forgotten Stuffershack promocredstick (worth 5 nuyen) found under the coach in case of Fractal. You got another call. It’s been a dark and stormy night in the Mile High City that day, and the call had come just before dawn.

"Good early morning, pals." It was a conference call, and she didn't start talking until everybody connected. Tabitha was visible in a sexy night gown (well at least the part that was visible was foxy). "Got a job for you you. It’s essentially a search and rescue mission. Be at the corner of Broadway and Evans Avenue in 2 hours. Bring your gear. But don't make a show on your arrival. You're going into corporate zone, so you'll be allowed heavier armaments, but there will still be PuebSec around, and they seem to be buzzing like if someone hit their nest with a torch." She yawned, but you aren't entirely sure if that wasn't on purpose just to stretch before your eyes. "Oh.. I almost forgot. I've heard your mage left, so I took the liberty to invite astral support. He goes by the hook of Lips" she send you a picture of a caucasian male, human most probably. Good luck, I've heard some good talks about you on the streets. Make me proud on this one, and you'll be heading onto higher pay level of jobs.

The mentioned call to Lisp was actually made by Karmen, but the message conveyed was more or less the same - there is a search & rescue mission to be performed. A runner team is being hired, but they lack magical support, and since the threat might be of magical origin, you're asked to join. Detail under given address in CAS sector in two hours.

It was late, but Sam had just returned from his late night smuggling runs for Miguel. he just got barely 3 h to sleep until he had to return to practising the new skills he knew he needed, thou most likely he would have to clean up his place first. almost all electronics were opened and tinkered with, some even damaged, his goggles did not show him the termographic vision, the headphones lost the Spatial recognition properties even thou the mod itself was working. Sam himself felt a bit woren out, a free day was well overdue, but there was still so many things that needed to be done and bought, he was no where near the quality work he was used in the corp, not even mentioning equipment, this was a different world entirely, but he knew that recreating the Corp resources would be impossible. thou he could try to get the essentials, right?

Tabby called when Sam had had just 2 h of sleep, and it showed in his reaction, he almost droped his com, cup of green tea and his brackfast all in one morning. this will have to end. he would need to get some sleep hours.

"Good early morning, pals." It was a conference call, and she didn't start talking until everybody connected. Tabitha was visible in a sexy night gown (well at least the part that was visible was foxy).

„Morning, Tabby, beautiful as ever I see.” They chatted a bit until everybody else joined the conference call.

" we will do our best."

When Tabby ends the call on her end Sam asks Omar >Can i ask you to pick me up in CAS, Lunar Nocturne, or will you damn me to the Public transportation system?<

Text@Jeff > there is a new team addition on my side, a mage who goes by the name of Lips, ever heard of him?<
IDN, chummer, complete enigma to me. Karmen is selling him leads and Karmen is smuggling things for Koshari. German by the way he talk.
the answer was a rapid one, but it's normal for this early hour to see the club almost empty
"sorry to hear that, but thanks anyway, the next round is on my tab."
, no wonder none of the Wiz knew Lips.

Sam prepared himself put both his Zapdos taser and the new Vertigo HP in the respective holsters and while Omar was on his way shut his eyes for a minute or two.

Fractal woke up with the 'link calling. The dim light that came off the window was enough for him; he is keen eyed as eny elf, but the last days living in almost complete darkness left his eyes a little too much sensitive. Sitting on his bed, he received the call

"Good early morning, pals." It was a conference call, and she didn't start talking until everybody connected. Tabitha was visible in a sexy night gown (well at least the part that was visible was foxy).

Fractal didn't know the lady, but he remembered that his friends told him about her. For a brief moment, the thought of not being in his best figure to a video call with a girl startled him (having just waked up); but then he remembered his face in the mirror, and decided there's no way for him not to look good. And "Tabby" didn't seem to be scared by his eyes, which was a plus. As soon as she ended the briefing, Fractal answered: "You may count on me on this one."

The elf rose from bed and stretched, not remembering the last time in which he woke up so soon. The Bow Mar plant job, maybe? Not very important. He went to the bathroom to groom himself, and after some minutes started to pack everything. The changeling wore a casual clothing with a coat that hided his taser holsters, but also packed his business suit; Tabitha didn't tell them what kind of job this is going to be, so it's important to be prepared with the right garment.

He puts the glasses and deactivate the blinds that had been in use for so much time. Out of the darkness, and into the job.

@Omar: Hey, buddy, will you give me a ride, or shall I call a cab? I believe I'm a little bit out of route for you, but we have some time before arriving.

Waiting for an answer, the elf wondered what kind of person/runner would this Lips be.

Lips was reading a news feed, ignoring the small maintenance programs which go on and off. Something weird is going on with the building node, but the Security Hacker, the landlord hired, didn't found any intruder. Maybe those programs are from that hacker itself, making some after checks. Lips make a mental note to ask the landlord later.

The location of the place as reported by grid.

Lips ordered a cap to pick him up and started to prepare his gear, wasn't much though. His hands automatically moved to this nicer jackets in his wardrobe, but since Lips, most likely, won't have the luxury to sit in the car the whole time and search&rescue are normally not done in Downtown, he put his normal armored Clothes on. All foci and fetishes in place, cane in his right hand and the cavalier scout between the medkit suplies in his carrying case. He almost forgot his commlink, but fetchs it in the last moment and activates his FakeSIN, when he left the building.

On his way done, he stoped at the landlords door, to tell him, about those matrix issues. As always, the landlord grumbles something in his dwarven beard and closed the door.

He stops the cap somewhere before the meeting point to take a small sneak and coffee, soy or real, whatever is in his  money plan for this month. With a small plastic cup of coffe in his hand, still steaming in the early morning, he approaches the meeting point, around 2-5 minutes before the 2h ende.

Silent alarm from his implant wakes Omar from sleep thats more like unconsciousness. Omar learned to sleep well in the field, when circimstances allowed it. Every soldier and mercenary knows the value of it. And...for some reason, Omar had no dreams...and also no nightmares...for quite a long time. With every augmentation this gets better and better, as if implants help him to severe the bond that links him to his evil twin.
Routine check of the network shows that other team members are receiving the same call...and that they are accepting it. Tabitha. Who the fuck is this bitch? Waking him up in such early time. He notices that even Mouse is awake and online. Lurking from under his sheet, Omar sits on his bed, shaking the head and then walsk to the bathroom. When pissing to the toilet, the right time came to pick up the call. Yeah. piss on you bitch. During the call Omar remains silent, lets others do the negotiations. When washing his hands he sent short command to CHN, and soon the scent of roasted bacon starts to fill the air in the living space. Good breakfast is a base of sucessfull day. And since there is some work on its way, its possible that it is the last breakfast in his life so Omar really wants to enjoy it.
Transportation requets from team members that followed the job offer Omar takes into consideration. He dont want to cross borders more than absoultely necessary.
I`m picking up only those living in Pueblo or CAS sector. Don`t have money for multiple borders checks. Others would need to get there on their own.
Even for this purpose Omar has to call coyote.
Stalker, Omar here, I need to cross CAS.
As he leaves the safehouse, with Mouse on back seat, D1 in the trunk, Dalmatian`s engines kicks in and vector thrusted drone climbs to higher altitude. Long time ago Omar learned, that aerial drones and from time to time even attack teams reaches combat zone hidden in the radar shadow of civilian or cargo commuters. Sometimes he even had to ground them. Using his mapsoft Omar identifies proper corridor and sets command to maintain flight level and wait for good oportunity.

Loyalty test on Stalker -> 2d6.hits(5)=1
all right I've fudged a little. See? I like you ;)

Hoi, working early today? All right, I'am having my own job today so you can come along.

On the way to the meeting spot with Stalker Omar passed by the Pueblo border check. Morning rush didn't started yet. You could see that car in the queue are all requested to pull to the side. Platoon of PuebSec and ZDF soldiers emerged from the security bootch. The stationary gun turrets (both land and aerial) are manned and alert. PuebSec officer seconded by a ZDFofficer closed in. The guns are pointed while the police checks the documents, the car is requested to open the trunk, and all that was there was taken out and inspected. Your rover have moved away but you left Dalmatian to watch the scene, and stopped the flight over the border, before those anti-air guns could have locked on.  You observed as the car was checked again with some kind of equipment. Entire procedure has taking over 10 minutes. If they're going to keep up the routine during morning rush, lots of people is going to be late for work.

Stalker however taken you safely via his underground tunnels (for a standard 400 nuyen fee).

Quote from: ooc
I assume you've decided to pull down the drone and take it with yourself. To release afterwards again.

In the faint morning gloom, you gathered remaining team members and made your way through the streets toward Englewood.
The neighborhood seems deserted. No cars on the wet streets, no one on the sidewalks. The only activity you spot is a lonely dog, sniffing a trashcan. Dense fog lies low, making the Denver skyline invisible as the glow of sunlight rises in the east.

The close surroudings of the destination area were off-limits. That is there were barriers blocking street a block away, fences, several corporate security guards lightly armed and armored. The entire area is clearly marked with Wuxing Corporation property signs. Still you're allowed in no questions asked. Once inside you notice lots of construction equipment in place.

Shortly after the appointed time, a black (a little dusted) SUV pulls up. Two large Orks dressed in suits and holding SMGs – one male, one female - step out of the front seats.

Quote from: ooc
Radar sight reveal that bodyguards, are having armor under their suits or at least dermal implants, they also have laced bones and probably wired reflexes and data jacks. They do have commlinks, but thats all of the nodes, that are visible  to Mouse and Omar scanning. There is also a node for the SUV it is open and broadcasting registration information (Wuxing property). As a standard measure it is coated in radar-absorbant. On a greater range there are nodes of the construction vehicles, small drones and lots of commlinks nodes from the workers, guards and citizens around. Astral sight tells you they are not awakened, confident and suspicious. The male keeps clear line on Lips, the woman on Sam.

They assess the situation, then take defensive positions at the corners of the car. Slowly, the backdoor of the vehicle opens and a slim man, dressed in a gray coverall walks up to you. He carries pink construction helmet under his arm. Dark rings surround his eyes. His gaze is cool but friendly.
Standing within arms reach, he speaks with a deep and rasping voice. Welcome. My name is Robert Johnson. You may call me Bob. I assume you got the preliminary info. It's a rescue expedition. You see that building? He points to the ruins of a two stories building to the east. You need to go there and below and find our men.

Quote from: ooc
Radar sight reveal, that Johnson is having cerebral insight, he is also having cyber arm and a data jack. He does not have any weapon, though his suit is reinforced in nonstandard way (mostly back side). He also does have a commlink and it's encrypted. Astral sight reveal, that he is worn out. You've seen such men in corporation. Manager under lot of stress that has to deal with some unforeseen problem, tackling it on its own to prove his usefulness before any sign of his problems reach his superiors. Your diagnosis is that if he doesn't slow down, his problems with heart or stomach will aggresively increase or show up any moment if they didn't appear by now.

Quote from: ooc
An astral scope of the runner team reveal to Lips that three of the runners are modified, the last one that isn't is a boy no trace of cyber in him. None of them are awakened. Their aura vary. An elf, isn't having aura of a typical metahuman, 'changed' or 'multiple personalities squized into single frame'  would be perhaps the best description. Confidence, pride are most dominant virtues. The driver is going on the last drops of the soul energy, more a machine than a men his soul torned between hatred, revenge and fury with some almost nonexistant sparks of compulsion and kindness). A human under layers of armor, cyberware is worn out to the point of sleeping awake, with a lot of yellow and green threads in the aura, that were responsible for ideals, passion. The boy is a mixture of surprisingly mature and cunning feelings.

On the other side, radar sight reveal to you that you new mage isn't sporting any cyber but he does have a gun and commlink. Fast matrix analysis tells you he is also having wifi enabled glasses and earbuds. The link is by the responses and AR sculpture is a off-the shelf unencrypted  Emperor riding on Ichi.
Sorry for a small delay ;)

Before leaving the appartment, Fractal changes the display in one of the wallscreen to remember Inkling that he will need to feed the cat... again, and that he does not know when he will come back home. Fractal knows the tattooist is already aware of his "job time schedule", but Fractal never forgets to remember.

When Fractal entered the Rover, he apologized: "I know it's near, but it's better for us to arrive together, ok?"

Arriving at the place, Fractal strecthes while observing the surroundings. So today we are working for a Corp, and there's a new addition to the team. Interesting. What he does not like is that entering in a closed unknow space to rescue someone...

" 'Morning, Bob. What kind of thing is keeping your men down there that your other men - with his head the elf points the armed orks and the other workers - can't take them back? What's waiting for us there?"

Lips stands near the meeting point when a van stop near him. Correct time and place, either a construction team or my new colleagues. After a astral look of those four, Lips assumes the latter. 'Shadows running', comes in his mind for at least half of them.

Lips, leaning on his cane, nods to those four, as they walk towords him: "Gentelmen." But before Lips can introduce himself any further, the Johnson arrives and Lips assumes the introduction will take place after the business talk.

When Johnson pointed to the building, Lips eyes move to the ground, speaking almost to himself: I hope they have already installed the basement stairs.

" 'Morning, Bob. What kind of thing is keeping your men down there that your other men - with his head the elf points the armed orks and the other workers - can't take them back? What's waiting for us there?"
They went down, and are missing. There are critters, blood stains, traces of magical activity, nothing active but still.... We lost radio contact yesterday evening around 9 pm. They should be back hours ago, so I think they got into trouble. If they just camped below and are sleeping now, that's good, just bring them up, I'll get your payment from their salary. If not ... I'd rather not think about it, just bring them up all right?

Omar would wait until Fractals question is answered, then he asks his own:
Entry nad exit points? I bet you have a structural map of the building. I`d like to download it.

The building plans are unimportant. Come you can take a look. He leads you while talking. The orcs make alarmed movement, surprised by a VIP that is so much unaware of security procedures. They flank you trying to have eyes on the prime possible targets, Johnson, possible other dangers and cursing (judging by the short encrypted transmission between their comms). Here, watch your heads and what you're stepping on. He leads you toward a hole in the bottom of what looked like a basement, but what probably have been street level few dozens years ago before the building had it covered. The hole looks like any other hole, it's dark, leading down, five meters wide.

You see, it's a site for our new building. We started deconstruction of the old ones and excavation for the foundation when we found this. This is a drainage pipe. We needed to know if it's usable, so we arranged a team to check it out.

For the Omar's deductive mind, backed up by the smuggling experience and talks with his new acquaintance the case is simple. You are in the former Aztlan sector territory. The urban legends of Aztlan tunnels going beneath the city aren't just rumors, heck you just drove out of one of them. If the tunnels below are connected with the network Stalker explored, than this might be turned into secure escape route from the building, profitable smuggling route between CAS and Pueblo or a safe route to transfer goods and people between buildings in those sectors, without being bothered by those pesky border checks.. This is also the explanation of runner usage. Both LoneStar and PuebSec would give much to explore and then collapse it.

... they went in, and shortly after we lost contact. Bob continued, kicking a stone into the hole. So.. will you bring them back? I was talking with your fixer about the rates. She said that it depends, but that 30 thousands is your going rate and I am prepared for that amount.
Sorry for a small delay ;)

While the Johnson guides Omar in a visit through the construction camp, Fractal keeps alert to the newcomer. You never know, and it's better to be safe than sound.

Now, Bob's mention of critters, blood stains and traces of magical activities... That's not good, not good at all. As he watches the place, he streams a message to Mouse: @Mouse: Kid, can you look into the 'trix for old city plans from this part of the city? Even old rumors may do.

Then the call to work was made. Thirty thousands - a good sum, but can you grow if you keep the same standards?

"Excuse me, Bob; I see you did your research on us, but let me correct a little detail on your sum. Don't get me wrong, that's really our going rate, but this job is not one of the usual ones. You are sending us to something you don't know yet what may be, and we can't make any research on it before going in. I believe a risk premium is due to even the deal."

Fuck. At least I had a good breakfast.
Saying this, Omar turns back to Rover. With his first steps back, back doors opened and Dobermann jumped out, stretching its legs, testing its sensors in the light of birth of a new day. From the very moment Omar wokes up, he had a bad feeling...like someone stepping on his grave. Now...that feeling just becomes reality.
Dalmatian drone climbs down from its tsnadard 200 meters flight level and dives into the big hole, scanning surrounding, sending stream from its sensors. Team members have opened access to it, and they may be surprised by considerable change in quality of video.
There is a lot of utility drones around, and Omar runs analyze to get list of types used on the construction type. Agent searches actual online catalogs, assigning every type its characteristics. Omar is looking for something equiped with drill or claws, even possibly autogen torch etc.

Fractal, please as a part of the deal, ask him if we can get one of those construction drones around here, in case there is cave in, we may need some tools to get our job done.

@Omar: "So ka, buddy."

The elf had just finished his last sentence, when a sudden realization seems to cross his mind, and he adds: "Oh, and Mr. Bob, it would be in your best interest to provide us with one of your construction drones. Your workers are in old tunnels below street level, and who knows from under what shall we need to take them?"

Lips looks down the big hole. 'Sewers, perfect. Floaded sewers, make my day.' Lips scan the near walls of the hole and the area around it for a way down, stairs preferably.

"I might add, it would be a nice gesture, if we could at least borrow a small crane or something similar to get us down there and too get your people back to the light, ... or what's left of them.
