Well in the PbP area I might be joining a game in London, so I made a rigger that really likes Steampunk. I might want to switch things around anybody see something to change?

So name him Clockwerk instead.
That was a bit of a smartass comment, I know - sorry. :p

Coming back to SR after a looong absence, and still catching up on reading.  Seems to me, though, that the character is in danger of being too spread out - aircraft, anthroform, and ground?  May drop one of the piloting, and locksmith, and use the points for negotiation/etiquette, mechanics, or buying additional contacts (perhaps others in the steampunk culture?).  And if the character is into steampunk, perhaps have some sort of knowledge skills re steampunk culture or tinkering; perhaps Rube Goldberg mechanics. :)

Also, from a narrative perspective, is Low lifestyle sufficient to provide a secure garage/workshop space?  Need somewhere to stash the workshop and van, after all...

Could actually be a fun running gag, both claiming the other stole their name, or both claiming the other guy's "misspelling MY name!"

Your attributes are kind of average. Softcap the important ones and maybe get a little more Edge.

How often will you encounter mechanical locks? I think these 8 BP are spend better elsewhere (and just use your autopicker). Generally you should have your skills (and skill groups) at 1, 4 or 6 for karma efficiency. You have spend a lot of BP on piloting. I would just have Anthroform and Pilot Aircraft on 1 because you can’t default on those and the primarily use AR and Command to control your different vehicles.
You have spend 80 BP on skill groups. That is a lot. Granted you get a lot of skills but do you really need them all? You could save some BP here to.

I would spend a little more points on contacts. The rating for your fixer is really low, and you should maybe know a guy or two more.

You have no positive qualities? I think there are some nifty mechanical ones in Runner’s Companion (example Jurryrigging) and Codeslinger (Command) would be good for you.

Personally I think cybereyes (and ears) are a waste of essence and nuyen. Sure they are cool but you can get most of the same things in normal gear ad save both money and essence. I would Command my vehicles so a Control Rig isn’t that great on the other hand it isn’t that expensive so… I would go for a single cyberarm of awesomeness to give better stats and then use some of the capacity for armor and some for the gadgets instead of having them installed and costing essence (commlink, datajack, tool hand etc.).

You could do better with armor. With Form Fitting you should be able to reach 9/7 with body 3. Armor keeps you alive. Get a armor on top of the FFBA and then fill out with SecureTech stuff.

I would modify my weapons some more.

Do you have unwired? You could modify your commlink and programs to get more power out of them. Command (Optimized) 6 and get ergonomic for your most important programs like ECCM. And get Exploit (Mute) so you also can hack. A very cheap thing to give an extra area of expertise.

Why have both lockpicks and a autopicker? You need some more electronic B&E tools so you can beat maglocks. A jammer would be good to have and if you need signal strength Satellite link.

I’m not a drone expert so somebody else will have to chip in here 

As I've said elsewhere, for pilots who can pilot , get Skillwires 3, get every piloting Skillsoft, and you're rolling 9 dice before AGI-boosting drugs, or the VR/rigging bonuses.

Except Pilot is a Reaction skill.

Like they've said: jumping in isn't 100% necessary.  I'd personally consider a technorigger, and save a lot of nuyen on programs (for me -- still need them for the equipment) & headware that can be used on drones & features.  They decided to go with the Texas campaign, and I'm not in the running there -- but I'm still considering rolling up a technorigger (to have in reserve) and this thread is helpful.

Also, remember that you can have Empathy Software, and even a TacNet, as a Complex Form. Cheesy as hell, but there ya go. ;D

Makes me want to roll up a Dryad Technoshaman Hacker/Rigger/Face type just to see how bad it can get.

Riggers are a very very very dependent on campaign style character type. In SR4 they've made them a bit more capable in the meat world (Command Rigging and better Piloting rigging), but you should really be focusing much more on your drones than yourself. I don't really care for how they've changed rigging in SR4, but I feel like it's still best to stay out of the fight zone in your vehicle 99.9% of the time. I'd drop most of your combat augs (Reaction Enhancers, Muscle Toner) and your cybereye and focus on increasing your drone sensors. I'd do the same with your Automatics and Athletics skills. Drop them down to a one and maybe specialize in a particular type of automatic. I'd really recommend a shotgun and buying some AP Flechettes of it after the game starts. 9P -1 is devastating to whatever asshole tries to crawl inside your van with you, If you really want to go big grab an elephant gun and get the same rounds 11 or 12P with a -1 AP = 1 dead goon. Roll whatever points you safe into your Electronic Warfare skill. That said, being able to hack is also a good choice for riggers too. Pirate you autosofts and profit.

A rating 4 ultrawideband radar sensor can do wonders for what you can perceive (let's you see through most walls with the thing) and with the right mod can fit in an iball with other sensors to boot for example. If you can afford it, a TacSoft can also work wonders for your drones if you pull in enough senses through their sensors for them. Especially if you add team members to it as well.

Likewise don't forget smartlinks on your combat drones. Every little bonus helps. With enough drones you can run a centralized TacNet by yourself fairly easily. Assuming you're using a Military drone, you can get Pilot 5 + Autosoft Targetting 4 + Smartlink 2 + TacNet 4 for a total of 15 dice to shoot things on its own. Considering how many combat drones yo ucan get out there, that's pretty damn good.

Other bits of note: Gecko Tips work wonders for a lot of vehicles (iBalls and Dobermans rock with them).

Remember, you never use reaction for actually piloting the vehicle unless you're doing so manually, so it doesn't have to be extremely high.

I don't know if it is still in SR4, but in earlier editions there was a gene therapy treatment that could make you immune to one chemical or disease.  If you chose Neurostun immunity and then just kept your van flooded with the stuff, that would make for an interesting first date.

The skills are the funny part, I only altered it a bit by taking Mechanic skill group other than that the skills are all from the SR4 Drone Rigger, so what to do?

The archtypes in the book are not especially well made.
Try to look at some of Umaro IV's archtypes instead. There is a world in difference and they are made with the same number of points.
