Additional Power Points upon Initiation (at least for unaugmented Adepts) significantly increases their power.
As does the Adept Power in Critias unofficial Way of the Adept Errata.
The is though, that it costs adepts 20 BP (or 40 Karma) to "compete" with Street Sams and that all in all it still favors augmented Adepts.

From my experience adept geasa work best when they are not maintained easily, but it's still possible or at least somewhat predictable to do so.
Geas should be geas after all.
I remember playing with a GM once, who really rubbed his players noses in their handicaps. One of us way playing an adept who had a fasting geas on one of his abilities.
But strangely enough the GM was somehow satisfied with the geas itself and didn't hassle said player at all.
I think it was because the geas had a noticeable drawback right from the start.
Anyway, these types of geas work best so far and draw the least GM aggression, at least from my experience.
