Initiation to gain metamagic, for a start. With a magical group and ordeal you can do that a lot. Increases to Magic stat, if you're willing to pay the steep cost. Bonding foci or quickened spells (Improved Reflexes being a favorite choice). More spells.

Other than that it kind of depends on the character. Are there important skills you want to increase even further? Additional skills that you wound up passing on at chargen but that would be relatively cheap to get now? Attributes that you want to make better, either because they're faily low (and thus cheap) or because they're very important and worth the cost? New positive qualities that you want or negative qualities that you want to be rid of? We can't really give more specific advice without knowing more.

That's actually coming out of the original CGen budget, since the Bonding Cost is so obscene when done with XP.

Yeah, can't argue with you there. In a choice between 8 Karma or 1 BP per Force, I'd go with BP.

Other, less expensive foci might be bought with Karma, however. Like Sustaining Foci. Every mage needs one of those, right?

How's Nordic tradition stack up, or is there another one with a better selection of spirits?

Tradition depends on Mentor. If you went with Raven, Norse is an OK tradition. Probably not the absolute best tradition, though, but the ones that are probably better are Shinto, Christian Theury, and Path of the Wheel (depending on whether you want Man or Guidance more for utility).

Karma? Initiation and more magic. Bonding foci is in theory good...but you're still limited by chargen availability, so I wouldn't.
