Hello!

I'm new to this forum and relatively new to Shadowrun. I've been playing for about two and a half months. However, my group moves VERY slowly (mostly because of communication issues) and we have been known to take 6 weeks to get through a simple run. So really... I've only completed two runs.

Anyways...

I have a character fully fleshed out... I'm just deciding on backstory at the moment. My character is an elven homicidal sociopathic gunslinger adept. I also envision her being young. Now I'm reading through the books and I know that elves age slower than humans. I understand that there hasn't been a single elf that has died of old age and that an elf who is 60 is basically in the same shape as a 25-30-year-old. But my question is... what about when they're young? If my character is in her early twenties, could she expect to be in the same physical shape as a child, teenager, or young adult? What age would my character have to be to appear significantly younger than the other runners?

Getting that part out of the way, I would imagine that you could work it with the GM to have -/+ 0 BP Quality- Appears Childlike, and then you could have what you are looking for, regardless of actual age.  I actually have some familiarity with this as I had a player that wanted to play a Hacker/Street Sam  (this was 2nd edition) that actually was a kid, as in 12 year old human.  It really is a double edged sword as far as advantages and disadvantages go, basically you would standout like a sore thumb in ANY adult setting (anywhere at night, most places runner do business), but you could also blend very well, and help the team blend, when you are trying to be inconspicuous in a family setting, like a park or a suburban neighborhood.

Elves age at about the same rate as humans until they hit their mid-twenties or so, when they kind of "freeze," and stay looking (and feeling) that young for quite some time.  So playing an elven character right around that age, you're in the clear.  Physically, they're about as mature as their stated age, by that point.  No need to mess around with stuff, on that front.

Elves mture at normal Human speed, until they're around 20-ish.  Then they slow way down, until they hit the upper end of their life expectancy, and go downhill all of a sudden.

Strangely, it's not always right on the early 20s either. Ehran the Scribe is described as appearing to be at least mid-30s, though that may be a case of "it's not the years, it's the mileage."

Ehran the Scribe is a contemporary of Harlequin.  Meaning, he was born during the fourth world ... and is therefor at least half a dozen millenia old.  So if he looks thirty-ish?  That's damned spry for his age.

M-hmm.  And he may be older than most of the other IEs.  Possibly, by a thousand years or so.
