Elves? Elves get all the good press.

Orks? Orks have street cred and Tuskability.

Trolls? Dude, Trolls crush things with their bare hands.

And then there're Dwarves.

Or are there?

Easily th emost rarely-played Metatype that I'm familiar with, in decades of play, the number of Dwarves I've seen used can be counted on one hand, with fingers left over. Now, this isn't always the case, and I'm sure that there are some great halfers out there, but, I'm curious to see what you've seen that I haven't.

Give me your Dwarf stories, gang. The mercs, the deckers, the riggers ... so very, very many riggers ... and let fly the tales.

You're a statistical anomaly, in my experience. There has never, in 23 years, been a game I was involved in where there wasn't at least one dwarf in the PC mix.

One guy read through the races, did the math, and looked me in the eye to say, "Dwarfs are the master race." That's ALL he's ever played in SR that I'm aware of.

Huh. Glad to be in the minority, then. :)

Don't suppose you recall any of 'em offhand, good sir?

In one of the best and longest campaigns (5 yrs every weekend) I got to play a pair of Dwarf brothers. (Livewire and ChromeMonger) One a street Sam the other a sorcerer adept. Switching out through out the campaign I would play which ever one the story called for.
Even ran them simultaneously in the Arcology Shut down, when they had to go inside to try and find their Mother and sister that where trapped, while Christmas shopping,  when it closed.
Those two gave me some of the best emotional RP'ing I've had in SR, and some of the best comedic moments.

Never a dwarf rigger tho......

In fact I think the only race I haven't played is an elf........... well besides all the crazy meta-variants. To be fair though I've run some variants too, just not all of them.

There is only a hand full of reasons why i do not play dorfs.
The small gags, little jokes, short plays on words, miniscule mean stuff said to, or rather, over them.
See? There are FOUR horrible size related puns in that one sentence alone.
And i am only one Troll! I play with several people who are almost as bad as i am with these things.
I could not get through that even one evening . .
Otherwise?
Yes, Dorfs are the Masterrace and i would only play them exclusively. Right now, i usually play Trolls.

My favorite is Timothy O'Toole, recently divorced dwarf mage on the run from his ex-wife's divorce lawyer. Who, it turns out, was a vampire. It got to be really interesting sometimes.

Just had our Dwarf Combat Mage survive "The strongest thing you have!" at a bar in the worst part of the Z-Zone Barrens.

It was a very close thing, however.  Were he a Ork or Troll, he'd have died.

My understanding is that in previous editions, Dwarves were really good. In SR4 they are not very good and have a kinda narrow niche.

Gnomes, however, are both awesome and hilarious. Fun fact: gnomes are four times as dense as humans!

It was blue, smelled worst than the ghouls we just shot our way through to get to the bar, and killed the guy that made it before he gave it a name.

My Russian Troll Heavy Weapons Decker was happy with a jug of Vodka.

Oh, the real stuff then Stahl!  My Father had connections to get it in Canada (Back when he was alive, that is), as the stuff you get at the Liquor Stores is a pale imitation here in North America.

Had a player who played a dwarf character.

Physical Adept celtic berzerker.

Went on missions in only blue body paint.

Can't remember his handle, simply cause the other players called him 'stubby' all the time.
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

Remember: You can't fix Stupid. But you can beat on it with a 2x4 until it smartens up! Or dies.

Dwarves suck in SR4 - who would call them the master race? Orks are obviously the statistical master race. Dwarves get screwed. 25 points and 4 points of stats, mostly and then a movement penalty. A race that gets a good melee strength and then cant effectively charge or flee? Ridiculous

Which is, of course, exactly why my favorite character - Solomon - was a Gnome physical adept boxer. Exclusively dated Ork women. He didn't like the idea of commitment so a woman who would live to be like 35 tops was perfect for him.
