>>>>>[OK folks, tracking a bit better now that they got the painkillers and neural stabilizers set up a bit more.  Glad I wrote that program that hides my posts to places like this in various types of line noise.  Thanks for the well-wishes, still feel like a troll sumo wrestling tournament is going on in my skull, however.  Also starting to get some memories back, cyberoptic pics and cyberaudio recordings help.  A little upset that the doctor here removed the chip of my wife's skull from my brain, but apparently there was some irritation starting at last, not a good thing on such a sensitive part of the body.

Aw drek, here comes the local man-in-black that doesn't have a name.  Talk to you folks later.]<<<<<  >>>User:  Money Johnson has disconnected at source<<<

>>>>>[Glad to hear it, Murphy. Meet me at the cab stand outside Sea-Tac at 13:30, our flight doesn't leave until 14:20, but you want to allow plenty of time for airport security. I wouldn't drive your own vehicle here. Long term parking at the airport is a good way to not have a vehicle when you get back, or for someone to use it to dispose of some incriminating evidence. You do NOT want to get back to your car after a week out of sprawl and find twenty keys of tempo in the trunk, just as the Knights get a 'hot tip' about a drug smuggler leaving the airport.

And yeah, Card, Predator, that's the idea. You build a network of people you can call on when you need a hand. Some people work solo their whole careers. Nothing wrong with that, but there are some jobs you need help with. So you look for people who compliment your skills. A spellslinger like myself can always use a hacker friend, just like the hacker may not be the best equipped to deal with angry spirits. The street samurai may look for someone to negotiate for them, since 'sword to the head' tends to make for bad negotiating, in most circumstances. You build a network, and you increase your options. Something any smart runner should do. In turn, you're part of their network, and if they need a hand, they can call you, and you get more work.

Money, if they haven't gotten rid of the piece, just ask them to hold on to it if you want it preserved. Could even get it made into an amulet, if you wanted to keep it with you.]<<<<<

I don't think he's noticed that the passenger behind us is a ghoul in disguise, though it is a pretty convincing disguise.

Oh, and Smiley, who said I was paying with MY nuyen? If I was going to take a trip on my own dime, it wouldn't be to Denver. Lots of places I'd rather go for fun.

Predator, I'll keep it in mind, next time I'm on the job.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Mmm...why see them as competition? We all have our own skillsets. A mage helping a non-awakened runner isn't going to create competition in the future. I guess Ice and I are just less concerned about that because we have alternative incomes. In the mean time, it's helpful for us to have as many contacts as possible, and keeping them around by helping them survive ensures we'll have a known quantity - emphasis on known - when and if we need it. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. And like Ice said, we then also form part of their network, meaning we get called on in turn. It's mutually beneficial if you take the long view. And we elves more or less have to, because if we don't, we'll end up having to live in our own drek.

Safe trip, Ice, Murphy. Oh, and Ice...Cuidado con lo que deseas, es posible que sólo lo entiendo.  ]<<<<<

>>>>>[Sad but true. Unless the dangerous nature of the Sixth World catches up to us, we'll have plenty of time to live with a rotten rep, if we earn one, so it is in our interests to pay more attention to image than others may have to. It is also one reason why I know plenty of elves who don't like to make ties with non-elves. The fact that, if you get close, you will have to watch not just your friend, but their children's children's children grow old and die before you are even in middle age is a burden that shorter-lived metatypes do not understand.

Still, there are those who surprise you, and show talent and ability more than most. They are worth keeping close, especially if the next generation shows promise as well.

And Madre? Peligro que hace la vida más dulce. La vida sería aburrida sin riesgo.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Mmm...oh, it's good to see the old language spoken. Well done, Ice. Knowsoft? Or can you actually speak it? Vamos a ver si usted todavía piensa más tarde. Paciencia. Se podría dar sus frutos. O puede que no.

Exactly. That's why we play as straight as we can. Money's seen the benefit of the strategy...and suffered its pains. I doubt even we really understand. It's something that we first-gen elves are only starting to encounter now.

Talent and ability...that's why I offered Big Murph Leonization at my own expense. Not only was he good himself, as a person and runner, he had the ability to pass that on, giving us longer-lived types some continuity.  ]<<<<<

>>>>>[Linguasoft, yes. Sperethiel is my native tongue, though I also know English and Japanese. Along the way, I've picked up linguasofts for Spanish, Cantonese, French, and Yoruba (I was on a trip to Lagos). Whether you're globetrotting or just entertaining close to home, it helps to speak the language. Those online translation services are too slow for real conversation.

And of course, I wouldn't want to rush you.]<<<<<

Mmm...interesting place, Africa. I've never been there myself, but I've run with one. A Zulu, I believe. His daughter Ingwe is  now also 'running the shadows in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

Mmm...and thank you. These things have their own pace. ]<<<<<

>>>>>[Well, it helps to know what people are saying when they think you can't understand them. Much as it pains me to say it, I've actually considered picking up an or'zet linguasoft, especially with the ORC making their big push this year. Lot of biz in that.

I'll admit that before the Crash, I wasn't exactly on speaking terms with any non-elves. The only time I ever saw any was when I was slumming in Cara'sir, or travelling. Let me tell you, it was a strange experience that time I accompanied a trade delegation to Neo-Tokyo. This was before the new Emperor's reforms, afterall, so things were, needless to say, uneasy.

Africa is one big, festering hellhole south of the Sahara. Only reason you should ever go there is because you either are getting paid insanely well, or have absolutely no choice. There is a damn good reason why people have been fleeing the continent since before the Awakening. And it is STILL a better place to live than Tenochtitlan.]<<<<<
