>>>>>[Right. When an ork starts agreeing with Humanis, you know he's had too much to drink.

Murphy, you used to live in Redmond, right? At the very least take this as a chance to move up to Puyallup or the Underground. At least there you're not as likely to get knifed walking home from the store. Sure, there are other issues, but they're not the little slice of hell that Redmond is. And use the rest to upgrade your gear, and dive head first into the shadows. Guns, ammo, armor, ware, if you can afford it. Just don't do anything stupid and get in debt to one of the syndicates to get it.

Card, everyone should know at least the basics of hand to hand, but yeah, I use a focus when I'm working. The tradition I'm teaching him is about blade as an extension of the arm, magic as an extension of the will. Also, there is something about a gun or a blade that deters some of the violence that would be coming your way. They see the threat, and the riffraff know you're dangerous. Unless you're a troll, being unarmed just doesn't convey that same threat. But teaching some of the other things, like how to speed his reflexes and things, will make it easier on Wulfgar when he gets hold of him.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Speaking of foci...Ice, I've got something I want your opinion on. As a Swordmage, I think you're most qualified to assess its utility. It's a stacked weapons and centering focus I've forged in the shape of a sword. The blade is double-edged, with the two edges each of a different alloy, one silver-coloured, the other looks dusted gold - and infused with orichalcum to make it easier to enchant. I started doing this project more as an artistic challenge to myself to see if I could actually make a focus like that but, after learning about the Swordmages, I think there might be a market for a weapon like this. Although it will be dreadfully expensive. It certainly was to make.

Mmm...I know elves like that too. Elves from the elves to the elves. those of us who had human parents have a very hard time understanding it.

This is absolutely the last time I agree to be a stand-in singer. I had to learn sixteen songs in a day! And it's not even in my preferred genre. I'm exhausted. But...at the same time, exhilerated. There's a different kind of energy performing old-fashioned rock than jazz isn't there? Very different kind of response from the audience too. They drain you...but at the same time reflect back so much...

Sleep...I need sleep... ]<<<<<

>>>>>[That... that sounds like a thing of beauty, Madre. Clearly best for an initiate of some grade, but yes, any swordmage would be honored to have such a blade. The silver edge is especially useful, since there are a lot of creatures who have an allergy to silver. The blade sounds like a masterwork, Madre. I can safely say that my blades cannot hold a candle to a creation like that.

Unlike other traditions, you won't find much in the way of trappings for a swordmage's work. With the exception of certain fetishes, and foci, our blades are the only things that speak about our work. They are likely to be intricately made, often enchanted, and usually unique creations. My blades are like no other I've seen, and I've named each one. I know, a bit of a romantic touch, but it seemed right. A thing of beauty and power should have a name to match, I think.

Rock and jazz are certainly different styles. And you're right about the energy of the crowd. I'm no singer, but who hasn't had a job that started out from Underworld 93 or Club Penumbra? Though it makes me wonder about the possibility of a music-based tradition. Glad you're still singing, my dear.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Mmm...thank you, kind sir. I'm glad you approve. This kind of custom work is what I'd like to specialise in. Mmm...and I can certainly understand the romanticism of naming blades. It's something we Spaniards know something about, whether noble-born or from the meanest gutters. Anyway...if you know of someone who can use a blade like this, let him know, would you? If I can't find a good home for it, I'll have to melt it down and reuse the materials.

As for the singing...well, I discovered that I do enjoy it. I sing semi-regularly at various music clubs. Jazz primarily, but after last night, I think I'll branch out a bit. ]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Now now, Ice. It's not like it was custom made for anyone specific. It was just a personal challenge to see if I could do it. Mind you...I don't make wall ornaments. The foci I make are meant to be used, and I think you'll find the weapon is well balanced and robust. Artistic pride, you understand. *smile*

As for the price...it's likely to turn your hair white. I did some calculations on how much I put in. It all comes to about Y175,000. ]<<<<<

>>>>>[I'm going to be honest. If a cybered up ork or troll wants your money, a heavy pistol on your hip isn't going to deter them. It'll pink off, they'll laugh, then you'll get a concussion or shot anyways.

My philosphy is "Be the smallest target possible," meaning, don't give them reasons to WANT to hijack me. A: I have no pistol, meaning whatever I'm carrying likely isn't going to bring all that much on any market, and it's not likely to be anything they want to slot. B: I deliver on motorcycle, instead of a nice protective car, practically screaming "This package is likely not worth the time."

Doesn't always work, but being unarmed and on a supposedly drek bike (Thank you camo) usually lets the one or two desperate enough to try get close enough for a taser to the skull. Besides, I tried using guns, even with stick and shock: My aim, is horrendous. and I don't personally have time most weeks to hit the firing range to actually obtain any skill, between Triad work, real work, and sharpening my adept skills.

But yeah, I can teach him how to enhance his reflexes, and how to compartment his mind to handle multiple input, like driving at nearly a hundred while talking on here, or noticing small details while in a fight.]<<<<<

Seriously, though, don't melt it down. I'll find someone who can use it, and pay for it, even if I have to hunt for telesma to sell in trade. Don't know what various telesma are worth, though. What would it take to round up enough telesma to pay that off?]<<<<<
