>>>>>[Which reminds me. I managed to get Mother to write me a version of that spell. Instead of stone, you get unmelting ice sculptures. Stone is nice, but there is an aesthetic that comes from unmelting ice constantly shedding a fine mist that you don't get with conventional sculpture. Of course, it's been a while since anyone's tried to kill me, so I haven't had anyone to test it on.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Mmm...I remember you mentioned wanting to do something like that. I'd use that as a combat spell, personally. Turn an enemy to ice, then shatter him with the bat'leth. As an intimidation tactic, I love it.

I must say...I agree that such an ice sculpture would have a certain aesthetic appeal. But not on an enemy. It smacks of gloating. I find it very, very unsettling. ]<<<<<

>>>>>[All depends on how you look at it, I guess. I don't see it as gloating so much as a very visible warning. Like putting someone's head on a pike, it is a message to your enemies about the consequences of moving against you. Except the ice sculpture doesn't have the smell and the problems with flies you have with displaying dead bodies. But I could see how it could be taken as gloating.

As for using it in combat, there are a couple of problems, due to the limitations of the spell. Like most permanent spells, you have to keep concentrating on it for a time for it to firmly set in place. And the ice is enhanced by the magic, making it harder to damage than regular ice. And the drain is fairly severe. If you were going for sheer intimidation value, a flame aura spell would be far more effective.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Just make sure you know your mark, first. Some people are crazy enough to call your bluff. And make sure their kids and loved ones aren't nearby when you try such things. People can get stupid when you threaten their family, to the point where a wageslave without an ounce of combat training will take on a full grown troll in heavy armor and armed with the best of things that make people bleed, with nothing but their bare hands. Even if they are normally the kind of person who will wilt if you look at them in a threatening manner.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Hehe. I would also say it only works as art when the person thus frozen over is something for the eye. Ugly art is not something I enjoy, no matter how effective it may be otherwise.

Like Miri said, that's a dangerous tactic to use, Morg. Don't try that on someone who has nothing to lose, or who are mentally wired to be slightly crazy. There are people who lose all fear of death when threatened. I'm one of them. Trying to bluff people like us is very likely to get you killed.

I remember one time a desperate Azzie suit tried to take a teammate of mine hostage. He put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her if I didn't let him go. Something in me just went...cold. I told him, Fine. You do that. The very second you do, I'll be on you, and I'll make your dying last a week. I'm a doctor. I know exactly how to keep you alive, awake and very much aware the entire time.

I would have done it too, and he saw that in the eyes of my other teammates. He turned the gun on himself at that point.  ]<<<<<
