>>>>>[Children, don't fight. Or if you do, at least get on with it, so we don't have to listen to your squabbling.

Anyways, always do your legwork when going to a street doc. Find out which ones are the real deal, and which ones will leave you worse off than if you'd just stayed bleeding in the street. That said, there ARE ghouls and other infected who work as street docs. And ones who work for Tamanous. Personally, I wouldn't go to any of them, but then I can afford better options.

And you should ALWAYS have a buddy watching over you when you go under the knife at the street doc. Doesn't have to be a troll, but that doesn't hurt. Anyone who is well armed and dangerous will do. This goes double if you're out of your usual sprawl, and have to take pot luck.]<<<<<

>>>>>[A good fake (forged actually) SIN and a DocWagon account can be quite useful at certain times, as long as you're able to explain things and the police aren't involved.  As for dealing with Ghouls, I have my own car now, but Uncle Murphy made me take Ghoul Cab when I was starting out to adjust to the variety of life that abounds in the world.  They were pretty OK people, especially if you needed to get rid of a body, and didn't have cab fare.  I've also been attacked and had them try to eat me, but, then again, I had a dwarf try to do that as well.  No, I don't know why the Dwarf had a ork-sized hunger.]<<<<<

Murphy, if you're going under the knife for new ware, follow Wyrm's advice. Get someone to watch. You don't want to find a kink bomb as an extra gift when you get those skillwires after the fact.]<<<<<

>>>>>[The DocWagon Contract, yeah, just for emergencies and "I was mugged" moments, like you suggested Mr. Wyrm.  Uncle Bob watches my family when it comes time for surgeries, for whatever reason, including the work done on my body.  And three of us go with him when he has to go.  The clinic I took Mr. Money to has a very good rep, and he swears by it even without people to watch him.  I think he and the owner go back or something.

Thank you both for your concern.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Yes, little Rakhi, we know you're a mage.  This makes you more vulnerable ... hold on.
              [ BREAK ]
              [ / BREAK ]
I'm told it makes you precisely 173.255% more vulnerable to deep-scan identification, because the techniques used to mask your DNA have a negative -- minute but distinct -- impact upon your mystic abilities.  (It's great having friends with a different knowledge base than you, even if some of them are bloody freaky in their analyses.)
While you aren't going to go under for any reason but healing, and Murphy, this applies to Money as well, all it takes is one -- one -- person to take, type, and/or submit your DNA.  Nobody is perfect when it comes to wiping traces; god knows I've left my share of red and white cells scattered on floors and walls in the past.  Doesn't have to be the boss, or even the doc or a nurse; just someone who makes a mistake and sends your droplet instead of the guy in the bed next to you.
Bring friends to your bedside.  It's easier for them than having to bring flowers to your graveside. ]<<<<<

>>>>>[And just how would YOU know that name, Wyrm?

But really, if we're talking about blood samples left behind, I'm less worried about someone getting my DNA on file than using that sample as a ritual link. And AFIK, the genewiping treatment does nothing to keep the sample from being a link to you.

We've all lost some blood at the scene of a crime. The only reason we aren't dead is because it takes a lot of time and resources to do DNA identification or ritual magic. And because, unless we get stupid, it is usually more profitable for the company to take their anger out on whoever hired us. (Usual exceptions for the big A, of course.) The trick is to not do anything that puts you at the top of their 'to do' list. Unless you have Kane's resources and backing, don't act like Kane. Especially if getting your DNA changed interferes with your abilities.

Myself, I've done runs for nine of the ten megas, and against all ten. But I don't go slaughtering every security guard I see, or piling up the collateral damage. Which means I never cause them a big enough problem that they want to spend the resources to find me. Now, if I ever get caught on a run, that would be bad news, but having my DNA changed wouldn't change that at all. You think DNA is the only way they can get a line on you?]<<<<<

>>>>>[They got to my family, Mr. Money, and a lot of the other runners on that job.  Not all of them, admittedly, so they have some holes in their Intel.  They also got the backtrail that Uncle and Mr. Money used, too, as Mr. Smiley pointed out.  It's certain that anyone can be gotten to.  There's lots of ways to track people when it comes down to it, Uncle taught me how to train and use a hound for tracing people on the run without a vehicle, and I figured out ways to track vehicles in some ways.

There's countermeasures, of course.  Cleaner-Cleaner for DNA, scent bombs for dogs, ruthenium polymers for vehicles...  And counter-counter measures as well.  It's all about how hard you have/want to work at getting things.  And Corporations have profit/loss statements, while 'runners have to work to eat.]<<<<<
