This a character im using as a NPC in one of my games...she is part of a shadowrunner team called "Nightshift" the team started 9 years ago and she was part of it when she was 11 years old. She is the typical shy girl who keeps her head in the trix. Im even rping her with something thats a bit like combat paralysis. In any "flesh" encounter she will waste her first turn packing adn fumbling for her gun and what not..but she had no problem fighting in the matrix. Also note that the fixer in my game was already designated and free wich is why she dosent have one.

Also the way we work for licence is 1 licence for weapons and 1 for wares and not the standard rule or 1 licence for eveything

From looking over the character a few times I am simply left with she must be the type of character you use to help carry the team through the game due to their lack of matrix skills to make sure that they don't have to call it quits due to stuff like a locked door etc.

Gotta say for a character who's ran the shadows for nine years it seems a bit odd to still be taken back by combat in the meat to the point she acts as if she had combat paralysis. I'm guessing you have a more in depth reason that would make sence to it such as their mental conditioning through out life.

Also, her gear shows that of what would be considered a prime runner by certain people unless it's a high power champain. Because her gear ratings falls into military grade gear, which not impossible to get is still very hard and would show of being a very skilled runner and would probably have an expensive price tag to go along with them working with the players. Only time I saw a logical extortion was a A.I. That joined due to old associations with a group member and the characters incredible curiosity mixed with its need to hack and gather as much data as it could on runs to sell as its fee for joining, which it got the only cut of.

Lastly, does she have a home? Otherwise a shy women who has little combat skills is highly likely to have led a very painful life at the hands of people with little to no virtue. Might be something you'd want to consider at least. Again just passing ideas along.

But that is the stuff that just jumps out at me as something you might have been wanting a critic on. Beyond that yeah it's believable character that could easily work it's way into your players hearts, specialy if the shadows have not corrupted her and made her cold like it seems that she still is nice by the fact the character is shy.

And besides all of that she is very well focused to say the least. So over all looks awesome ^^

I tend to uber specializec characters for certain functions like hacking/magic/face ect. Plus when i have a character idea i try to stay away from anything that dosent fit with my "feel" of it aka combat or other things..if i  feel the character background dosent open up certain things..like access to certain piece of gear or will to train in certain area i wont put it in not matter how benificial it would be.

Iv been gming for a lil bit but not that much..gear is always a hiccup for me. In one instance restricted gear does allow you to get better stuff but in another you kinda have to justify how you got it.

I know if had one of my player show me a sheet wich i thought was a Street Samurai cause of the agi 10 reaction 9 and tons of cyberware until i saw Logic 5 and tons of hacking skills..WTH.

So yeah on my part i do think that runner with poor combat skills but awesome techincal ones and vice versa are more common then wed think adn have no qualms about being week in an area

There is a PC "Combat Hacker" in the group.   She was designed to fill several roles such as the Sammy, hacker, B&E, infiltration.

I edited away a lot of my character.   After posting it I remembered that this topic wasn't about my characters but Decade's NPC.

My intention was to show that there was a PC hacker character, not to take away from the OP's creation

Ok back to the topic.  Trying to get dinner and 4 kids ready for bed make for quick updates on the iPod.

Modem is a well designed character for hacking. That being said she could do with a couple implants that would compliment her logic based skills rather well.

Encephalon Rating 1 or 2
Enhanced Protein Exchange, PuSHeD

Both would enhance her logic based skills rather well.

With the background of being a runner for 9 years allows for characters to have branched out to learn/dabble into other roles.

Now thats a meta gaming assumption.
I know plenty of people who do the same job for 25 years in a row who never branch out.

How many gym teacher do you know that also teaches French and Mathematics?

Sure it is.   Then again we're not talking about gym, French or math teachers either.    We're talking about way above average people here in a make believe worlds who deal with life and death when it comes to their jobs.  Why wouldn't they know how to do more than one thing and do them all well.

So why in a game would the player limit themselves to one role?  The game itself makes it easy to make a character who can do more that one thing.  If that part of the game isn't using their very specialized skills the player can and may be bored.  This can even be more so in a pbp game where games move slowly.

My point is everyone sees a way to make a character differently.   Is anyone way correct?  No.  People will want to play/make what they think will be fun.  There are also some that have been playing the game since 1st edition, like I have, and know how to get the most out of the bp they are given with.

"The rules allows it so its legit" I heard that so many times I never been able to get in meta..i try my best to do what i want. Some character concept just dont..."encourage?" i think would be the best word certain character development. Takin an upgrade just cause you can but not giving much thought on the how or why is something i just cant wrap my head around. Worst of all is people calling "making up an excuse" for certain gear or power cause they want there character to be the best as possible but there GM wants a reason. "Making up an excuse" ? really? when people start calling it that its a clear sign your character shouldnt have it.

Thing like where you live..what kind of life and friends your character have make up the if and why you character should have an upgrade..at least thats how i see it. I wouldnt have Modem get some muscler toner, wired reflex, bone lacing, tailored pheromones, a sniper rifle, a grenade launcher as well as some dose of Kamikaze drugs on her just cause it would "make my character better" those upgrade are "completely" in disacord with her personality wich is the girl thats always in the trix scared like hell of the real world and dosent know how to interect with people well so she keeps to herself and only talk to people in the matrix

This is an extreme example but i know people who wouldnt have any qualms about doing it

Ya know, if people are trying to offer you advice on your character (particularly advice that you solicited), you might want to try not calling them out-of-character metagamers. It comes off as a bit rude and ungrateful.

I was rather explain why i didint  pick certain things in reguards of character concept..I dont recall targeting anyone as a OOC meta-gamer rather said that for "my" character those things arent used but i conside that "I" would be a OOC meta-gamer with "that" character.

Now i know its important to listen advice espeically sinced i asked for them I was just trying to explain where i came from on certain decisions
