I was once told about a game system that sort of gave a list, sort of automating things your character does so you don't have to always say it. The format was sort of like this..

If I order food I always swipe my tag eraser over it.
When I go to a meet, I always wear a disguise
IfI am pinned down by superior firepower then I throw a grenade

It was just some if/then, when I/I always statements you fill out. I was wondering what the system was so I can try to convert it over to Shadowrun.

Because, well, its useful!

Don't know of a system like that, but I would recommend GMs sending around that kind of list to their players. Helps people get into character, and also potentially gives the GM hooks to use.

Automatic grenade throwing seems a bit much...
But yeah, other than that, some things like "I put on pants before stepping out my door" and "I reload my weapons first chance I get when combat's finished" should be automatic.

Yeah. I tend to think of it as assuming that the characters are smarter than the players.

By that I mean that someone who actually does this stuff for a living and has lasted long enough to make it to "400 BP" status would remember common sense things, like the Infiltrator checking for alarms on a window or the Magician setting up Counterspelling, even if the players forget to say it.

Well I was just tossing out random if/then when/then I statements, not really listing anything directly from something I was told once about a system I can't even remember.

So yep, the grenade thing, kind of obvious, and kinda off the top of my head.

Its more for things your character would do but you might forget to explicitly say. Like I am forever forgetting, as a player to Analyze Node on a node first. I'm usually so busy trying to remember the steps for Exploit I forget. So its one of those things my character would do automatically but I forget. The character I play would do it out of habit, but I the player would forget my glasses if the world wasn't so fuzzy.

I thought maybe it was a white wolf system but I can't track anything down.

It's a good idea to do this, yeah. With my mage character, I told the GM that any time one of the party members stepped into my field of view (especially out of combat), I automatically started counterspelling them, otherwise I'd have to continually say it.

This REALLY depends to the character in question... One of my players sees logic and intuition as dump stats for most of his Samurai builds (they don't soak damage, don't resist spells, don't help me shoot, don't dodge gunfire) do they are usually 1s... 2s if he somehow has BP left over.

These type of mentally retarded builds, I hit in the junk every time. You want to play your "intelligence" was a dumpstat and make your character barely smarter then a potted plant, I cut you NO slack on the obvious things like reloading after a fight, turning off your commlink before the run, using a tag eraser...

Drives him nuts (but he never learns)
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

Remember: You can't fix Stupid. But you can beat on it with a 2x4 until it smartens up! Or dies.

I think the system is Burning Wheel. The concept of having things that the characters do as a matter of personality and instincts is a really cool thing that stops a lot of having to decide if they actually open every single door with a gun drawn or not. Burning Empires might do the same thing, but I haven't studied up on that version of the Burning system.
