Description
If the words "troll pretty boy" could ever possibly fit together into the same sentence, it would be in reference to this man.  Clean teeth, evenly symmetrical horns that aren't too large, smooth skin, and an Adonis-like body fitness nuts only dream about.  His golden blonde hair is kept long and straight, a veritable mane extending just past his jawline, reflecting the sunlight almost as well as his ice-blue eyes.  Only a few scars here or there mar his otherwise perfect features, but those only do to accentuate a rugged, fearless disposition.  When comfortable, he dresses comfortably, loose jeans and a snug t-shirt donning his frame, a lined trenchcoat covering that for when he goes out.  On the job, though, that changes quickly.  Gearing up, his armored jacket covers what seems to be a sort of BDU outfit, his head covered by a stylised helmet decorated with golden feathers etched on the sides.  His voice rumbles with power, giving off the notion that this man could hurt you...but chooses not to.

bnc
(She always writes her name in minuscules)

My time zone is GMT + 5:45 (Kathmandu)
So, basically it's morning when it's evening in America and vice versa.

Real life

bnc is a 19 year old teenager who has suffered much. And you can tell by her appearance. She usually has hair done in an Iroquese cut or any other socially unaccepted hairdos. Her fiberoptic hair is usually jet black, but very often modified by discreet, but appealing light effects, e.g. a dark blue shade. But every once in a while, she totally freaks out and wears it green or red or white.
But there’s more that reflects her scarred soul. First thing you can tell: She’s thin. No, thin is the wrong word perhaps: anorexic. Her face is gaunt, her skin has an unhealthy teint and her lips are colorless. She’s got no breasts and no ass, but a lot of bones that peek through her pale skin.
She usually wears tattoes on her face and/or her arms. Yeah, usually, because if you get to know her you realize, that they change sometimes. They are a modification based on chameleon skin. She loves Maori animal motives, Chinese dragons, Japanese symbols and gothic images, especially young women crying bloody tears or stuff like that.
Her clothes are usually black and tight, despite her preference for wide coats.

Here's an image, although bnc is a little younger and skinnier:

Standard Persona

bnc’s Persona is bizarre to an almost sickening extent. On the first glance, it appears to be an image of her real look (although the face looks differently as to avoid a connection to her real life person) and without any gloss-over: no tits, the body as skinny as in RL, the face gaunt. She’s usually wearing a not very conspicuous armor vest as well a military green and khaki clothing, a red button hefted to her left breast. But a second glance reveals that this outward appearance is only a shell. On certain spots, where this shell reveals what’s underneath the way sloppily worn clothing reveals skin (hip, wrist, …) you can see the robotic body underneath: rods of steel and chrome, hydraulic systems and cogwheels.

Until now it’s only eccentric, but until now you’ve only seen the body, not the head. Her facial features move a 100 % naturally, when she laughs, speaks, smiles or turns up her nose. But her face is only a mask, its shape like the masks of Greek Tragedy and Comedy. The mask is almost perfectly realistic – save that instead of eyes there are only gaping holes. It is connected to an inexpressive sheet metal head by black cables (a close look reveals type labeling in a white font) in roughly 3“ distance. While the mask moves perfectly like a real mouth when bnc speaks, her real mouth does not: The lower jaw, the only movable part of the head, bobs like a 20th century doll’s mouth. Apart from this, there is no expression save for pinhead-size pupils moving in round and almost perfectly white eyes. Before the right eye, there is a small ring, like one side of a pair of glasses, with a transparent screen displaying illegible and ever-changing information all the time.
A closer look also shows that her shadow has ist own will. Sometimes it goes ahead a few paces and observes the enviroment, smells at the ground like a dog or actually begins to sweep the ground.

Can I determine when the last commlink activity had occured? Since when is the communication dead, that is. Especially interesting: Had there been any communication with Armstrong?

Tell me, if I need some additional operations or rolls for this. I think, the matrix perception test should do, but you're the boss. With 2 marks I have access to all (unprotected) files on the commlink.

I exchange my Stealth program for Babymonitor which will display my Overwatch Score any time. Whatever else I wrote: As soon as I see that my OS higher than 30, I will stop.

If it's not higher than 25 when I checked first, I try again to mark Armstrong's commlink twice:
Hacking on the Fly, 1st mark (http://orokos.com/roll/233162): 19d6t5 6
Hacking on the Fly, 2nd mark (http://orokos.com/roll/233163): 19d6t5 9

I'll extract the call log, if there is one
Edit File (http://orokos.com/roll/233164): 17d6t5 6

The Opposed Test is againt INT + Firewall all three times.

Sorry for overwhelming you. I really am. But if it looks like we're running into a trap, bnc wants to do her homework!

@all
Please don't proceed to the freight yard to soon. We should coordinate and use that info we can gain. In 5 minutes, I can do a lot of research, and the team has to agree on a modus operandi.

[Edit: I posted her translated appearance now.]

Description:
Surviving the Puyallup Barrens as an orphan. That was his greatest accomplishment to date.Avoiding the ork and troll bullies, staying away from perverts and gang recruiters, never seeing the inside of a cell. All thanks to his good looks  his uncanny abilities to tread oh so lightly and lie without blinking.A  glorious but shortlived carreer as a cat burglar and then it was time to say goodbye to that garbage town. The world was not fair so he should play by its chaotic rules. As long as they suited him.But life is a gift, even if most of the wageslaves and the rest of the victims around him don't know what to do with it.
And he was determined to savour life, ascend the stairway to heaven, one step at a time.
Orphan brat,burglar, shadowrunner and then...more!

Backstory
Nicknamed "Slobbertooth" for his notably large tusks, Josiah Willows was born a SINless child to his William and Zelda in Seattle in 2055, Josiah Willows did not expect to be a runner. He began manifesting the gifts of an adept when he was 8 year old, gifts his parents encouraged him to further develop and hone along with the natural athletic gifts he was born with. It was a nice childhood. His parents made enough money to own a small home, and they lived in a tightly knit corner of the sprawls. They had enough money that he was able to practice martial arts and still eat. He made fast friends with the Armstrong children, a third generation Japanese family, enough that he  would pick up Japanese, in addition to the Or'zet and English spoke in his home. To this day, he relies on Kazuya Armstrong as his primary fixer to get the tools he needs.

The happy childhood was destroyed in December of 2062. Josiah returned to his home one evening after visiting the Armstrongs to find it burning. His father had been hung and then shot in front of the building, his mother knocked unconscious and left with everything he and his family owned to burn in the fire. It was a Humanis hate crime executed by some small time gangers. That was also the first time that slobbertooth heard the voice of the Wolf, chiding him to hunt the men who killed his family. For the next three years, the Armstrong family would provide him shelter, and he taught himself how to accurately fire a gun, keeping an ear open for news about the men murdered William and Zelda Willows.

In 2068, human supremacists began threatening the Armstrong family, having learned that they were, in their words "protecting a tusker who defames the purity of our sprawl." Slobbertooth left the house with everything he owned the following evening to protect the Armstrong family from further violence. Slobbertooth began his career running in the shadows, after "dealing" with the supremacists threatening Kazuya's family. While Slobbertooth relies on runs to pay the bills, he takes particular pride in the completion of any job that targets Humanis' or any other Human Supremacist group's operations, and will often jump at the chance to complete a job to get him closer to his parent's killers.

+1

But could we please wait with the freight yard and the helicopter until we're actually there? I really don't want to keep us from playing or from going to action, but no shadowrunner team (especially no sr team with a good decker) would go into the open trap without getting high in info, if they can. Plus, we have 5 mins of drive, that's 100 combat turns in which our plans could easily change before we even know of the helicopter. And, since Torrent asked bnc to check out gear in the area before we go there, bnc might have found the helicopter before the helicopter found us.

Are we sure the helicopter is relevant to our mission?
Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...
Post by: SquirrelDude on <11-19-14/1151:16>
Of course not. We're not sure of anything about this mission, yet, other than that we're going to be at a trainyard. That said, a low-flying helicopter is not a good omen.

I think it's a basic runner's rule to never assume anything is insignificant until proven otherwise, hehe.

Just clearing this out of the way, I want to see how much Krestov remembers of the Wasteland crew.  Knowing their squad makeup and how they operate may help shed light on the inky weirdness we're dealing with:

Wasteland's crew was put together by as a way to get beyond Humanis' abuse. All four members of the crew (two orks and two trolls) were introduced to the finer points of a mass beating at some points in their lives. They make a living on smashing a lot of expensive things to make their runs look like gangland attacks to throw off the fuzz.

You only know one of the crew members by name, Wasteland. But the armory composition you're familar with.

Wasteland: (Ork) She's the leader, carries a SPAS-22 and provides tactical leadership.
Ork 2: The rigger, with a miniature army of flying combat drones. Also the team's hacker.
Troll 1: Carries a Stone Ares M202.
Troll 2: Carries an Ingram White Knight

They conducted themselves professionally and very effectively on the Azzie heist. They wouldn't have made the call if they weren't in trouble. Furthermore, Armstrong never would've routed you to the op site if he believed the call wasn't genuine.

Whoopsie.

Anywhere close to the railroad tracks is a good spot, the noise and the shape of the trains will cover your approach from just about any vector, including straight up the road to the former car parks from where the van is parked now. The structure in the middle where Wasteland's team is has no windows and few doors (one on this side, facing you, and one directly the other side).

Can I determine when the last commlink activity had occured? Since when is the communication dead, that is. Especially interesting: Had there been any communication with Armstrong?

For Volker, Last commlink activity appears to have been when Wasteland's 'link dialed Armstrong's business number.

I'm always a bit hesitant to split the adventuring party team, but that's probably for the best in this situation. If there is someone in there waiting for us, I don't want them having an easy escape route out.

Luckily, splitting the team doesn't mean we are cut off, thanks to modern communication technology and ranged weaponry :D

Also, in conformance with party wishes, I am right to assume this convo is all happening en route. Yes?

@SnowDragon: I also checked the time, but I assume that's okay.

Here's my Matrix perception test. Basically I'll go to where we head and look around for ANY online objects (including helicopters ^^), filtering out working drones, trying to identify them and also mark them in our map. Basically what's most interesting is commlinks, smartgun systems, unusual drones (and helicopters).

Wow -.- impressive

@team: Shouldn't this conversation take play IT in the IT thread?

Just to have it mentioned somewhere: bnc's biomonitor is set to automatically send a report to Krestov's link as soon as bnc's vitals get alarming.

This is confirmed.  It would take 6-7 combat rounds to reach her without Running tests due to distance, but that is the setup :)

Meanwhile, I go to brush up on combat rules, namely damage soaking and the finer points of ranged combat :D

EDIT: (noted that sheet got posted up on the 1st page of this thread.  Adjusted weight to accurately match a troll of his size.  Snowdragon, would you prefer I put background up here or pm it to you?)

Since our chars are supposed to know each other, whereas we don't know anything about them, I allowed myself to create another thread where our chars can, if their players want, get to know each other. This might improve our roleplaying also, since we get a feel for our comrade's chars.

That... was an amazingly bad roll. :P

Perception wise there are a *lot* of drones here. There are so many it's difficult to locate anything but them and the commlinks you've already found. But, you know you find no helicopters. The one that overflew the van on the way there is now well out of range.

@SnowDragon

Yeah. At least it was no damage resistance test or something.

Just to make things clear: I don't look around at the place where my meat body lies, but I go VR to the freight yard, filter out any unarmed drones and
then look around.

And I do all this BEFORE we arrive there.

So, please confirm: There are no commlinks online that do not belong to Wasteland and I missed the helicopter. The helicopter can't be "out of range" since I'll be right at the very spot. I can miss it, though. Normally you need only a single hit to find a target. So I should at least find something, I guess.

Also important: Do the Wasteland's commlinks move or are they stationary?

Sorry for bothering you so much. You can go on with the action, though. Let's get the party started!

PS: I edited my last IC post to include my new informations. Please note that I rebooted my deck.

Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...
Post by: Volker on <11-25-14/0234:11>
Sorry for sounding annoyed, but it's really not easy to play a decker if it takes over a week to answer a simple Matrix perception test. I still don't know whether Wasteland's commlinks are moving, which is an essential informatoin. I don't know whether there are any commlinks out there, or if there is some kind of jammer that prevents me from seeing anything properly. If there is no jammer, it's just a single Matrix perception test, requiring one single hit. If there is a jammer, I'd know.

Being a decker and getting no information is like being a mage who cannot perform magic. So could you please take five minutes to answer my questions properly?

[Edit: There is no showing up "anymore", because this matrix search all happened BEFORE we encountered the heli in RL....]
Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...

Well if anything runs silently then a single hit won't tell you that its there, right?
Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...
Post by: Volker on <11-25-14/0443:00>
Well if anything runs silently then a single hit won't tell you that its there, right?

That's right. If it is so, then I would - assuming that I failed the perception test - see nothing. And I'm fine with that, too. I just need one clear statement confirming that I don't see anything although I'm (VR-wise) at the place of the scenery (BEFORE the car arrives at the freight yard). I'm ready to go, then.

If my GM needs the stats for my perception tests, I have INT 5, Computer 6, gain +2 from hotsim, my Data Processing rating is 5. I have 2 points of noise reduction. There will be 1 point of noise due to the distance and probably 1 point due to spam. Thus, I should throw 13 dice on any perception tests, and have a limit of 5. I'd ask the GM (if he hasn't done this already - I can't know) to throw any tests, should the commlinks of any opponents run silently. OF COURSE he doesn't have to post his throws - because I should not know whether there is anything or not.

That said, I repeat again that we can alraedy go on IC-wise. bnc will tell you whatever she knows as soon as I get the info.

Sorry, youll have to forgive me, im not as together on 5e matrix rules as id like to be. There isnt anything else really of note that appears on route. The helicopter though, that one is on me, i didnt realise that was before arrival. With that in mind...

The helicopter is definately doing some hijinks. You know where it is, in real space, but cannot get a fix on it in the matrix.

Also on the commlinks, that one is on me personnally. Wastelands commlinks are not moving. Completely still. And their drones are currently inactive.

Thanks, great! I meant no offense! Now I'm fully in again. Great!

As to the Matrix rules: Yeah, I know, they're a bitch. I try and prepare everything as good as possible so that you only need to make decisions, roll dice and tell me the awful truth.

Now, as to my further actions.
Firstly, I want to look if there are any online Bio-monitors. bnc, for example, has a bio-monitor online that is connected to Krestov's 'link. This way, he can always see when bnc is doing drugs. Or is dying. I'd like to know whether they geeked our team. So, if there is a bio-monitor, please tell me. If not, we can move on to the helicopter.

Here comes secondly. As soon as I actually see the heli with my meat eyes (or someone else), I try to find it in the Matrix. If "doing some hijinks" means "running silent" (sorry, I'm a non-Native speaker) that's how it goes:
Normally it's invisible for me. As soon as I start looking for it (because we saw it in RL), here comes an Opposed test:
I throw Computer + Intuition [Data Processing], that is: 13 [5]. I assume that in this area there should not be more than 3 points of noise.

He throws Logic + Sleaze. Basically, if you don't want to read throw the whole lot of rules, just make a dice pool up, I guess.
If I score net hits, I find him. If not, I don't.

So, that's my two actions to which I will need a response at some point.

@Volker: Lemme know if I've missed anything else for your matrix rolls. For everyone else, bnc pulled a partial tail number off the helicopter, 6638.

Otherwise, any questions or comments, lemme know, I look forward to the next batch of replies!

Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...
Post by: Volker on <11-27-14/0615:22>
Okay, what I do now is, first of all, a lot of Matrix perception tests, because I can't do anything if I don't see any targets.

An enemy decker or rigger can enslave a number of devices equal to his deck's device rating * 3. In bnc's case, for example, this is 9 (=3*3). If a device is a Slave, you can use the decker's Logic, if it is higher, and the deck's Sleaze attribute, thus giving a certain protection from being found. You'd at least have to roll these tests. But I doubt, any hacker could hide the whole group. In our case, for example, I manage to hide most of our commlinks and smartguns, but no extra gear, extra weapons and so on.
Also, this all is only true if they are running silent, which means a -2 dice pool modifier on any Matrix actions. If they use their full dice pools, I see them as automatically as you can see trees in a park. I'm not sure whether a smartgun can run silently.
Any perception test is a Complex Action. I have 4D6+9 Initiative. So I should in average have one perception test a second.

Soo ... what can I see? :)

Well, the first roll was the important one.

By the way, if she either is not going to die in the first place or she managed to stabilize due to the traumapatch already, there is no need for a Stabilization test. In this case, if the GM is friendly, he might allow the scores to be valid for the regular First Aid test.

If not, I saved her life. She'd better be content with that ^^

+1.  The pacing works with my life as it is.

With that in mind, we did have the Truth or Dare spinoff going for a bit.  Though..it's looking like general interest for it has waned?

Also fine by me. There's a bit of forum in the morning, then the day can start.

@GM: Only if you have time to fit in before the big posting - do you think you could quickly roll the Opposed tests? Than I could continue and we could stuff it all in the next IC post.

With that in mind, we did have the Truth or Dare spinoff going for a bit.  Though..it's looking like general interest for it has waned?

Sadly. I found it quite amusing and hope that somebody's going to post soon. If not, I'll just proceed without any orders and hope that spinning is more interesting than ordering and the talk in between. I just thought, that the talk in between would how we really could get to know each other.

Pretty much, looks like it.  Seeing as how loot the bodies, recover the fallen, find the van, and extract asap seems to be the unanimous decision, hehe.

Waiting on Torrent's spin I believe.

We are. But I think we can go on a little in the IC thread also. SInce the GM said so, apparently we have some time for debating before something explodes under our arses.

Apologies if people were waiting on me.

Also, if it's gonna come up...for the sake of expediency, i'll roll lifting and carrying for Krestov for the extraction:

Capacity 80kg +( Lifting and Carrying (http://orokos.com/roll/239188): 17d6t5 6 x 10 kg) = 140 kg (!)

Although bnc's not technically addicted to Whoom (she was in her first build, but there's a limitation to how much Karma you can get from negative qualities), I'd like her to play as an addict. Thus, I rolled a WIP + LOC test to check whether she succumbs to her desire now, or not:

Suppress my desire for Whoom (http://orokos.com/roll/239574): 13d6t5 4

I guess she can hold it for another hour.

As much as I'd just love to end this part of the run, I'm not just going to skip right past a GMs chance to kill my character as he moves through the open.

Welcome back mate!

If you feel like it, you could also check out the topic "Truth or Dare" because I think you will discover some interesting stuff about our characters! Volker's idea really worked

As I've said already, welcome back Snow :)  I'll echo Sabato's sentiment that Truth of Dare is a pleasant success for character development.  Well worth a read, great work Volker for thinking it :)

Looking forward to seeing the action back up again!

I was going towards Wasteland's truck to check it out.And I rolled perception since I saw the black smoke.
If there's nothing to be found or seen then we could skip, I guess

Just one question... What local population?  This was made out to be a (mostly) fully autonomous drone-operated trainyard well off the beaten path.  I doubt you'd find anyone else after hours, as even in 2075 industrial and residential sectors rarely mix :P

@GM

I assume I receive a penalty on visual tests due to darkness, so I will change my contacts device mode to thermographic
I'll roll with -1 penalty but if the penalty is greater feel free to roll perception for me, my full dp is 10 dice

Perception Roll (see if the truck is locked, damaged etc) (http://orokos.com/roll/246322): 9d6t5 3

Can I unlock it with locksmith? If yes

Locksmith test for the truck (http://orokos.com/roll/246323): 10d6t5 2

Well, unless it is an extended test I don't think I can make it :/

Agreed.   Snow, if you read this, I love ya, but we need to press this plot on and move to the next scene or so.  Your last post tells me there was nothing more to be gained from this phase.

This has been one of the smoothest pbp games I've participated in.

According to his profile, GM has not been online for 6 days now. Seems to have big trouble in RL or something.
Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...

I just checked. Since Jan 16th we had a sum of 7 posts (not counting mine), the last being 5 days ago. I'll give the thread one more week. If we don't manage a reasonable rate (3 posts a week or something), I'm out.
Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...

Sounds fair to me.
Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...
Post by: SgtBoomCloud on <01-27-15/1139:18>
I know I haven't been adhering to a very consistent posting rate, and for that I apologize.  That being said, I think we can all agree that, with no sighting of him in any pbp or thread he's involved in, Snowdragon can now be officially considered MIA.

Which leaves us not only a runner down, but our GM down as well, and this run can only go so far without a GM's input.  Which leaves us with a few options, which I will throw out there for consideration:

-we declare this storyline closed and go our separate ways.  Not favorable, but an option.

-seek and recruit a replacement GM to pick up where Snow left off, or

-using the same group of runners, recruit a GM and another player or two and start up another run, either chronologicalky before or after What Happens.

To reiterate what someone said before, we have a totally kickass group of runners, so I am personally leaning towards the second or third option, and will make effort to post more regularly.

- As a last note, I will speak for this person, and mention that Volker is willing to offer to GM if desired, under the idea that we will post as he mentions above.  I'm assuming this would put bnc in either gmpc status or removed eniteely for some plot reason .  I dunno.

Anyhow, what do we all think about this?
Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...

I'm all for playing with this team, either in a new campaign or this one.

I got no problem with Volker being the new  GM but I'd like bnc  to stay as a member no matter what

Title: Re: [OOC] What Happens In Seattle...
Post by: Volker on <01-27-15/2351:06>
Hoi!

It's true I offered to GM. I would have loved to play bnc at least once (I have her in another group, too, and I'm GM there, too) but I guess a decker is a wonderful GMPC anyway. I do not offer to remove her from the group, however. I love her too much!

So, here's what I suggest. We post that we are looking for a GM. If someone opts, we'll take him (or her, respectively). If not, I'll do the job.

Under three conditions, however: Basically, I don't care whether we take up the loose ends of this run (I will just make up a story that starts the same way this one did), or we start a new run entirely (if I am GM).
What say you?
