Title: [OOC] Honest to god milk runs, Part 2- (Dat one ring)
Post by: Poindexter on <03-03-15/1848:05>
Ok, folks, the three runners selected for this simple mission are...

1- Janitor, Ork Second-story-man, created by Jack Spade
2- Dolly, Pixie Vodou Summoner, created by Malevolence
3- Ballz, Elf Face, created by Gilga

Welcome to Jacksonville, Old Jack City as the locals call it. It's hot 10 months out of the year, during which it rains at 3 o'clock every day for about 20 minutes to an hour, but sometimes for days. For the other two months, its just as wet, but cold. Really cold. Like, right next to the Atlantic ocean cold. Never QUITE cold enough to freeze for longer than a day at a time, leaving the place choked in a layer of slush the entire time. It's one of the oldest cities on the continent, and as far as land space goes, THE largest. It's got a port and a naval base, but neither one are of much importance. There are far better places on the shore for both those activities than here, so there's not many jobs at the port and not many tips from the sailors.

Due to the geographical uniqueness of the place, being a city, more or less surrounded by rivers and swamps, it can be a little tricky for newcomers to get around. If you're not on autopilot, expect to make NAV rolls, and expect them to be harder if you lack the Area Knowledge: Jacksonville skill. Naturally divided into little sections by rivers and the bridges that run over them, it's an incredibly segregated place. You're NEARLY as likely to be accosted for "walking while squish" as you are for "driving while trog" It's also very religiously intolerant. You will NOT be hired for most conventional 9-5 jobs, no matter how minor if you are openly non-christian. Even among christians, Non-southern baptists are viewed with suspicion, although not outwardly scorned.

Most people here are lazy as shit. The mayor, the clergy, the workers, the drug dealers, the cops, the strippers, the soldiers, the gang bangers, the garbage men, you name it. Something about the heat just fucks with people's priorities. Whether you fall into the same category as the rest or not is ALL up to you, but I felt it bared mentioning that things are WAY more laid back in Old Jack City than in Chicago, Seattle, or Denver. A good place for a person, new to the shadows to get their feet wet. An even BETTER place for an experienced runner, trying to lay low, but still make a little cash to keep the belly full while on the lam. And it's a perfect place for new relationships to be born and for old ones to die. Something about the forceful salty wind that comes off the beach has a way of eroding everything in time.

Here's some basic info on the main large gangs in the area.

1- Red five: a go gang from the Atlantic beach area, They're mainly about extortion, smuggling, and mayhem for the sake of fun. Wear red X's and talk in star wars lingo. has no "official" leadership, but a guy who calls himself "Grand Moffuckin' Tarkin" seems to have a lot of pull with the rest of the squad. moreso than most, probably just cause he has the biggest balls.
2- Krubb Force: a primarily goblin gang from the emerson/phillips highway area. Drugs, gambling, prostitution. No identifying markers, but they only speak or'zet, and with a heavy local dialect, so non-members are fairly easy to root out. Locals ONLY.  Headed up by an aging ork called Twine. He's smarter than he is ruthless, which is considerable. He runs the group almost like a business and so has several lower ranking officers as well as division heads and project managers.
3- Dixie Sisters Gang: A largely human inbred family run gang in the westside. Specializes in drug manufacture, manufacture and modification of illegal gear, chop shops, etc. All keep Green bandanas somewhere on their person. headed up by Jolene and Tammy Dixie, two hardcore old human ladies, chromed to bejeezus and mean as hornets.
4- Hermanos: An all awakened and spanish speaking gang that runs riverside efficiently and with nearly no violence. They're all about protection rackets, gambling, and extortion. run by complete democracy with no leaders of any sort.

Unknown by anyone outside gang circles, but suspected by some who care in police and the media, there has been a somewhat official gang truce in effect for almost 10 years now, with profits soaring for everyone involved.

I would like each of you three, in whatever order you choose, to post up your character sheets as well as backstory and BRIEF physical appearance (once they're finished) before anyone posts anything else. We can keep chatting in the recruiting thread until then.

Race: Pixie
Sex: Female
Nationality: CAS
Lifestyle: Medium
Karma Spent: 0
Unspent Karma: 7
Physical Description: Light brown skin, golden brown eyes, shoulder length brown hair, and nearly invisible dragonfly wings that reflect a dull rainbow like an oil slick if the light catches them just right. She stands (rarely) 48cm tall with lean build and pleasant curves. Her face is attractive with a small, narrow nose and full lips topped by large, almond shaped eyes. Her voice is melodious and speaks with the easy southern drawl common in the Big Easy.
Personality/background Generally pleasant and chatty, she has a mild fear of felines and other small predators that tend to view her as a toy or a meal. She is fiercely outspoken in defending the rights of metasapients, and by extension, all metahumans and variants. She is also loyal to NeoNET, though the need to keep quiet about her affiliation when working on the streets often takes priority.

Contacts:
1. Linda 'mom' Edwin (1/6)  - Balls mother is an awakened street doctor. They live together and have some complex relationship. Revolving Balls performance, and recently his shadow running. Apparently his mother was once a shadow runner and always dreamed of performing. She sacrificed her dreams to raise Balls.

2. One67 (4/3 ) Balls knows him from performing. He is also one of the contacts of his mother dropping shadow runners at their joint at odd hours. He watched Balls grow up and balls think his mother knows One67 from her shadow running days.

3.  Cybertooth (3/4) - a gang mid level leader that is responsible over Balls neighborhood. He is the one Balls talked up, and they become friends and are now working together. In Krub Force - Balls is socially accepted in the gang but does not receive any other benefit out of this cooperation, as directly instructed by the gang leader.

4. Robert Tromer (2/2) - Balls dorms buddy from university - They both studied magic together although -  Robert was always into different magical arts. He is also a terrible drinker and cannot hold his liqueur. They were once good friends but over the years they downgraded to a professional relationship.  Robert is a Talismonger.

Physical description:

Balls is tall and skinny clearly an elf although he is dressed like an orc. His clothes appear to be way bigger than his modest size. To a run, he also wears a leather jackets covered with logos of his all time of favorite orc and rock bands.

He has dark hair, green eyes, and unlike most in the business he is completely unarmed. The guitar case he usually carry with him actually contains a guitar. Although, the average runner would assume it contains an assault rifle.  He is also a bit famous in UCAS -  if you are following orc rap you probably heard his name before.

Post by: Jack_Spade on <03-04-15/1214:42>
"How the hell did I end up here in Jackson-fucking-ville? Don't get me wrong, I know exactly how I got here - on my bike over half the continent from Denver. It's not exactly pleasant, but you tend to swallow so many bugs that you can at least keep the food expenses low.
If I had to pinpoint the moment where everything went to shit, I'd say it was the day after my 19th birthday. That was the day I graduated from mil-school and this g-man with his nice black suit asked me if I wanted to serve my country...
Yeah don't look so surprised, I did go to school, graduated even - law to be precise. I grew up in a rough part of Seattle. My parents had fled from Europe to escape some pretty mean Humanis Skinheads. Yeah, yeah, 'didn't think that through really. So there is me, the little ork and my parents to shellshocked and to orkish to find a good job in the Barrens. The gangs really were my only option at that point - and those guys can always use some muscle, even if it's a little ork kid.
At least my parents had the sense to keep me out of the worst trouble - never got arrested which meant I could join the army and get some education. I never had much use for book smarts, but I am perceptive and good with rote learning which apparently is enough in the army to get a law degree.
Usually they would have sent me on a few tours and fast tracked me to become a commissioned officer.
But of course, this fucking g-man had to turn up to recruit me for some special operations shit. Up in New York they stuffed me full of chrome - most of it government stuff, meaning it was obsolete tech even back then - and sent me right back to the gangs to find out why some of them were so flush with military hardware. Hadn't been there a month before some idiot blew my cover and I had to jump out of a second story window. But the kicker was them laying the blame on me - dishonorable discharge inclusive. At least they didn't try to cut the chrome out again.
That's how I got into the shadows of Denver: After the bills began piling up I applied for a license to catch bail jumpers and other scum who thought they could escape consequences by getting into another sector - wasn't long before I also went after people for other reasons - namely people who offered large wads of cash and weren't to keen on being asked questions. That's how I got my name - The Janitor, collecting the trash and clean up the pieces.

But as always happens, my last contract there proved to be a mistake: Black bagged a little guy who liked to carve up his whores. Big mistake, the asshole was friends with the Vory and those guys really have no sense of humor whatsoever. Burned down the bordello and carved up the rest of the girls - me, I got the hell out of Dodge or rather Denver. An acquaintance of mine said I should head to the south-east since a friend of his always had a use for competent runners.
Well, now I'm here and that asshole Ricky hasn't had one decent job for me in four weeks.

Man, I sure could use a decent payday otherwise I'll have leave this roach infested shit hole early and try my luck with the Vory...

Cool, now that everyone's  up, let's talk contacts. Everyone gets a free one. His name is One67.

Sam "One67" Tallman
Small time to mid level fixer who lives in riverside. Problems with addiction and impulse control. He is a solid and honorable man, nonetheless and loves his friends more than anything. Doesn't want to screw anyone over, but watches out for number one first and foremost. He's a near legendary graffitti artist and anytime you see a train go by, you have a good chance of seeing his name painted in stunning detail on the side. He's got a connections rating of 4, and you can take him at whatever loyalty you want, but you only get 1 for free. anything else you've gotta buy. You'll also need to justify it in game, as well as why you're in jacksonville. If your loyalty is below 3, you don't know his real name. You may even only know him as "One", "Six-seven", or "Scrub".

I need to know a few more things from each of you before we get going.
1- How did you meet One?
2- What side of town do you live on?
3- How long have you been in town and how familiar with the area are you?

I can work with you on any of these questions you need,

Do yall have any questions so far?

I'd say Mike knows "One" only as a contact of his fixer (taking the loyalty 1). He is desperate for work (debts, you know) and will take a job even from a less well known source.

Mike's hideout lies riverside within Hermanos territory. He has studied the available maps but didn't venture outside his crappy motel room since he arrived in Jacksonville about one week ago.

Your fixer, did he/she just give you a commcode? Give One a commcode? Introduce you in person? Have you worked for One before or purchased goods from him in the past? He is skilled at obtaining drugs.

Nope, just a call from Ricky telling Mike, that if he wants work, he can give his number to a local colleague of his. Mike therefore expects a call from One, but has never met him before.

1. Balls lives in the Force territory. If 'one' grew up in the area they can be neighbors. Balls mother is  a street doctor - she might have worked with one,  patching up some of his runners no questions asked. Possibly in the middle of night - she might be one of his contacts.

2. He probably met young balls while doing legwork, watching the young elf boy growing over the years. Heck she could be one of the runners that worked for 'one' until... balls was born.  How old is 'one' ?

3. Balls is local and lived in Jacksonville his entire life. (except university)

You also know One from the local rap battle scene, as he is nearly as legendary in that as he is in the graffiti scene.

Cool so I'll buy him at the maximum allowed 3 loyalty.
Now I got to figure some new contacts I think I kept 17 more karma for contacts.

I am thinking some ganger - the one balls talked up that balls now work with/helps.
I'll give him 7 points.

Do I need 'balls' mom as a contact?  I mean she is defiantly someone to call too
I just do not know how it fits in the connection/loyalty system I should give her 1/6 maybe?

one67 can also be someone from the rap scene so that is covered.

I'm taking him at the minimum loyalty as well.

For now, Dolly is just visiting Jacksonville, likely as a vacation or for some business (likely a little of both). I'm going to guess that she either bumped into "Six-Seven" while she was taking in the sights or heard of him all the way in Orleans during her time as a runner there. Since you can't really miss his artwork, it's likely she was curious about it and asked around. So, yeah, I'll go with all of the above. She saw his work while sightseeing, and when she asked who the "artist" was, she remembered the name as someone her fixer in Orleans had mentioned. So she felt she had the cred to seek him out and let him know she appreciated his work and it evolved from there into a "work trip".

I updated my character sheet post to give names to my contacts and add 67, as well as change a few things out.

I feel like you should find the karma in there to take the "Interest: Art" knowledge skill to reflect her interest in such things, but I like it, overall. What side of town is she staying on?

The fancier side, whichever that may be. All things being equal, she'll probably tend toward the Hermanos as the order and lack of violence appeals.

I can certainly move some points around to put them in art, and I actually like the idea of doing so. I'll probably see what I can pull to put some there and into music as well in order to make her more cultured. I can probably pull the points from fashion, though part of my image of her is that she designs and makes her own clothes using a task spirit  (she designs with her fashion skill, then lets a task spirit possess her in order to craft them). With a dice pool of 14 in Artisan and 9-11 in Fashion, she has some pretty fashionable and quality clothes.

Hi, I modified the charsheet a bit. I was one point missing and I saw that I got Einglish N and I sort of wanted Or'zet N as well (can't be a good rapper with 2) so I took off yet another spell (only 4 remain karma is a bit tight) To get the bilingual quality that fits well with being raised by an orc mother.
Balls will definitely need to learn more spells on the fly but now his language skills matches his back-story so I am happy. I think it is reasonable that he knows few spells being a mystic adept and into music his attention is divided into 3 different realms.

I also added the contacts - it was a compromise but I managed to cover his back story.

PS: I think it is a shame Life modules do not give contacts. It was fun making the story with them and they seem to yield a very similar character to what i had in mind. With a lot more knowledge skills and fluff skills.

The one thing I think is a shame - that these modules do not include some fluff contacts. I guess you do know people from every phase in life but most are not relevant for your shadow-run carrier.

How fancy are we talking here? The fancier areas are nearly devoid of gang activity.

https://www.google.com/maps/@30.2785986,-81.522959,12z?hl=en

Basically, areas that would be fancier (high lifestyle and above) would be Ponte Vedra, Sawgrass, Palm Valley, Deerwood, Golden Glades, Blount Island, and Mandarin.
In those areas that border on less nice areas, It's possible to find Middle lifestyle housing from time to time.

Post by: Malevolence on <03-06-15/1952:32>
She's middle lifestyle, so that option (living on the border of a high-life area) would work. It would certainly appeal to her (as a cultured pixie) more than living in gang territory.

Since being taken in by her foster parents, she's basically lived in corp housing, so she's used to the more secure and presumably "nicer" areas. As a corporate SINner, she could very well still be living in corporate housing even though she isn't actively employed at the moment (I probably should have taken the Day Job NQ instead of Creature of Comfort, but that puts additional burden on the GM to work it into the campaign, otherwise it's not really a NQ, so I opted not to). I haven't really come up with a good way for her to keep her association with NeoNET but still explain her lack of "official" employment - I'm mostly leaning toward "layoff", so she still has the SIN and access to corporate services it provides (living areas, etc - not material resources), but has the free time to pursue Shadowrunning.

If it's too much trouble to have us live in areas outside the four gang areas, it's no problem for her to live in one of them. Her experience with Spanish and/or her general lack of familiarity with the are could explain her living in the Hermanos controlled region. Being largely free of violence, she'd probably hardly care to move if given the opportunity so long as Middle lifestyle housing is available (gotta cater to that CoC NQ...).

It's no trouble at all. I had assumed someone would live outside the hood. Pick a spot.

Also, how should we handle starting funds from lifestyle? Roll, or assume one of Max/Med/Min?

Sorry my IC is taking so long. I keep getting sidetracked at work. Anyway, it's almost done. Here are some rolls:
Summoning a task spirit. I am summoning it at Force 6 (limit 6), but due to Sprit Whisperer, it shows up (and resists) as Force 7.
Magic 6 + Summoning 7 = 13 [6]

Summon Task Spirit [Force 7] (http://orokos.com/roll/262466): 13d6t5 9 (limited to 6)
Task Spirit Resist (http://orokos.com/roll/262468): 7d6t5 2
4 services
Resist Drain
Charisma 8 + Willpower 7 = 15 vs Spirit hits 2 * 2 = 4
Resist Drain (http://orokos.com/roll/262469): 15d6t5 5
No Drain!
Run speed of (24 m/T * 1200 T/hour / 1000 m/km * spirit force of 7) 201.6 km/h (flying), here I come! Or I can walk at 67.2 km/h (flying).

hits the social limit - no hits spend.

I mistakenly used the standard gen version of balls - the life module only has 16 dice + 1 for fame.

19d6t5:  8 [19d6t5=1, 1, 2, 6, 5, 3, 5, 2, 6, 3, 6, 5, 4, 6, 6, 3, 4, 4, 5] so lets take 2 dice off - 8 hits.

If relevant (since I did have her scope the crowd for suspicious persons), here's a perception check:
Perception 3 + Intuition 5 = 8
Perception (http://orokos.com/roll/262909): 8d6t5 4 [3, 6, 3, 1, 6, 2, 6, 6]

You will NOT be hired for most jobs, no matter how minor if you are openly non-christian. Even among christians, Non-southern baptists are viewed with suspicion, although not outwardly scorned.
I wanted to point out, in consideration of this, that Louisiana Voodoo (the Vodou that Dolly practices) is strongly tied to Catholicism. However, it only goes so far as equating major Loa to Catholic saints and Bondye (the greatest Loa) to God (though this part might be unique to Hatian Vodou), as well as attending Sunday Mass, which might not get a pass from most Christians anyway, and might even upset them to see their religion "twisted", in their eyes. And it's not Southern Baptist at any rate, so there's that. And her makeup can make it fairly obvious that she is a Vodou practitioner to most people that are passingly familiar with it.

As a corporate girl with etiquette, she's used to changing her appearance to match the situation, so I'm going to tone down the Vodou face and body pigments to make it less obvious, so at least people won't spot her as Vodou at a glance, though with her fame, they might recognize her anyway and know what her tradition is.

But the bottom line is that it will depend on the person how they view Vodou and whether they consider it a type of Christianity - if believing in the same God is enough, then she's golden, but if following all of the details is required, it might pose problems. The use of the term "openly" might leave her wiggle room - she certainly won't argue religion with anyone and will likely share a large number of viewpoints with Christians, so unless she is outright asked about her religious affiliation, she might be able to skate around in the grey areas of that term.

I should have specified, "Most conventional jobs" not shadowrunning jobs.

Yes... ;)
Well I assume balls is around 30 according to his life modules, lets say finished university at 20, then 8 years working as a mage cooperate and street and he is now in the middle of his 'celebrity module' so 30. He is an elf so he still got his boyish face as if he's 18 tough.

Yes, we agreed to that coincidence in private chat. Dolly is 33, so she's a little older than him, but they are close enough to have crossed paths if he also attended Vassar.

ok, gilga, what with the amount of hits you can buy off etiquette, I'm gonna let ya edit that IC post there, as Balls is certain that saying that to One WILL get his ass kicked, thrown in a trunk, and held until after the run is completed. I disagree. You gotta see this from the perspective of a fixer. Some shady person is paying you money to hire other shady people to do something illegal for them. At the meet, one of the shady people you're trying to hire insults you and gives intention that they are more loyal to the victim of the illegal activity than they are to the you. They MIGHT go and warn the victim in attempt to gain favor. You dont wanna kill them, cause no one wants to work for a fixer who kills the shady people he hires, but you also cant just let him be on his way. You gotta make SURE he stays quiet or the job you've been paid by shady people to do might get fucked up.

Follow me?

Balls is NOT here as a rapper for hire.
Balls is here to do illegal things for money.

Yes but they are friends - so he should know that Balls is relatively connected with these fella's, and is local so he cares about his reputation. He called him anyhow, so either he needs these connections or he feels that Balls will be loyal to him never the less.   He should also anticipate that Balls will be angry when he hears the details - just saying...

By the way I totally don't mind if this gig ends with balls in the trunk of a car - it is a one week gig you can't easily do it tough. People will look for him records guys his mother - not that easy it is not like it is a few hours.

I don't know what it will forecast for the future - and no fixer wants a runner that tips the other side - if he was planning to do so he wouldn't have said anything to One.  He is a professional with complete control over his face and expressions and he chose to express anger - because he felt a line was crossed, and 5k nuyen are not going to make it better.

Which is exactly why I let you know how One would react and gave you the chance to edit your post before he does so.
Despite Balls being a little offended (i still dont quite get why, but it's your character, so do what ya feel) he's still enough of a professional to know when it's time to not to give such offense voice.
His vast experience in social settings of etiquette tells him that now is such a time.

Well, it assumes alot without basis.

Seriously One I think you had now one too many, asking me to mess with Krubbs after I spent so much time trying to get them to trust me. I will do it like I promised but seriously I am risking every bit of hard earned trust to save your ass on this one.

1- you have promised to do nothing yet. This is a simple job offer.
2- no implication has been made that anyone is "Saving anyone's ass" here.

after that ring goes missing our names will be linked up.

why should they, unless your faces get seen?

So - coming to think about it you actually owe us quite a big favor - and you better spill out anything you know about that ring or the ring carrier guy. This is the least you could do after that - you shouldn't risk my reputation like that man this is not cool!

1- no one is risking anyone's reputation anymore than any other shadowrun job would. Don't get seen. simple as that
2- what ring carrier guy? what are you talking about? do you mean the owner?
3- Phrases like "You owe us a big favor" and "you better do thus and such" and "this is not cool" are still more toward the "stuffed in a trunk for a week" sort of area.

Not wanting to piss off the wrong people, and wanting to continue living there along with a fixer that seemed to be beaten up already. (not very reassuring) I think balls will not do this gig. He'll avoid speaking his mind to One so he don't want to end up in the trunk of his car.

Oh, this wont be easy, it just wont be complicated or twisty.
I'm trying to stick very much to the formula of:
1- meet
2- legwork
3- run
4- meet

and from the looks of it, yall are done with phase one, having only lost one runner in the process. So it looks like yalls plan now is for Janitor to chill in a coffee shop doing research, while Dolly takes some time to recompose herself. Do about 24 hours worth of legwork, then meet up with One again to let him know whether you want his backup face or not (Who I should mention is a REALLY good roleplayer, by the way) and finalize payment agreement. Am i correct here?
Title: Re: [OOC] Honest to god milk runs, Part 2- (Dat one ring)
Post by: Malevolence on <03-16-15/0042:23>
Yup, I think that sums it up. After an hour of rest, Dolly will link up with Janitor so they can review the info together and plan their next moves. She'd obviously review what was on the burner with an interest towards astral security. If there's a gap in that, the job can be as simple as possess, drop ring in a secluded location, then depossess a few minutes later and pick up the ring. Other than the summoner, possessed vessels don't have any recollection of what happened while the spirit was in charge, so he'd just eventually notice his ring was missing and wonder when he took it off. If he was possessed while unconscious or in an altered state of consciousness, he might not even have any reason to think anything out of the ordinary had happened.

But, in this day and age, I suspect that there is a strong astral component to his security.

I'm a "he". My avatar is representative. I can't stand mornings, so this is largely my work appearance.

Anyway, I've been writing the IC I just finished all day, but have had to deal with constant interruptions. I can't really comment on any potential plans until I have results from my astral surveillance. Dolly only took a copy of the files from the burner - the Janitor still has the actual phone, so I have assumed that he has viewed the contents. I've posted the contents here so you don't have to PM him with them.

Is little more than a picture of the ring on dudes hand, another pic of the dude, wearing the ring, and a full 3d ARO viewable in trid form via image link of any sort. You could set it to broadcast only to Janitor's commcode if you wanted. It's a nice ring. Platinum. 12 small diamonds in a ring around the edge of a flat fact with a single big red diamond in the middle. Two chinese dragons dual wielding submachineguns are etched, entwining up from the underside of the band and flanking the red diamond in the middle. The etchwork is top quality.

It contains no mention of anything magical whatsoever.

I summarized the research Dolly did in IC, but since she was filling Janitor in on details as they talked, here's the complete results from Poindexter that can be considered IC knowledge.
Quote from: Poindexter

the random 3 houses dont turn up anything unusual. They're all in Krubb controlled slums. As such, they dont have AC and most have the windows open, allowing you to see inside. Nothing out of the ordinary. No wards, no watchers, no magical security.

The seven year old lives with her mother in a nice house in riverside, just off college street near 5 points and the park, firmly within Hermanos territory. There's an astral barrier around three adjacent rooms on the second floor..

The pawn shop on Krubb turf has an astral barrier around a single room, near the rear, as well as a small pack of barghests roaming the grounds. You don't get too close to them, for fear of being spotted.

BOUT THE RING:

You trace it to it's manufacturer, an arab dwarf who lives in Aspen. He's only ever called "Statson" and it seems he's a near legendary maker of jewelry for those truly discriminating about such things. Statson has made chains for famous rappers, crowns and amulets for blockbuster summer action trid costumes, and if the claim on his sales page is true, Lofwyr owns one of Statson's pieces. He doesn't do ANYTHING that costs less than six figures and he doesn't do ANYTHING except commissioned pieces; 100% special orders. He hand makes everything himself and uses only the highest quality metals and stones. As a result, his waiting list is about 3 years long. A 25% non-refundable deposit is required to even get on the LIST to tell him what you want him to make. He doesn't enchant anything whatsoever, he's EXPLICIT about this, but his pieces are so high quality, they would be ideal for enchantment after purchase.

Beyond that, you can't find anything else about the ring itself.

Let's move forward with your plan, but don't commit any serious resources to it until tomorrow. I want to see where he sleeps tonight and try to figure out what kind of security he fields. Might influence our plans some.

So, OOC, what IS the plan? I'm unclear it seems.

In broad strokes, we will provide him anonymous tickets ("This is the Shock Jock from KJKR, and you just WON!") to an MMA fight, then try to isolate him by accidentally bumping in to him so he soils his clothes and heads to the restroom to clean them, then kapow!

Dolly was mostly thinking she'd wait until midnight or so and check all of his known residences to see which one he is at, then see what kind of security he brings with him.

Yes, observe tonight and unless another option presents itself as a result, we proceed with Janitor's plan to lure him to a fight. We'll also make the decision after the surveillance whether we need the face or not, and if so, we'll wait until we've caught him/her up before putting the plan in motion.

A bunch of rolls.
To get home, she will summon the same spirit again.
Summon Task Spirit [Force 7] (http://orokos.com/roll/266754): 13d6t5 4
Task Spirit Resist (http://orokos.com/roll/266755): 7d6t5 3
Resist Drain (http://orokos.com/roll/266756): 15d6t5 5 (vs. 3 hits x 2 = 6)
1 point stun, one service (all she needs) and she sleeps the drain off before midnight.
Later that night, she will put on her sneak suit, summon that spirit again (it will be after sundown, so he will have gone by then even if she had unused services) and use it to fly somewhere remote (probably over the swamps where she was flying earlier in the day while high), and leave the spirit in charge of her body (and constantly moving) while she heads out to check on Slim.
Summon Task Spirit [Force 7] (http://orokos.com/roll/266758): 13d6t5 7
Task Spirit Resist (http://orokos.com/roll/266759): 7d6t5 1
Resist Drain (http://orokos.com/roll/266760): 15d6t5 3 (vs. 1 hits x 2 = 2)
No drain, 6 services.
Stealth (for the spirit as he flies around in Dolly's body)
Sneaking (Task Spirit) (http://orokos.com/roll/266761): 14d6t5 5
Stealth (For me on the astral)
Sneaking Astrally (http://orokos.com/roll/266762): 12d6t5 5
Again, based on Wisdom, this loses a hit if using Intuition, and two hits if using Logic as the base stat.
Assensing checks (one for each residence, starting with the pawn shop, then the nicer place, then the others in whatever order)
Astral Perception (Assensing) (http://orokos.com/roll/266763): 13#11d6t5 5 4 4 2 2 4 4 4 1 3 2...
The 11th roll is a glitch if I get that far before finding him. I expect all the rolls beyond the first one or two are wasted, though.

On the assumption that we are waiting on me to set up my rolls IC, I have posted there. As mentioned, she is starting with the pawn shop then the home of the seven year old, then the others in no particular order (I suppose the home of the 9 year old will be third since she is effectively going in what she guesses is order of likelihood that he will be there based on the information she has). Once she finds him you can either use the subsequent assensing check or you or I can roll another one (possibly with the specifically looking bonus) to gather specific info on his defenses, or anything else that stands out.

Post by: Poindexter on <03-25-15/1654:36>
No, we're waiting on me. Sorry. :(

As far as Dolly's search goes, she finds him in the second place she checks. A four story apartment building on the third floor. It's off emerson, deep in Krubb turf. Small shitty place. It's just him and one other person in there. Both are unawakened. Both appear to be sleeping. This is NOT one of the spots with astral security, however, there are so many other people in the nearby vicinity that without eyes in the physical world, it will be near impossible to tell how many, if any of them are Skim's direct bodyguards.

This time it is me.

I've been trying to put an IC up for a couple days and today I finally had a couple hours to get to it, but realized that it needs to be handled OOC then transcribed to IC once resolved. There are multiple steps and at any one step things can go sideways, so I'll lay them out here and you can tell me what rolls I need and how far I get.

First, Dolly will land on the roof of the building she scouted, and scout it again if she didn't get any info she needs on the first trip. Primarily, she is hoping that the master bathroom in the unit Skim is in has a window, otherwise she'll have to make do with a different window. The plan is to have the spirit possess Skim and trundle him to the bathroom like he needs to pee. While in there, he will open the window and place the ring on the ledge, then close the window and return to bed (after doing his business). While the spirit stays in possession for another minute or so, Dolly will swoop down and grab the ring, pocket it, and fly away. She will use stealth the entire time, and the spirit has stealth as well, though palming would have been more useful for this particular operation should the spirit not have the luxury of privacy in the bathroom.

I'm assuming that I'll need a sneaking to get to the roof and a Forcex2 (vs. Skim's Int+Wil) for the possession attempt.
Sneaking 5 + Agility 4 + Chameleon Suit 2 = 11
Sneaking (http://orokos.com/roll/268579): 11d6t5 2 Horrible. But, the opposition has at least a -6 penalty from Concealment as well as other penalties from lighting and her small size (size might have been a bonus to her roll, I'm not sure). Also, object not in immediate vicinity will also likely apply unless they have a man on the roof, in which case she'll find another nearby roof, but has little choice when it comes to the location of the ring exchange.
Possession (http://orokos.com/roll/268580): 14d6t5 3 Wow, my rolls suck today. Anyway, you might assess a penalty to Skim as he is unconscious, but hopefully 3 hits will work anyway.

No windows in the apartment at all. Shitty little spot in the slums.

So what is the nearest ring sized hole to the outside? I'm guessing he'd have to leave his room. Roof maybe? Outside stairs? Fire escape?

I like this approach for the cool factor (having the mark actively participate in his own robbery), but succeeding here makes the whole milk run pretty short, so I'm cool with it not being doable due to no outside access. Being better prepared could involve tossing it in a wireless blocking baggy, then in another waterproof bag with some sort of tracking chip and throwing it off a bridge or something, though getting the bag to him would be interesting (anonymous package?).

At any rate, I see some fun hijinks if he gets discovered while making his way to the roof (even casual questioning would probably reveal that he was possessed since the spirit would have to default on an impersonation and/or fast talk roll. It'd be entertaining to have him beat up his own guards with 14 dice of unarmed attack and immunity to normal weapons...

He could make it to a sliding glass door out onto the balcony.

Hmm. Need an excuse for going out on the balcony in the middle of the night. Thinking of maybe smoking a spliff, but I'm guessing he'd just do that indoors. And I don't know for sure that he smokes.

Well, screw the reason. Sneaking, man. I'll try having the spirit possess him and have him sneak out onto the balcony, remove the ring, place it on the bannister, then sneak back into bed. I'll sneak down and retrieve it before the spirit leaves his body. Then meet up with Janitor and see about making sure there are no tracking RFIDs on it.

Technically, he doesn't even need to go out on the balcony, just crack the door and place the ring outside.

IC up. Go ahead and let me know what other rolls you want me to make. I'm going to burn another spirit service and have it possess me and take me to the building so that I can use its perception roll to look for physical security.

Perception (http://orokos.com/roll/269869): 14d6t5 7 Mental limit is 7

I don't think I need to roll to check for metahuman auras in and around the suite or to see if the ring is enchanted (information I would have likely had from my first trip anyway), but let me know if you want another roll. If the possession goes off without a hitch, you can roll the stealth check or let me know what Skim's Agility is and I'll roll it. It would be Sneaking 7 + (Skim's Agility if 7+, otherwise Skim's Agility + 3).

Go ahead and let me know what other rolls you want me to make.

To check for physical security around the area using just visuals, gimme any one of these knowledge rolls; Gangs, Security, Sprawl Life, Jacksonville Area, or Street Drugs. The closer to the beginning of the list you roll, the fewer hits you'll need. Also, are you doing this BEFORE Janitor gets there? This type of thing will be easier with more sets of eyes.

Preliminary looksie before he gets there, but no action until he's ready to go.

Jacksonville 1 + Intuition 5 = 6
Looking for lookouts (Jacksonville) (http://orokos.com/roll/270465): 6d6t5 4 [5, 2, 6, 5, 5, 2]
Holy cow, that was pretty good.

At this point, it seems like we've moved past the legwork phase and are getting into the run.

I need to know what all everyone has "active" as it were. This includes astral perception, biomonitor feeds, any wireless stuff you might have going, group comm channels, etc.
Title: Re: [OOC] Honest to god milk runs, Part 2- (Dat one ring)
Post by: Malevolence on <04-10-15/2022:27>
Dolly has Astral perception going. She has no vision enhancements.

She has everything wireless off except her commlink, trodes, and chameleon suit, both of which are slaved to her commlink. The chameleon suit is running silent. Her biomonitor is active on her wrist, but running wireless off.

If Janitor sets up somewhere where she can see him, she will switch everything but the suit to wireless off and try to use hand signals, flipping the 'link and trodes on and silent if they need electronic comms again.

Leaving the commlink and trodes as wireless on assumes that they won't look out of place to a MP check since they are less than 100m up and so their location would appear as if they were in the crowds on the street or in the building. Also, the suit running as hidden assumes that there are probably any number of other hidden devices around so that it won't immediately set off alarms should a casual MP detect hidden devices. Some of these things are handled differently by different GMs, so I just want to make sure we're on the same page.

Ok, help me out here, as I'm still quite hazy on possession. The Loa (Can we name it? Is that even how they work with this tradition?), once it has control over Skim Kid's body, will attempt to sneak out of bed, through the sliding glass door, and out onto the balcony, deposit the ring there, then sneak back into bed, correct?

The possession goes off without a hitch. The un-named loa now uses it's stats and skills for the sneak roll or Skim's? Or does it use a mix of both, like Skims stats, but the loa's skills? Help me out here, eh?
Title: Re: [OOC] Honest to god milk runs, Part 2- (Dat one ring)
Post by: Malevolence on <04-12-15/0144:15>
I haven't been naming the Loa since they haven't had significant roles, but since this is a recurring summon, and it's about to have a significant part to play, I guess I should. Of course, that brings me to the real reason I haven't been naming them - it's complicated. The Loa belong to families, nations, pantheons, and what have you. I haven't quite wrapped my head around it, but we'll give it a shot.

I found a list of named loa here (http://faculty.webster.edu/corbetre/haiti/voodoo/biglist.htm). I'm not sure if you really summon these specifically or if they are the heads of a court of similar, lesser, loa that are summoned. I'm assuming the latter, but I also assume that the lesser loa are unnamed, and for simplicity will refer to them using their master's name. So the sneaky loa that loves the swamps that I have summoned will be Gran Boa. Note that these are Haitian loa, though everything I have been able to find on Louisiana Voudun seems to indicate that the loa names are largely similar, having come from the Fon and Ewe slaves that carried the beliefs from Africa to both areas.

You are correct in the actions it will attempt - however, if it is undiscovered, it will simply crack the sliding door and place the ring on the balcony where it can be snatched easily, only going fully outside if necessary to maintain its cover.

While possessed, the spirit's skills and mental attributes are used, but the host's physical attributes are used. However, if the host's physical attribute is less than the spirit's force (7 here), half of the spirit's force (rounded down) is added to the attribute. It's unlikely that Skim has an agility higher than 7 (not sure if this comparison includes augmentations, but I assume so - at least the ones the spirit can benefit from), so it'll probably end up being Skim's attribute + 3 (for 7/2 rounded down). So, the stealth check will likely be Skim's Agility + 10 (7 for the spirit's sneaking and 3 for the possession bonus). Also, if Skim is inebriated or otherwise negatively impacted by a stun or physical damage effect, the spirit reduces the Wound Modifier by 7 (one point per point of Force). This applies to damage taken both before and during possession, though any damage taken during possession is also applied to the spirit, and it does not negate that. In short, 7 points of WM negation (7 dice, not 7 boxes - basically the equivalent of 21 boxes of damage negation) likely means that Skim will be into the Overflow box before his wounds affect dice pools.

So, summary:
Sneak, run, unarmed: Skim's Agility + 10
eliminate up to 7 dice of WM due to damage Skim has taken - stun and physical
Can access any augmentations that Skim might have that do not require DNI (the rules say "active control", which might also include things such as an adrenaline pump or pain editor). So, bioware can be used, but wired reflexes could not.
Skim is unaware of what is happening while possessed, but the loa also does not have access to Skim's knowledge, skills, or memories.

Sneak out of bed. (Agi 4 + Spirit stuff 10) (http://orokos.com/roll/276031): 14d6t5 5

Is Skim sneaking out again? (Int 3 + Perception 5 + Shitty boxspring 2) (http://orokos.com/roll/276033): 10d6t5 3

So, he's out of bed just fine and into the living room.

Quietly open this shitty door. (Agi 4 + Spirit stuff 10) (http://orokos.com/roll/276034): 14d6t5 6

And wow! He's through the door with ease. IC post incoming.

If One is available, we'll head to meet with him. If not, Dolly is going to leave the loa in charge of her body (as a reward - a night of partying is quite the prize for them) with a promise to keep her safe, then probably try to "sleep" (mentally, anyway) until the loa departs at dawn. She's planning on staying clear of her pad until then (other than going there for a change of clothes before letting the loa take control), regardless of whether they meet with One or not. Whether her or Janitor holds on to the ring is up to him, but if the spirit is in control, it's probably better if Janitor keeps it.

CONGLADURATION!!!

Ya both get 6 Karma for the whole she-bang and you'll both be cycled back into the stable for the next go-round if you so wish. Keep in mind, the events of this game will affect the situation in the next one. For example, both of you may add 1 to the loyalty rating for One67 in your contacts list. Post by: Malevolence on <05-03-15/1508:02>
I had thought to mention that. As a practitioner of a possession tradition, she'd have experience with this sort of thing and keeping the spirit from breaking the bank. So, I'd reckon that she placed all of her money behind a password protected barrier (bank account or on her phone), but she would have left some amount on the credstick for the spirit's explicit use - probably enough for cover at a few clubs, some grub, and a few drinks. I figure (from Run Faster) that a good meal out is 50, though with all the street food, the spirit could likely have a feast for much less (5 per from Fun Faster). I'd clock cover charge at the 10-20 range, and booze, especially as freely as it's flowing, at 5 or so per serving. I think 100 would be a very generous amount for the spirit to celebrate well in this atmosphere normally.

Of note, though, is that this is more of a wilderness spirit. While he has an interest in (meta) humans, since he is summoned for each new priest/priestess, he does not like to be seen generally. Granted, this is a servant of the Gran Boa (and presumably a servant is summoned in his stead in the initiation ceremonies) which may have a slightly different personality, but I suspect that his interaction would be limited (hence my use of "even" when I mentioned his actually participating). It's a contradiction between this particular loa's personality (hiding and wilderness) and the general rule that loa like to "live it up" while possessing. I chose to go with "living it up" means different things to different loa, and in his case he'd be less likely to interact with people, though with a celebration going on and a body to disguise himself, he might be bolder.

I'll roll a d6 and you can choose the multiplier. Considering the festivities and the spirit's general attitude, I think that 120 is high, but I'm fine with it if you feel its fair. We can say she forgot to secure her newly acquired funds, so that the roll can exceed the money she would normally have set aside for the spirit.

Loa celebration funds (http://orokos.com/roll/283584): 1d6 5
Either way, this is gonna hurt...

Everything you just said sounds great.
Let's make the multiplier x50. So the Loa spent the hundred you left it, plus another 150 off the credstick.

cool?

I'm probably just going to sit on it. My lifestyle is covered by Trust Fund.

I'm thinking of perhaps researching a spell formula for Shape [Material], but I'm trying to think of which I should take. Mostly, I'd like to breach walls, so what are most buildings made of? Concrete? Plascrete? Brick? Mostly this would be for gaining LOS, but as she's small, it could just as easily be used for insertion/exfiltration. It works on net hits meters per turn of material and walls have to be weakened at Force Structure per turn before they can be manipulated, so creating an opening large enough for her would take 1 hit and two turns to get through concrete (Structure 12) with a Force 6 casting, and either double the hits or double the time to create an opening large enough for most metas to squeeze through. Being able to create barriers or holes in barriers for shooting also has its value.

I'm guessing slums and older buildings (pre awakening and early 21st century) are concrete while most newer buildings are plascrete, with brick used for decoration and security structures made from reinforced concrete.

Aside from that, I'm saving Karma for Initiation so I can get Channeling, which I think is pretty key for possession traditions.
