Title: best smg

What is the best smg?

Looking at recoil damage accuracy ammo smartlink silencer and legality

Honestly, I'm a big fan of the Krime Spree. Internal Recoil Comp of 1 means that you can go to Simple Full Auto attacks with only a Gas Vent 3 (or an underbarrel weight, electronic firing and an extendable stock). It's a little light on the accuracy, but a personalized grip and a SmartLink will take care of that. It's got a fairly decent clip as well, enough for five of those attacks before needing a reload.

If you want to push for a single point more damage and a little more flexibility in firing modes, go for the Ares Sigma-3. The biggest thing you gain there is another point of damage, all of the firing modes and a 50-round drum. I prefer the Krime Spree because of that sweet sweet internal recoil comp, but you can argue that you can approach it because the standard foregrip can be combined with an underbarrel weight.

If we extend into the strictly illegal SMGs, I think you can argue that the HK Urban Combat is your choice for stealthy SMG and the FN P93 Praetor is your choice for going loud.

Depends, do you want to mod or get one out of the box?

Out of the box the Ingram Smartgun has all you need.

Tricked out I personally like the "Lawgiver"

ARES SIGMA-3
ACC DAM AP MODE RC AMMO AVAIL COST
5 (7) 8P — SA/BF/FA (3) 50 (D) 7R 1,000¥
Ammo skip system Underbarrel 250¥ 8R
Trigger Removal 50¥
Silencer/suppressor Barrel 9F 500¥
Electronic Firing 1000¥

Very silent and able to switch between different ammo types (Subsonic to APDS in an instant)

Ingram smart gun x smart link gas vent 2 and suppressor as stock add folding stock and possibly Foregrip for extra 2 points in Sigma is drum fed so reloading takes a while for suppression only you can go p93 but then it's forbidden also trigger removal means online wireless firing only which can be hackable

The Sigma-3 and Igram are my favorites. I prefer the Ingram for sams. My MysAd face makes great use of a Sigma-3. I should probably take Brand Loyalty for Ares actually.

@Rooks
You can still use a fibre optic cable if you want to avoid wireless

# 1 Ingram Smart X (a classic, best 1 Handed SMG)
# 2 H&K MG75 (German Shadowhandbook)
# 3 Ares Sigma-3
Honorable Mention to the Izom Aphrodite (SR4A SMG with underbarell 1 shot GL)

triggerless doesn't mean only wireless.... you can plug into your datajack (preferably with using a smartgun system, smartlink eye enhancement and an internal router).

Edit: Jack Spade beat me to it while I was typing- must have wired 3 to my measly wired 1

Who reloads in combat?  :P Nothing says you have to go FA or suppression every single pass.

Besides: 50 rounds should last you at least one complete combat round ;)

Honestly, I rarely see over 20 bullets expended in any combat that's not just a meatgrinder. And, if it is a meatgrinder, you probably have time to take cover and swap to a secondary drum.

# 2 H&K MG75 (German Shadowhandbook)

I have that book, could you tell me on what page I can find it? Never noticed it before.

The Ingram Smartgun X, it has nice features for it's cost which is low enough that you don't pull out your hair if you have to ditch it.

Second the Ares Sigma modified w/Gas Vent III, for those times you don't give  drek about noise.

Why isn't this in the gear section? O_o

Nonetheless, I'd go with HK Urban Combat most of the time. When legality is an issue, I have a license for my fists.

Sigma 3 gets my vote. large ammo capacity, decent accuracy, decent damage. stick some hand-loaded APDS in it and trick the shit out of it with your choice of mods and you really can't go wrong

But the most important question is - Hand-Loaded Damage APDS or Hand-Loaded Armor Piercing APDS?*

*This might be a trick question.

HK Urban Combat w/ Handloaded (Armor Piercing) Hi-De Rounds in that nice briefcase handcuffed to your arm with a Fake [ID] and a fake Courier Licence [6] and a Dayjob [1] as an actual courier.

Just a thought.

It is out of Hard Targets, lets you add a 1 to DV or -1AP to an already existing form of ammunition.  Basically, it's taking you making the rounds and modifying them as you do so.

you forgot the tremendous Disadvantage!
They cost 10 % more If you make them Yourself( Treshold 4,6 or 8 with an Intervall of 30 Min per 10 Bullets IIRC and You need a Weaponskit)
or 25 & more If You buy them ;)

I still like the Sigma-3 best, but the Ingram is definitely better for concealed carry since its invisible to normal scanners.

Well if you start w/LOg 6(9) {Cerebral Boosters) and Armorer\Firearms 6\+2 and have 6 Edge you can reasonably expect to get to Level 4 in the extended test to replace the metallic parts of the ingram givg a -4 DP modiffer when the MAD scanner is being used....  mind you, you have to use edge on the first 6 rolls... and hey, you could get super lucky and get to level 5

Why would such a powderhead be out running the shadows instead of raking in easy money in some armory/arsenal somewhere, though?

Tricked out Ares Sigma 3 at chargen, eventually moving to a tricked out HK Urban Combat for Accuracy and occasionally sneaking past MAD scanners.  Although if your character already has any Forbidden gear the FN P93  Praetor has a better Accuracy than the Ares Sigma 3.

Ummm, you can't trick out HK Urban Combat. It's description explicitly says so. You can feed it ammo of your choice, but that's it.

I'm with Hobbes here :)
Rules have to be checked with common Sense too !

I see no problem fitting  a personalized Grip to an Urban Combat
In fact I see no logical Ingame Argument forbidding that.
I wonder what happens if my Char goes to his trusted Weapon Smith and asks him to make him a personal Grip....
I doubt, he'll tell me: "no.sorry, I can't do that ,its forbidden to put such a Grip on this particular SMG. I can put one at any other SMG but not this one...."
 I . Sincerely. doubt. that.

Hough!

I'd suspect the Urban Combat would lose it's non-detectability - although a personalized grip should still be possible.

i always thought that a personalized grip is made of molten /cast plastic (similar to a dental imprint  only with your Hand instead of your jaw)
And  adding Plastic won't change the non-detectability ;)

Maybe it's the resin used for guns that a good chem detector could sniff out?

But seriously - as I wrote - the grip should still be possible to add, just like a sling or an extended magazine.

all this talk about cool weapon mods and stuff is why we need more gear cards,
although if they release new series of those ,
i would ask them to not hire the guy who did the nissan rotodrone art though...
Worst SR5 art ever , and whats worse it was lifted from sr4 i hear.
And whats up with the yellow holograms there?

I would argue for letting you use a custom grip, sling, and extended clips for the Urban Combat, but that is about it. Extra clips are generally not stored on a weapon.
