This thread is for use as a place to handle OOC questions and rolls for the downtime period following the New Beginnings-Horizon game. If you aren't in that game, don't post here.
Karma Awards for the game are 9, except for Snow, who only got 8 because she joined after the business at the Space Needle.

Physical Recovery

Total: 1 day.
Also assuming that edge is recovered.
I'm going to have to give some thought about karma & nuyen expenditures.
-
A few things for Clem:
-If I'm not mistaken, her brand-new shotgun should be available now, unless I misunderstood something.
-With the payday, she will be using the contact she got from the last mission to go under the knife and get a suprathyroid gland.
-If there is enough time, I would like to spend 10 karma on a martial art for Clem (Muay Thai). Not sure on the time factor, so I will let Crossbow rule on that, as well as costs.
-
How much time as passed since the mountain? O'Connor might need to pay rent. He's also planning on checking in on the guns he commissioned.
-
I think that Snow will want to get some training in the cybercombat skill and look at some software upgrades. From what I recall, we received 2K partway into the mission and now 15K?
-
I had 4S and 3P, so my recovery rolls:
body 4 + willpower 4 =8 (http://orokos.com/roll/405601): 8d6t5 1
body 4 + willpower 4 =8 (http://orokos.com/roll/405602): 8d6t5 4
2 hours to get rid of the stun damage (probably during the fligth home)
body x2 =8 (http://orokos.com/roll/405603): 8d6t5 3
1 day to get rid of the physical damage (yeah for Ork stamina).
I spent my karma as follows:
counterspelling 1 (4 karma) (I can use my initiation group to learn this)
illusion specialisation on spellcasting (2 karma) (I can use my initiation group to learn this)
saved (3 karma)
I buy the following:
3000 firewall 6 (primary commlink)
2000 mage sight goggles
180 3 m mage sight cable
1650 Shiawase Kanmushi drone (sensor upgrade to 4, vision enhancement 3)
2500 firewall 5 (secondary commlink)
9330 nuyen in total.
the only thing which can have an availability issue are the mage sight goggles, which are 12R, but I have a talismonger contact and since this is also manatech, I assume he can get that as well.
EDIT: I've also added 600 nuyen to replenish my asthma medication.
-
Crossbow--I'd like to add a "Fast Talk" specialization to Sam's Con skill (2 karma), but this would break the Influence skill group. Am I allowed to do this? (It makes sense to me, since he's had several memorable fast-talking moments...)
I'd also like to pick up a point of Intimidation (4 karma) and Dodge (8 karma), and add a staves specialization to his Clubs skill (2 karma). This would leave me with 1 unspent karma, but should make Sam a bit less useless in combat.
Also, when thinking about gear--I seem to recall that I needed either Image Link or Smartlink added to Sam's contacts if he wants to share what he's seeing with the group. Is that recollection correct? I'm not finding anything definite in the RAW...
-
Thvor, Sam should come train with O'Connor to up his Dodge skill. O'Connor doesn't have Instruction so from a game mechanics perspective he can't help, but it will still be a fun character moment. DODGE!!! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvS6zMThiZU)

Okay guys, we will do this just like the last time, time for some serious roleplay and writing to get your tasks taken care of.
On the subject of healing, I think I am going to take the storyline slower option for downtime healing. Considering the damage that Snow and Bullet Storm took, I can't see a week in the hospital really covering it.
By the time the next adventure starts you will have burned through at least month of living expenses, we will try to keep that simple at this point.
If you want gear, I would suggest a call to fixers, if you want training, start practicing or find a teacher. Clem only needs to make a phonecall to start things rolling with her gland, and she has a call waiting for her to get the fitting for the shotgun.

I'll go one thing at a time, as I don't want to put too much in the same post. Once I deal with the appointments, then I'll role play her finding a teacher for her martial art.

No problem, then it takes me 1 week instead of 1 day. With medical science at the spot where it is in Shadowrun, that should be okay.
By the time the next adventure starts you will have burned through at least month of living expenses, we will try to keep that simple at this point.
I still have 2 months of living expenses (I bought 3 months initially, and we already had one month gone), so I'll add 5500 to get keep it at 2 months.
If you want gear, I would suggest a call to fixers, if you want training, start practicing or find a teacher. Clem only needs to make a phonecall to start things rolling with her gland, and she has a call waiting for her to get the fitting for the shotgun.
I'll call my talismonger contact for the one thing with an R rating. Everything else has just an availability rating, but is legally available, so it's just a question of doing some online checks to see where I can buy it and then going out to buy it.
-
Just a little note to give you all a heads up, obviously you are not operating on the same time frame, so be careful about interaction with other PCs.
Necro, I made two small changes to your conversation, noting that the burn recovery process has removed all of your tattoos, and giving you what should be a clear enough hint that it is Snow that is also at the clinic.
-
Alright, I have sort of worked out my downtime training. I will work it into various IC posts but I have 17000 earned this trip + 4750 saved from generation and 8 karma.
Pay two months for medium lifestyle in shared apartment: 5500
Upgrade Firewall to 6: 3000
Upgrade System to 6: 3000
Upgrade Armor software to 6 and make it ergonomic: 6300
Replace 8 medkit supply packs: 80
Nuyen balance will be 3870
I will work on additional software and hardware upgrades as more money becomes available. I am too much of a wimp to get better armor. I need to bulk up a bit.
Karma:
Add new skills for Cybercombat and Electronic Warfare to Level 1: 8 karma

Yeah, I'm a bit hesitant for Clem to answer O'Connor as I feel this business she has should already be taken care of by the time he wakes up. But on the other hand, I don't want to just ignore another player and stall Necro's RPing.
So if you would allow me Crossbow, I'd like for Clem to answer O'Connor's messages but at the same time write a kind of flashback of what she has done in the past 2 weeks. I'm guessing a week at the most should be sufficient for her to get her new implant, including recovery. Should I assume since she has a specialized contact for bio-implants that there isn't any premium on top of the price quoted in the books?
If you'll allow me, I'll write a whole story about her going to get her new gun, her implant and finding an instructor for a new martial art (which she could find through her fixer contact, possibly at the cost of a favour?).
-
@Mercy
Armor Jacket B/I - 8/6
FF Full Body B/I - 3/1(for factoring encumbrance)
Total B/I -11/7
Snow's Encumbrance Limit (Body x2): 4
So Snow's looking at a -6 to her Agility and Reaction
SR4A Pg. 161 - Armor and Encumbrance
@Crossbow
Since we're all at different points, can you give us timestamps so we can keep it all straight?
-
LOL Well I will just stick with something less until I get my body up. Which may not happen for a while. Darn. I edited my post.
-
Alright, so Clem had ₯35,295 and the ₯17,000 they got from the mission brings her total to ₯52,295
- ₯45,000 for the suprathyroid gland.
- ₯6,000 for the martial art training (and 10 Karma).
Which should leave Clem with ₯1,295. Now she still needs to make rent, which should go up to ₯2,200 once her operation is complete, so she'll be about ₯1,000 short on rent. She'll have to either take a loan or find a job or something to make up for it.
Training for the martial art:
Martial art instruction - Intuition 4 + Agility 8 (http://orokos.com/roll/406037): 4#12d6t5 5 3 1 2 No glitches, but it takes her about 4 months to learn her martial art, which I am sure will overlap with the next run, so I'll make a note on the character sheet somewhere and say it took longer because she had to take a run in the middle of it all ;)
-
Snow will offer to loan Clem the money if she even breathes that she is short a bit.
-
Well, I figured since she won't be done training for about 4 months, maybe she can arrange a half now half upon completion type deal? GM's discretion of course.
-
I can see that improving my ability to contribute is going to be a long and costly experience. The money goes quickly at 6K for one program. The upshot is that I am not terribly much better than I was on the last mission. It all goes as laid out, I will have an improved firewall, and a couple of programs. I will need to improve my Body score at some point or remain very easy to put down, as my armor is limited to 4. Let's just say that Snow has a long way to go.
-
I know it's not much, but we can all pitch in for the medpacks. We're the recipients of them after all.
@HydroRaven: Sammy can also give you some extra money for the rent, as I also have quite a lot left from the first run and since foci and all that need karma to bond (which I don't have at the moment), I'm waiting until the next karma point to buy myself an extra focus.
-
Thanks guys, I appreciate the offer and I'll wait for Crossbow to rule on whether Clem can do a split payment-type deal, because I'd like to avoid writing the situation where Clem has to borrow money from one of her friends ;)
-
Okay, you guys have been busy... :)
Hydro, I am fine with how you took care of things, if any adjustments need to be made, we will revise.
Thvor, feel free to advance your story, a la Hydro, with same caveat.
Necro, be aware that when I said public comms, that means zero encryption. Start talking about criminal behavior and you could get a visit from KE.
Snow and O'Conner's questionable gear and any weapons went back to Seattle through Slade, just everyone else's, so revise that part, you will have been contacted a day or to after coming home to get your stuff.
Still need to check everyone's numbers and stuff, but everything seems fine at quick glance.
-
Alright, I'll edit my post to let O'Connor know Clem took his stuff and is holding on to it for him.
-
How long does it take to train a specialization in a skill? I'm not seeing anything in the RAW. So I'm not sure how long to write in for learning to specialize in fast talk, or Sam's training with his KE contact on the clubs specialization.
Learning Intimidation and Dodge, though, I can roll:
Dodge (currently 3, target = 8 )
Int[5]+Dodge[3] (http://orokos.com/roll/406083): 8d6t5 3
Int[5]+Dodge[3] (http://orokos.com/roll/406084): 8d6t5 6 :o
Intimidation (currently 0, target = 2)
Int[5]+Intimidation[0] (http://orokos.com/roll/406081): 5d6t5 0 bad roll, but no glitch
Int[5]+Intimidation[0] (http://orokos.com/roll/406082): 5d6t5 3
So, once Con starts working with him, Sam can get both skills taken care of over the course of a month.
-
Necro, be aware that when I said public comms, that means zero encryption. Start talking about criminal behavior and you could get a visit from KE.
O'Connor figures the cops are going to do everything they can to avoid getting involved with a gang dispute in the middle of the Barrens. So he isn't worried about mentioning the Azure Fist, but he sure isn't going to call up his contacts looking for drugs and guns on the hospital comm.
-
Just so everyone knows, I'm going to be on limited access for the next two weeks. We're flying out (to Seattle!) this evening, and a few days from now, I'll be on a cruise ship. I'll be able to check in and make some posts via my phone, but won't have access to my chummer file or books. I'll be returning on the 11th.
-
Have fun and try not to get seasick. ;)
-
Sounds lovely Thvor, have a great trip!
-
Is it me or is MM's narrative slowly devolving into Danielle Steel territory?
-
Please let me know if anyone feels it is too much and I will be lots more general. I do not intend to get very descriptive, but I am trying to determine if there is going to be a change of living arrangements in Snow's near future. I was just taking the time to get some RP out of the way.
-
Its no worse than the After-school Special that is going on with Sammy, or the old Samurai drama that played out last time. ;)
I always enjoy the chance to see what you guys come up with in these posts.
Besides, I prefer Old School Jackie Collins. 😎
-
I have no problems with it, I just thought it was funny to point out ;)
-
You wouldn't normally find anything with that roll, but if you are needing to for further badassery, feel free to add it for the narrative Necrogigas, just don't get yourself killed.
-
Just covering my bases. I wouldn't but it past you to go ,"Suprise, there's a ghoul nest in the back you didn't check for." That wasn't a great roll. So there might still be, but at least I tried.
-
I must say it's difficult to write all this. Fun, but difficult. :)
-
By the way, speaking of armor, couple of things.
1) Never expected Snow to need better gear right off the bat, but I also fully expected the team to make sure she had it going into the next one. Also, never expected her to not be shooting from cover.
2) While O'Conner's gear made it relatively intact, his clothing, including armor, would only be considered useful as a post-Apocalyptic LARP cosplay outfit.
-
LOL I could have bought some better armor this time, but it was pointed out to me that my stats do not allow for that unless I want to sacrifice other stats. I will try to save up some karma to improve the required stat so I can get better stuff. Like I said, she is not going anywhere, but it will take her a while to make some of the improvements she needs. I will just try to be more careful next time.
-
@HydroRaven: I'm going to wait a bit with replying on your post, as I'm still on day 1 and since your post happens after Snow wakes up, it's about two weeks later.
@Crossbow: I'm not sure how much you want to continue the Marcus/Sammy conversation, but if we want to continue longer, I might add a timeline in the posts so I can be at two places at the same time.
As to Snow's equipment: I'm used to everybody making sure they have their own. Of course, if for instance a drone gets shot to pieces during a mission, there might be some sort of general funds to replace it. But for hacker programs I've never seen it. Of course, I don't mind to loan some money (I'm saving up for a weapon focus, so I have a third option against spirits).
-
I will just try to be more careful next time.
Here, copy these two lines for insertion into the text of your next, and all future, IC fight texts:
"Snow takes cover behind ________ "
"Snow shoots at ________ "(-2 for firing from cover + _______)
;D 8) ::)
@Crossbow: I'm not sure how much you want to continue the Marcus/Sammy conversation, but if we want to continue longer, I might add a timeline in the posts so I can be at two places at the same time.
I will try and cover things when I am able to do an IC post, which won't be right now, or possibly for a couple of days. If you want to, feel free to carry it forward, he is doing a teenager phase and this girl is a thing.
-
Hey, do not get the wrong idea. Snow is not going to ask for anything and would not think of it. She will play the hand she has and will try to improve it over time.
-
Since Crossbow's gone dark, how about we move forward to the team meeting at the Ice Pick and when the GM returns we can work our way back to the other stuff our characters need to do?
-
I'm cool with that. The team meeting was just a bit of RP-ing anyways, I just thought it would be cool to have all our characters talk to each other at once, since it's been such a long time.
-
Okay, so first off, everyone take a Karma point for the great role-playing and continued posting I have seen during this down time. Thanks for keeping things going.
Second, both because I like the scene you guys have set and because I am still trying to get a solid handle on full-time work+full time school+kids home for the summer, I am going to leave that to play out for a bit, though I would like to set a little direction to the conversation before things completely devolve into small talk, namely the business of formalizing yourself as an official running crew. Whatever that might mean to your characters, may i suggest that topics that should be discussed are types of work taken (including things you won't do and people you won't work for), group funds and goals (are you going to name yourselves?). and anything you might expect of each other. Some tactical and social norms could be settled too (who shoots who, which fixer do you use to find work).
Thirdly on the OOC side I wanted to get your thoughts on where we go next, the last adventure was kind of crappy towards the end, if anyone wants a PDF of the adventure to see how bad it was I will be glad to send it to you, and to be honest I am not at all excited about the idea of taking this group through the next published Horizon book, since it involves essentially moving you all to Japan, permanently from what I can tell. I am not quite sure about dropping you into the the Artifacts series yet, but I will acquiesce if the group wants to overwhelmingly. I was also considering doing some adventures from the Missions campaigns that are based in Seattle, I am not sure how familiar any of you are with those. Looking to pick brains here, so speak up.
-
Okay, so first off, everyone take a Karma point for the great role-playing and continued posting I have seen during this down time. Thanks for keeping things going.
I was one point away from being able to afford initiation, so I took a few specializations this time around. Can I drop the specializations and get that Initiate grade instead?
Thirdly on the OOC side I wanted to get your thoughts on where we go next...Looking to pick brains here, so speak up.
I'm really down to do the Artifacts quest line.
-
I was one point away from being able to afford initiation, so I took a few specializations this time around. Can I drop the specializations and get that Initiate grade instead?
Sure, I assume you are self initiating?
-

Yes, so that's 13 karma for Grade 1 initiation. I'm taking an additional power point and using that for 2 ranks in spell resistance.
-
Purchasing
Item - Price - Availability
Armored Vest - 600₯ - 4
w/ Fire Resistance R9 - 900₯ - 4
Total - 1500₯ - 8
I'd also like to add pyrophobia as a negative quality for characterization purposes/
-
@Mercy: I found optional rules that can help you overcome your armor limit. As they're optional rules, you'll have to confer with Crossbow.
Tweaking Armor Encumbrance
As noted under Armor and Encumbrance, p. 161, SR4A, whenever
a characters Ballistic or Impact armor rating exceeds his Body x
2, the character risks a penalty for being overburdened. If youre looking
for a game with less record-keeping and where characters can pile
on a bit more armor for survival purposes, try one of these options:
Ignore armor encumbrance entirely if a character is simply wearing
a single armor item (even if thats a full body armor suit). Only
apply encumbrance when a character is stacking armor or using a
lot of armor accessories (helmet, shield, forearm guards, etc.).
Allow characters to buy customized armor that is specially-tailored
for their specific bodies (much like how military-grade
armor is fit to each person). Custom-fit armor could either
ignore encumbrance entirely, or increase the armor allowance
to Body x 3.
-
I haven't read any of the missions, so I am fine with either the Seattle stuff or going abroad. I'll leave this to the group.
-
For my character going abroad would be difficult given my background and what we've been doing around that background in the last downtime. I don't mind switching characters if the rest of the group really wants to do that. I have other mages I can dust off (I have a mercenary mage somewhere I can dust off and she has the same talismonger as Sammy, so from an RP perspective, it should be easy).
I've not yet done any missions in Seattle, only about half of the ones from Denver, so those would be fine for me.
Yes, so that's 13 karma for Grade 1 initiation. I'm taking an additional power point and using that for 2 ranks in spell resistance.
You want some extra resistance I assume. I've also added counterspelling to my list of skills, as that was one I was missing.
-

O'Connor's been one shotted by magic too often for my liking. I imagine a physical adept's initiation would take the form of extreme training versus a mage's intense studying or a shaman's deep meditation. To that end, O'Connor is going to enlist Sammy's aid after this meeting.
-

You mean, like stunbolt you and you have to resist. :o :)
Sure, why not.
-
So, Crossbow, about those armor optional rules Necro mentioned....................are you inclined to accept either of them?
-
I'd be fine if those rules applied only to Snow's character, if that helps.
-
If I were to use those rules, they would be universal, but no, I think at this point she just needs to learn to make better use of cover. Spending some money and essence on mods or karma on stats is her way to get better.
Just wondering, is O'Conner trying to get a strrt name to stick, because I kinda like Starlet and we can finally avoid the Sam/Sammy conundrum. ;D
-
O'Connor means it as an insult from one piece of Barren trash to another (former) piece of Barren trash. He calls her that when he's annoyed or angry with her. He's got insult-names for most of the group that he's yet to use. Sam is Snake Tongue, the insult is self apparent. Clem is Termie, in reference to Terminator (I assume that the Hollywood of the Sixth World is just as creatively bankrupt as our Hollywood so is still remaking/rebooting old franchises.) The insult being that while deadly, she's cold and rigid. Snow doesn't have one yet.
-
I think Clem's quip about O'Connor being a convict just stuck, and I don't think she ever used "Bullet Storm" before. Clementine doesn't really have a street name, and I'm a strong believer that it should be other people that choose your nickname, so I'll leave it at that.
But we could think about a team name though. Anybody have any ideas?
-
I am fine with the armor rules as written. Crossbow is right; Snow will need to learn better tactics and improve some stats over time.
Snow is a street name, but it is quite appropriate and she does not mind it. She does not have nicknames for the others at this time. A group name would be nice, but I am not sure. The expendables seems to be a bit too trite, especially since the trideo franchise is currently showing "The Expendables 45".
-
I like The Expendables, but with the movies and all something else would probably be more appropriate. But something in the same vein, like The Handlers or The Surrogates, etc.
-
How about Heaven's Devils (https://youtu.be/mXWy7hcf2pY)? (Yes, I was listening to video game music yesterday... :) )
-
I can get behind Heaven's Devils.
-
Yeah, that sounds like a cool name :)
-
Heaven's Devils is pretty cool, but O'Conor has a few suggestions of his own.
Purgatory's Interned
The Valhalla Bound
-
You know I was joking about the name thing, but what do I know, the last team I ran was called the Babysitters. (internally, they tended to shoot others that called them that)
The team's decker/3rd gun was tween, also, they used the movie quote a lot.
"Don't F*** with the Babysitters."
Jesus and Jayson were on that team.
Anyway, hopefully coming up for air this week, keep the IC moving along, you guys still need to work out any team funds and fixer business.
-
Alright, what do you guys think would be fair for a team fund? To me, 10% of pay seems reasonable. That should reasonably cover drone damage, magic ingredients, bullets, medkits, etc.
-
Ten percent seems fair.
-
Seems fair. Is someone going to bring this up in IC?
-
looks ok to me. As to the names, I'm terrible with names so don't expect much input from me there.
-
@Crossbow
Are you're rolling the Incidence Test for O'Connor's Enemies quality (Runner's Companion, pg. 132)behind the GM screen? I don't even know if you're fully versed on how that quality works.Does downtime count as a "scenario?"
-
@Hydroraven
What part of Seattle is the Ice Pick in?
-
It's in Everett, since that's where Clem lives.

Okay so we have team name submissions from everybody. Technically Hydro hasn't given one, but O'Connor took Clems comment about nameless runners as one. I'm going with that unless, Hydro, you'd like to throw an alternate name in. To move things along IC, let's handle further deliberations here OOC.
Thvor - Heaven's Devils
HydroRaven - The Nameless Runners
Necrogigas - Purgatory's Interned
farothel - The Night Shift
Mercy Merchant - The Guardians
So how about we pick our characters' favorite and an alt. Favorite gets one point and the alt. gets half a point. The top two then go head to head.
Fav: Purgatory's Interned
Alt: Heaven's Devils
-
Fav: The Guardians
Alt: The Nameless Runners
-
Fav: The Night Shift
Alt: The Guardians
-
Fav: Heaven's Devils; Alt: Guardians.
-
Looks like everyone will vote for their own entry, so the alts will decide the outcome. Maybe the Guardians would typecast the group into protection jobs and away from wetwork, data stealing, etc. So my alt choice is Heaven's Devils.
-
Heaven's Devils - 2
The Nameless Runners - 1.5
Purgatory's Interned - 1
The Night Shift - 1
The Guardians - 2
Head to head: Heaven's Devils v. The Guardians
Heaven's Devils
-
Heaven's Devils.
-
the Guardians
-
Guardians
-
Clem is not going to like Heaven's Devils, but HydroRaven does :) Should be interesting playing that out.
-
Heaven's Devils remains my top choice.
-
3-2 Heaven's Devils wins.

After Sam hooks the team up with his fixer, is there anything else for the team to do? It would seem we still have time to kill.
-
Not quite so much, I am hoping that I will be able to come up for air soon. I need to sit down and look at everyone's street cred and notoriety, and i have a couple more downtime IC items I want to get to before we start a new adventure. Is their anything pressing for anyone else that I missed? Please make sure your sheets are updated and ready to post in the new game's OOC thread.
-
Crossbow--as GM, would you prefer one or the others of the fixers Sam listed? or are you planning on just working with whatever we throw at you?
-
Stuff O'Connor needs to do
1. Check with Darrel on progress of mods for the hunting rifle
2. Check with Ulrich on progress of acquiring the machine gun
3. Check with the hobo to get intel on the Azure Fists
4. Initiate
-
I have a couple of things to do
-write a post about learning to counterspel
-solve some things with my brother.
-
Snow is learning from Tommy and having a great time with her new boyfriend.
-

I will work with whatever, though I would advise that you should be using the most trustworthy/best connected fixer you have. You improve your relationship with that guy and you make them feel more confident in you as a group when there is an exclusive relationship. Imagine a Johnson contacting a Fixer that recommends you for the work only to find you double booked, he loses face and you damage your relationship.

You are the subject of one of the posts I need to deal with.
I have a couple of things to do

Good luck with second part, I have teenagers and I am channeling them when I write your posts. :)
-
I don't think there's anything else to talk about, unless you guys want to talk general combat strategy IC.
-
If I recall correctly, O'Connor needs to ask Sammy for some help to get his magic resistance up.
-
He was, but he found her bitchy and condescending at the meeting. So he won't be asking for her help.
-
no problem for me. She would be willing to help out, but she has to know of course. Then I have nothing more to do (except maybe get drunk with the rest of the group) :)
-
Snow is not going to get drunk. When the meeting is over she is going to call her guy and he will take her dancing.
-
... I need to sit down and look at everyone's street cred and notoriety...
FYI, Torley's street cred is 2 (18 career karma); Notoriety is 1 (blandness [-1]+CP [1]+gremlins[1]); Public Awareness is 1.
Other than finishing out his training, he'll spend some time hanging out with Jo Huxley, tell him about the new team, and find out if the socialite (connection:4, loyalty: 3) has any promising leads.
-
I need to sit down and look at everyone's street cred and notoriety
Street Cred: 2 ( 19 Career Karma)
Notoriety: 6 (Addiction +1, Criminal SINner +1, Enemy +1, Bad Rep +3)
Public Awareness: 2
-
for me the numbers are (if I made the calculations correctly):
street cred: 2 (18 career karma)
notority: 0
public awareness: 0
-
For Clem:
Street Cred: 2
Notoriety: 2
Public Awareness: 1
-
Necro, I'll let you take over roleplaying your initiation with her if you want. Just...be gentle, ok? ;)
It's your contact, so I'm not really comfortable take over the character. I'd prefer for you to remain in control.
-
Once again, you guys rock. Thanks for picking up my slack and keeping things moving. I will try and get some IC posts working now that you guys have broken off from the meet.
Things to do:
Con: lots of stuff
Snow: We need to do a thing with the Vory.
Sammy: Establish the new normal for you and your brother (and his SO)
-
Not that Snow has a leg to stand on, given her slutty past, but does SO stand for Slut Other? And, of course, Snow is a one-man-woman now.
-
I assume it stand for Significant Other, or Girlfriend if you will.
-
At the risk of stalling Crossbow, does anyone else have ideas for killing time or recapturing momentum?
-
Sorry, my life's been a bit overwhelming recently; I'll put up something to advance Con's initiation tonight. (BTW, how
evil rough should I be? The RAW leaves it pretty open...)
-
O'Connor has always been someone that's had to learn things the hard way.
-
Okay, hopefully we are somewhat back on track. I will take over the NPCing guys, hope that is okay.
Necro, I like to idea of the pyrophobia, you can swap it out for a draw down of the points for the Azure Fists thing, you can decide how.
-
Okay so I'll add Phobia (Uncommon, Mild) [Pyrophobia] which is 5 BP. The quality Enemy [Azure Fists] is worth 10 BP so should I reduce the value of Enemy down to 5 BP?
-
Very appropriate, I am having trouble stretching the Fists to being worth 5 points at this point when I think about it, not too many left.
-
Azure Fist - Original
Connection - 2
Incident - 5
Membership - 2
Magical Resources - 1
Total - 10
Azure Fist - Drawdown
Connection - 1 (Fairweather contacts are steering clear, not wanting to get caught in the crossfire)
Incident - 2 (No longer have the numbers to throw bodies at O'Connor and defend territory from encroaching rival gangs)
Membership - 1 (O'Connor's been busy)
Magical Resources - 1
Total - 5

What the heck does OP mean?
Also, I think I established the precedent last time about Edge in downtime. Not really a problem in this case, but being able to fire off rerolls for negotiated resale or training seems a bit broken to me.

I know I didn't remember, but in this case I could re-try (you can assense multiple times I guess, or take my time to do it) untill I got the same result. And given that I'm in my own house, it might even be aspected to me, giving me a bonus.
-
I forgot to mention this, but I'm on holiday next week. Normally I should have internet access in the hotel, but I might be a bit slower to react.
-
Who are we waiting on?
Farothel, hope you had a good holiday!
-
I had, although pushing my dad's wheelchair up a hill in 30+ degrees and full sun wasn't always fun.
I think I replied on the thing with my brother and his new squeeze, but I'll check.
-
Everything is in Crossbow's court at the moment.
-
I think I have got to the next morning and am not sure how much farther I can go.
-
Crossbow hasn't posted in over two weeks, and hasn't even been on the site in over a week. I am friends with him on Facebook, should I reach out to him?
-
You can always try. I can only send a PM, hoping he has set the system so that he gets a mail. Although I kinda like the break, as it's quite busy at work at the moment.
-
I had no idea I hadn't done something in two weeks, thanks for the kick in the butt Necro, getting back to it.
In my defense, I haven't been Shadowrun idle, been reading the next adventure, which will be the first Artifacts adventure unless someone is violently opposed. Also, tore up my knee so I have been drugging myself after work for a bit. Finally, and obviously most importantly...Pokemon GO.
Love you guys, stop throwing things.
-
One doesn't need to bust their knees in order to drug themselves after work, Crossbow ;)
-
The Artifacts series: is that the one in Lagos?
If it is, I've done a part of the first one, but it was stopped before we got to something important, so that should be okay.
As a player I really want to finish that one, but as a character It's just going to be difficult to leave Seattle again so soon. We'll have to come up with a solution for that. Unless I'm mistaken and it isn't in Lagos. :)
-
How about Marcus gets busted doing something (non-criminal) stupid with his new lover and has to spend some time in holding while Sammy takes on a job to pay for his bail?
-
Or he could shack up with the girlfriend and tells Sammy in no uncertain terms that he doesn't want to deal with her for a bit.
-
The one from Hydro could be possible. The idea from Necro would be a bit more difficult since he's a minor and Sammy is his legal guardian, which gives her a lot of tools to get him back should she wish to do so. But thanks for the ideas.
@MM: I hope you don't mind my assuming you would pick up. This call would be somewhere late afternoon, early evening (as Marcus had just come from school), so I assume Snow would be awake. If not, Sammy would leave a message saying the exact same thing and you can call back when you get it. I'll leave it up to you.
@Crossbow: I assume that I can get to know her real and full name, or at least the name of her current SIN. I have a middle lifestyle, so I assume that Sammy lives in a neighbourhood where you have to broadcast your SIN. It can be a fake, but at least it's a start and people like Snow can do a lot, even with a fake SIN.
-
Do not mind at all and thanks for thinking to add me into your plot line with Cassie and your brother.
-
O'Connor:No result on either perception check, if there was something you should have found it with that roll.
-
Do not mind at all and thanks for thinking to add me into your plot line with Cassie and your brother.
No problem. Besides, for a matrix search I have to default, so that won't work all that well anyway. To look up a restaurant or something it's no problem (you normally don't have to roll anyways as they advertise), but for a search for a specific person, it's best to use expert help if it's available.
And I'll do the physical part myself. At least, the astral part, as I can track people on the astral. And by starting in my magical lodge, my body is safely behind a ward, just in case.
-
Farothel, give me 3 Astral Perception Checks.
-

the first is a glitch, but I like to get rid of it using edge. I know you're a bit against using edge in downtime, but I believe that if we have to roll during downtime, we should be able to downgrade glitches and crit glitches.
-
How about this, I promise not to punish you badly for glitches, but you still can't use edge.
-
How about this, you don't arbitrarily lock out vital game mechanics while still leaving in the failure mechanics? I simply don't understand the big issue you have with Edge in-between runs. We start downtime with full Edge and it doesn't regen until the start of the next run. It's rather simple.
-
If I were inclined to do anything for downtime, it would be to allow you access to the Edge you had remaining from the previous adventure. The reason I prefer not to is, as I have stated before, I don't like the idea of people using Edge for background stuff (Fencing gear, training), that seems a step too far.
-
That quasi-not-really concession means absolutely nothing. You're running published adventures, and there's usually a few unavoidable big fights towards the end of those. No one's going to have Edge left over unless they got knocked out of a fight early on. Hell, I got knocked out of that last fight early on, and still didn't have any left over.
There's also a huge difference between limiting how Edge is used and locking it out completely. Locking out Edge while leaving Glitches in place, even if watered down, is basically giving yourself license to punch us in the nose while our hands are tied behind our backs.
-
I think I need to weigh in with Crossbow on this question. He is not going to whack us hard while we are on the downtime. If we roll and glitch, it will add to the story line in some way. I do not feel that we are penalized in this.
-
I agree. Since there aren't generally too many rolls during downtime, being able to use a full compliment of edge would be a bit much (imagine Sam using a rule-of-six edge roll on a gear acquisition/price negotiation...:o). This downtime seems a bit more extended than others I've experienced, but that's kind of beside the point.
Our GM has said "no edge during downtime", and I trust him not to abuse us when the dice don't come up in our favor, because he understands that we don't have the safety net that we do during runs. He's been a great GM for the last..what, 3 and a half years?...he's earned my trust.
-
Maybe we can do a compromise. We don't use edge to boost our rolls, but we can use it to downgrade glitches and crit glitches. that way the few rolls we make cannot be augmented, but we can avoid bad luck.
For me it's not really an issue I think, as I only have 2 edge, but I can understand that for others there's a bigger difference.
-
It's not a matter of trust, the rules Crossbow has put in place are inherently unfair. No one else seems to care, so I'll let the matter drop. My objections still remain however.
-
I always thought downtime was the domain of character-building, inconsequential role-playing and possible transition sub-plots, which is why I never bothered with the edge scheme. I honestly don't mind whichever way the group decides and will respect the decision. I understand Necro's concerns however, and would be inclined to stand on his side of the argument purely on the basis of having a weapon against glitches/critical glitches. But at the same time I echo Crossbow's worries about edge making skill and gear acquisition both a breeze and a trifle matter.
So I'll let you guys battle it out and you can consider my non-committing opinion given on this matter ;)

that's why I proposed my compromise, as I hold the same opinion as you do.
-
Can I please get a read on what day it is? I need to have some information about when and where I am to meet the client.
-
Honestly, I haven't got a clue. :) I have been playing pretty fast and loose with time so far in general, and I never really placed a firm date stamp on when things started.
Between that and all the time hopping that happened in this downtime space, I have no earthly idea.
It was probably spring when the rest of the team woke up in the mountain pasture, and I am figuring vaguely that with all the training taking place this time that I will put the beginning of the next adventure somewhere in the third month. As for a day of the week kinda thing, you had your meet on a Friday night and Sammy didn't see her brother till the following Monday, so I guess it is a Tuesday sometime in June? Sure, that will work.
-
Cool. It is Tuesday and my date for the weekend begins on Friday night, perhaps? Is this a planned event for you or something for me to make up and go with? I am fine with either.
-
Just getting you caught up on your responsibilities as a Made (wo)Man. I will probably be looking to start the next main story once I get Necro's stuff dealt with.
-
OK. So, unless I mistake you, the weekend thing is just fluff and not something you are going to develop. I am fine with that. I can throw a bit of fluff out to cover the experience. Are you going to do anything about the Cassie thing or is that fluff as well?
-

And if I have to roll something to get my brother to talk about his love, please let me know. As an actress I should be able to pass this off as sisterly concern for his well-being, and teens in love will talk about their new squeeze given the slightest encouragement.
-
Don't advance the clock that far, Mercy, I want to try and get everyone on the same time before we start.
Sammy will not have a problem getting Marcus to talk about Cassie once that sitdown occurs. He just won't be able to give her anything useful about his girlfriend.
-
I am ok with waiting. I was just wondering how far we should go towards this and hoping that whatever you plan still allows me to do the weekend thing or my bosses will be mad at me.
-
I'll be on holiday from the 25th of August until the 30th for the Discworld convention in the UK. While there will be internet in the hotel, I'll be too busy to actually use it and also, typing on my phone is quite difficult. Since we're in downtime I don't think it's a bit problem if I'm not there for a long week-end.
-
Enjoy your trip!
-
Have fun.
-
I have physically broken the computer that all of my shadowrun files are on. I am currently typing this message on my phone, which i am ASTOUNDINGLY bad at.
I will check in when things are taken care of, but shouldn't be too long.
-
Dare I presume you broke this computer in a fit of rage and despair, or would it be something more banal as tripping over the power cord?
-
Sounds like a critical glitch when trying to mod it for hot sim. 8)
-
I'm back from my trip to the UK, but don't expect much as I still have a lot of sleep to catch up on.
The convention was great, although I spent much of it in rehearsal for a musical (Witches Abroad for those who know the book) we were doing the last day. I was stage manager and I should have read the job description before accepting the job, as it meant that the day itself I was running the show (talk about stress). But it all worked out (or so the spectators told us). In the words of one of the actors: we got away with it. :)
-
Welcome back. Been quiet. Glad you had a good time.
-
Okay, I am back, finally unfutzing my daughter's old laptop, and having torn a meniscus in the mean time.
I would like to close down these threads and start the new ones if no one has a problem, any objections?
-
No real objections, but in the interest of not having plot lines just vaporize, if they are truly not to be continued, I would like a short wrap-up to indicate that the man was thoroughly pleased and so are my bosses. Of course, if this is a part of the next chapter, well, that is different and I will happily continue the plot line.
-
The same for me. I can start the next mission, but I want to make sure the plotline with my brother is, if not solved, then at least at a natural stopping point. And also, if we're going to leave Seattle again, we'll have to find a way to work around this background element.
Also, as an FYI: I won't be online from the 9th of October until the 3rd of November, as I will be in Indonesia floating around on the ocean and there's no internet coverage there. So that's a quite long time I can't participate. :(
-
Maybe some form of wrap up with the shaman, but otherwise I'm more or less ready to move on to the next run.
-
Sam doesn't have an open storyline at this point, so I'm cool with moving one once the others' lines are wrapped up.
...also, Indonesia? Wow.
-
I'm cool with moving forward as well. I just need to know how many weeks have passed since, just as a reference point for Clem's martial arts training.
-
...also, Indonesia? Wow.
It's a very nice country for diving and not as expensive as some other places.
I do hope to finally see a whale shark. For such big beasts they are quite difficult to find. I've seen more 3-5 mm small pigmy sea horses than whale sharks. Of course those are more difficult to take pictures of.
