After the meeting broke up, Sam drove over and parked near Green Lake Park. He walked slowly down to the lakeside and waited. It didn't take long.

From behind him, a voice said, "Nice of you to come here again, Paul." He hadn't heard her approach, but then again, he never had any other time, either.

He turned and smiled. "Sarah, you know I don't use that name. Can't you call me Sam at least once?"

Sarah Barefoot stood, as she always did, about five feet away from him. Her clothes were natural, very closely resembling the clothes her people had worn for hundreds of years. The amerind woman's eyes twinkled in quiet mirth, but her face remained calm. "The land does not appreciate dishonesty, Paul. You should know this; I've told you often enough. Those who cannot accept the truth of the world--or of themselves--willingly blind themselves to everything around them. But," she paused, surprised, "I see that your eyes are beginning to open. Come, tell me what has brought this about."

The two of them walked slowly around the lake, while Sam told her about waking up in the wilderness, surrounded by strangers, and the adventures he'd had since then. When he mentioned the Club and Lyra's explanation of his abilities, she nodded in understanding. He didn't talk much about his relationship with Lyra since then, but he suspected she guessed most of it. When he'd finished, he turned to her. "Sarah, one of the others in the group thinks there's something magical happening to him. He asked if I knew anyone who could help him figure out what it is. He's...not an easy person; he used to run with a gang, and probably served some prison time--probably less than he should have, in all honesty. He's damn good at what he does, but I can't predict what he'll do in most situations, other than he seems to revel in taking the most violent way out of any situation. I can't guarantee that meeting him will be safe--but will you?"

Sarah tilted her head upwards, breathing out and in slowly, eyes mostly closed. Finally, she looked back at Sam. "The wind has tasted his presence around you; the sky and the earth understand, and they will protect where you cannot. I will meet him." Then she smiled, "Really, Paul, you worry too much. Just give him my comm code and I'll see what I can do."

OOC: Sarah Barefoot spends much of her time in or near the park and is very grounded in the shamanistic traditions of her ancestors, but is actually reasonably connected to the modern world, and enjoys many of the modern conveniences. She prefers native dress, but wears more "normal" clothing regularly. She is honest with herself about these contradictions, so she doesn't suffer from the self-deception that she feels would block her magic (and which she believes has hampered Sam).

Here's what I'd written in my character file about her:
Quote
Sarah Barefoot is an Amerind shaman that Sam met during a Run. She's fairly young and attractive, and the two of them have remained in touch. Although Sam has taken her to dinner once or twice, neither is actually interested in dating the other.

Necro, I'll let you take over roleplaying your initiation with her if you want. Just...be gentle, ok? ;)

O'Connor got Sam's message with a comm code for a Sarah Barefoot, *Torley did say she was amerind. Maybe whatever answers she comes up with will involve peyote or shrooms.*. He called the woman, <[Comm-call | Recipient: Sarah Barefoot] "Hey, the name's O'Connor. Torley gave me your number, said you could help me with this thing going on with my adept abilities."

Snow rises with the others as the meeting comes to a close.  "You all have my comm code, so please contact me whenever you need to, if even if you just need to talk.  Sammy, I can understand issues with younger siblings.  That is why I am here, actually.  I was very close to my little sister but she lost focus and lost her way somewhere.  She started acting out in some form of rebellion against the family and, well..............the short version of what I am trying to say is that I can talk to your brother if you think it might help.  Give me a call if you need to, or if you just want to talk about rebellious siblings."

She waits outside for Andrew to pick her up and is gratified by how his face lights up when he sees her.  She slides into the car and kisses him, not caring who is watching.  "God, I needed that.  And I need you.  I may be completely non-functional around others, but you make me feel like I can do anything.  Have I told you lately that I am sure I am in love with you?  If not, consider it said.  Now, you said something about dancing?  I have to warn you again that most of my dancing has been of a different style."

Crenshaw smiles as he returns the kisses and nods as he pulls out into the street.  "Wow, I am the luckiest guy on the planet."  He drives to a small club with a blazing neon sign out front declaring the establishment to be "The Roundup", parking in the lot opposite.  The twang of country music can be heard from outside as they walk to the entrance and it gets much louder inside.  Snow walks into a different sort of world.  Many of the patrons are dressed in traditional western clothing and the dancing is something she is completely unused to.  Andrew introduces her to some nice people that seem able to look beyond her race and help her with some quick lessons.  The evening is actually quite fun and time passes quickly.  Snow makes it quite clear through her actions that she is with Andrew, and does her best to show him that she is having a good time in his company.  At the end of the evening, she leaves the club with new friends, new dance skills, and an appreciation for country music.

With all the main points settled, Clem was satisfied with the team meeting. Although she felt strange calling herself a member of the Heaven's Devils, she liked the idea of belonging to a team and being able to get the group recognition for future jobs.

Leaving at the same time as the rest of the team, the ork bowed to everyone else before getting on her bike and driving away. She wanted desperately to go to bed, as tomorrow would be another gruelling training day.

"Maybe later, Snow," Sammy said, "I doubt he would want to see one of my gutter-trash runner buddies, I believe he called you.  But thanks for the offer."
She went back home so she would be well rested the next day for some more training at the club.  And she would take Marcus out eating the next night.  She also made a mental not to check out the Cassie girl in the astral next time she saw her.

Sarah responded, telling O'Connor to meet her at Green Lake Park at sunset the following evening. As the sun was sinking, she sat, cross-legged, near the shore of the lake and called out mentally to the spirit who had always been there, watching over her. A man comes to meet with me soon. He is an awakened warrior, concerned about his powers. Search him when he comes; find out what is causing his concern, so that I may help guide him along the path. With a wry afterthought, she added, And protect me if he tries anything funny.

O'Connor grimaced at having to go Downtown, but agreed since his only other option was Sammy lecturing and talking down to him. His lack of prison tats was going to be a blessing in this instance. Also to keep himself from drawing attention, he decided to forgo his signature studded jacket. Instead he wore a dark green t-shirt, with his new armor vest and form fitting half body suit beneath, faded blue jeans, and a grey hoodie.

He arrived at Green Lake Park as the sun dropped below the skyline. He left his guns in discreet places throughout his car, but kept his knife in his boot. He started scanning the area for the woman, *Bringing me all the way out here, this chick better break out the hallucinogens and stuff any shaman-y dancing and chanting.*

Sammy is able to do her training at the Club, but has to wait until MONDAY night before she sees her brother again.  Marcus and Cassie roll into the apartment, they seem surprised to see her, and immediately Marcus gets tense, but Cassie is pure cool, coming in and making herself comfortable.

“That is a really nice school you got Big Markie into Sis, hope you don’t mind I gave him a ride home, I was kinda hoping he would return the favor later.” her pale skin shows no hint of color changeas she smiles at the innuendo, though Marcus blushes furiously.

Sarah is not difficult to find, she is waiting by the water, back to a tree that is near enough to a park bench to facilitate conversation.  When she sees O’Conner, she covers the tray of the food she is eating and smoothly rises to her feet to meet him.

“Hello again, this time in the flesh, our mutual friend mentioned your capabilities, and anyone with The Sight can see your potential, so what are your questions?  Or would I be rude to call them concerns?”

O'Connor shrugged, "I'm not really concerned, more like confused. There's something up with my Powers. It feels kinda like back when I was a kid and developing them. The difference being that when I was a kid it all came to me by instinct as my Gift grew. This time around it feels like It's waiting for me to do something."

"It is, you are gaining power, but an Adept must have a focus and you seem to lack that.  You mention some instinctively aligned power, can I assume based on our friend's description of you that your power set is combat oriented?  You seem a person who has been through wars, your eyes are both crazed and world weary, I would assume that you should seek to better yourself as a combatant, unless you want to leave behind the violence and seek a path of calm and peace."

She seems perfectly at ease discussing O'Conner's violent nature.  She definitely has that maddening lack of fear, at least of him, that he seems to be seeing in the face of every spellslinger he has encountered.  Why shouldn't she?  His record against folks like her is an embarrassment.  He would really like to see a little fear from their kind.

O'Connor nodded and grinned, "Yeah, both my reflexes and reaction speed are inhuman. I can juke and weave my way through hails of gunfire." He barked out a laugh when she mentioned calm and peace, "Lady, I've left mountains of corpses and oceans of blood in my wake. Calm and peace are things I'll never know, even after I'm dead. If there's a Hell, I've reserved my place in it." It didn't take him long to figure out what he wanted to focus on, "I'd definitely like to be able to withstand magic better. You OP, cheating bastards have gotten the better of me too many times."

Snow and Crenshaw enter the apartment, noting that Tommy has already gone off to bed.  She lets Andrew drag her off to their bedroom, a bit surprised at his newfound ability to be forceful where she is involved.  The two of them make love like it is the first time, falling apart after exhausting themselves before coming together again to sleep.  In the morning, she wakes up looking at the face of the man she cannot help but be in love with.  Sighing, she sits up, tosses a robe on, and goes to use the bathroom.  She also sends a message out to her Vory contact.  >>It is Snow.  I am nearly healed.  Do you have orders for me?<<

"As long as you keep the noise level down," Sammy replied, "there are things I really don't want to know.  And that Marcus makes his homework.  Now, where have you been the whole week-end?"
The last question was asked more concerned than angry, but she felt the need to know.  While talking she also opened her second sight and assessed Cassie.

"Well then, if you seek to forge armor, you must be willing to face the fire..." the flicker of reaction that comes over O'Conner is almost unconscious but is definitely uncontrollable, a sensory memory of burnt meat and pain that put's him on a razor's edge of fight or flight.

''...so to speak.  Are you willing to endure such for the benefit you seek?"

The shaman's empathy is clearly visible on her face as she asks him to become a magical punching bag.
