Title: [IC] Into the depths
Post by: SeriousOne338 on <10-02-12/1627:20>
The offices for Random Encounter Inc. are based out of an old industrial complex on the north end of Puget Sound on the water. The complex comprises of a 5 story main office building with attached 10 car garage where the company vehicles are located, a detached air hanger where the company’s C-130 is located and a two other small buildings that are mechanical buildings. The complex is located 10 miles away from Stanwood WA, and right next to an old airfield that the company leases for use.

As you approach the gate Mike & Josh the usual security guards meet you Mike walks up and checks you’re ID “Hell it must be Monday again let me do the security check and you’re on the way”

While Mike prattles on about the new security measures Josh does the usual sweep of your vehicle and waves you past. Inside the complex you part your car in the usual spot and head into the office building as the usual northwest weather starts up. As you walk in pass the automated secretary “Barbra” your comlink registers a business meeting for 10am this morning, under which it reads bring your toys we got a job. The office is abuzz with the usual sounds you have an hour until meeting time. What do you do?

Any gear you bring is ok, the guards are sweeping for “enemy” things. Also Your work Day lasts from Monday until Friday usually, so don’t expect to go home. And bring your running Kits.

An unusually loud buzz echoes through the rather spartan room. Lurking Crow opens his eyes, shifts to one side of the bed and reaches for his commlink. 6:05. "This ruckus will give me a headache one day" he thinks to himself, before pulling himself out of bed. After a quick minute to get his bearings straight, he sits down on the floor and does his morning rituals to the Raven, the same rituals he's been doing for over a decade now. As difficult as mornings can be, these rituals always calm him down. This might be the only part of the morning Lurking Crow enjoys.

After getting ready, putting on the company armour, making sure one of Random Encounters' walking billboards looks presentable in public, he heads to Puget Sound. A quick command lets the car drive itself while he quickly looks at the morning news through AR.

Once on the compound, a quick smile to Mike & Josh upon seeing them is all he can manage at this early hour. "Hell it must be Monday again let me do the security check and you’re on the way" says Mike. "Do what you have to do, I know I wouldn't hold back against you guys if the chief ordered me to." is Lurking Crow's usual reply. As soon as the security measures are over, he quickly parks the car in its spot, heading for the front entrance.

Passing through the reception area, his commlink lets him know there's a meeting in about an hour. "Job offer first thing in the morning? Must've come through the weekend." With that, he heads for his locker, grabs a company duffelbag and stuffs his gear in it, making sure to keep what's most important to him on his person (namely his shamanic items). After double-checking everything to make sure it's all in order, he heads to the conference room, taking a comfortable seat and waiting for the rest of the team to show up.

Flak was never able to get use to the morning thing as his alarm wakes him for 7pm. He got on his work suit and armor vest on and than would slide on his sword scabbard onto his back. The scabbard looks more like a pool cue bag, all he needs to do is unzip and be able to pull out his sword if needed. He moves out of his Downtown apartment and into the parking lot where his bike stands ready. Flak climbs onto his bike and heads to a drive thru where he can get some sort of real food, whether it was bad or not, as long as it was no soy. He was kind fo happy that he developed an allergy for it, but it's hard to find what to eat without spending a little more, but he always thought to himself, it's  well worth it.

He pulls up to work, going through the usual security, giving the nods to everyone he comes across that greets him....which is not many. His stubby legs get into the main building where he looks through his messages, he read 'Meeting' and thought to himself, This can get interesting hopefully. He breakd out his real breakfast sandwich and container of water as he goes through the security updates and hangs around close to the meeting room. He saw Crow's vehicle but he'd figure he's bump into him sooner than later.

Morning. I hate mornings. Why does it have to be so early?

Meat went through the motions of his morning routine. Showering and eating his usual un-flavored Soybar on the way out. There was little joy in the morning commute as well. Packed streets, unruly bus passengers, and the bland music that was only barely audible. Upon getting off at his stop, Meat was harassed by Mike and Josh, just like every other morning. He listlessly went through the security checks just like every other morning while waiting for the okay to proceed into work.

Just like every other morning.

Walking through the complex, Meat pondered the use of this job. Sure, he was good at it, but he still wondered why he settled for this job, instead of a better paying gig.

Because you're a Troll. Remember?

Sighing, Meat checked his commlink. Apparently there was a job first thing on a Monday. At least it would be more eventful than last week. It was nearly more than he could bear, doing nothing but play AR games all day. Opening his locker, which was on the end, since it had to be specially ordered and installed to fit his Troll-sized gear, he silently packed two duffel bags with his gear, making sure to pack them correctly, since the company had yet to provide him with bags that weren't "purse-sized handbags".

Walking to the meeting room, he didn't bother to acknowledge anyone on the way. They usually let him know if they had the time to talk to a Troll. Otherwise it was an exercise in futility, since most people considered him an incompetent lackwit, and treated him as such.

Spirits forbid a Troll be smarter than Kelly. Stupid fat bitch.

Setting his bags down and leaning on the wall (since there weren't any troll-sized chairs, and the boss looked down on sitting on the table) Meat settled in for the fifteen minute wait until the Meeting was supposed to start. He amused himself with figuring out just how much C-12 would be needed to level the ACHE, if he only had access to the sub-levels. He knew the answer, but he had never limited himself to just the sub-levels before. It proved an amusing diversion.

The meeting room is on the first floor next to the armory, and onsite barracks. Like most things in the building the room is old, but retro fitted with new tech a tri-vid projector and sound system. As you walk in you see the CFO of Random Encounters INC. Marshall WaterOak talking to a Human man in a suit wearing a visitor badge on it reads “The Man with no-name.”
Marshall the CFO is a burly Troll dressed in worn dented but clean set of Company armor, his custom Ruger Warhawk in its holster and like usual wearing a blue tie. Over the weeks, months, and years you’ve known him he’s Ex-Salish military from the enlisted core, a Master Sargent at arms. He expects the best from his men but always backs them if something goes wrong.
The Man with No-name is 5’10” Dressed in a dark forest green suit,  and shows some signs of cyberware, namely a datajack under his left ear and what looks like some sub dermal wiring on his left hand. His eyes are multi-colored that shift erratically, and his hair is a snowy white. First impressions are he’s not quite human maybe hes something different.
As the team arrives Marshall says take a seat and open up your pre-mission briefing packet. Then he gets back to nice talk with the Man, the conversation runs along the lines of firepower rates, and how the units are known for discretion and won’t talk about jobs they’ve done. The Pre-Mission Document has some basic maps, of the Northern Amazon on it, and a more detailed map of Pereira. Also spec sheets on local militias in the area and military forces.

Once the group arrives Marshall turns and faces the group.
“I have two bits of news, one is bad. Your fourth man is not coming Digit got shot in a gang drive by last night in the barrens. He’ll be missed, but we have a pressing problem all other teams are deployed in the field and I have a rush job. This is our employer’s man, the detail of who’s hiring us is confidential, that is eyes only access,” Which you all don’t have access to. “Everyone meet Operation: AmmoDump, unlike its name there is no ammo that we’re moving. Everyone turn to page four of the op document.” The Tri-Vid projector starts up at a signal from Marshall’s comlink, it shows the map of Pereira, Colombia. “According to local news feeds this city is a place of peaceful bliss, that is a lie local media has been blacked out for the past 3 weeks and the city is under martial law. Your task is to investigate two recent terrorist attacks, one at a teocalli” an image pops up of a Mayan Step pyramid in downtown sector. “The other is an AZT security barracks. You'll arrive vid the airport with our C130 and a single company Transport, your cover is security for international Aid. You’ll be transporting boxes of MRE’s use them as barter with the locals to get information. Your Job is to find out who or what is responsible for these attacks. Once that is done you’ll rendezvous with the transport and fly home. Any Questions?”

Ympulse the answer is 42 Bricks of C-12

Post by: Ympulse on <10-06-12/0207:00>
Listening to the briefing, Meat was unsurprised that the area was in Media blackout. Hell, it was surprising that there was media coverage in that area at all, given it's volatility. The Amazonian conflict was notoriously fluid in where the official lines were.

"Any Questions?"

"Are we weapons free if we run into a kinetic situation or are we ghosting?"

Meat didn't want to be put in a situation like this one without knowing exactly what his Rules of Engagement were. Especially with the team being a man down. Being in the area was bad enough, but if he couldn't lay waste to a band of mercs that decided to shoot him first, well. He was just going to be plain unhappy about that.

Of course the answer is 42. I should've known!

As he gets into the conference room, Crow nods to Marshall. He silently sits down, smiles politely to the Johnson and looks into the astral, long enough for an assessment of their employer.

Assensing 4 + Intuition 3 (7d6.hits(5)=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3723715/) Dang! Reading him like an open book.

Just as he finishes his assensing, Flak walks into the room. "How was the weekend, Flak?" asks Crow. "Hope you had plenty of rest 'cause by the looks of the PMDs, we'll need our passports."

As soon as Meat enters, Lurking Crow goes through the same drill of chit-chat. Crow asks him, "Manage to stay out of trouble this weekend, big boy?" with a sly smile. He knew Meat could sometimes be self-conscious about his metahumanity, which only served to fan the flames of friendship. As much as he enjoyed teasing Meat, Lurking Crow knew that more than once the troll had saved his life and vice versa. At the end of the day, Crow trusted the other members of his team with his life, and they knew they could depend on him in times of need.

When Marshall started the briefing, Crow thought it strange that Digit was absent. It was very unusual for the runner to miss a briefing. Even injured, he always managed to somehow make himself present, either by dragging himself out of his hospital bed or through the matrix when his condition didn't permit it.

"I have two bits of news, one is bad. Your fourth man is not coming Digit got shot in a gang drive by last night in the barrens. He’ll be missed, but we have a pressing problem all other teams are deployed in the field and I have a rush job." The sentence was like a cold shower to Lurking Crow. Although he didn't show his emotions physically, his aura definitely had the stench of sadness and regret. "You'll definitely be missed, Digit." After this short lapse, Crow got back to listening to the briefing.

"Any Questions?" asked Marshall. "Just one at this moment" says Crow. So we are to find out who is responsible for these attacks. What are the Rules of Engagement?

"Are we weapons free if we run into a kinetic situation or are we ghosting?"

" Good question, we will follow SOP code B. Return fire only, lets keep the body count to a minimum that being said, don't come home in body bags. Make'em if need be. As for mission perimeters find who's responsible find the info, any proof and get the hell out of there the city is  a powder keg we've already lost a good man today I don't want to add to the body count."

The gruff aging dwarf follows the team inside the meeting room, Crow speaks to Flak and turns his head to him as he sits down, "I was looking forward to a vacation, drek!" he replies sarcastically with a small dwarven grin. He eyes the guest that's in the room, sizing him up a bit and snorts.

Judging Intentions... (6d6.hits(5)=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3723740/) Judging intentions on the man with no name.

Marshall starts his thing as Flak lays back against the chair, a bit taken by the sudden lost of a team member, but he was used to it being in in different security outfits and running teams. He trudged on by flipping through the AR pages a bit, giving a glance over. Once Marshall answered Meat's and Crow's questions and decided to go with one of his own.

"Atzlan doesn't have it's own policing procedures?" he was flipping through the document to find that answer if so, "Also, are we touchdown in Pereira directly, no traveling from a distance on ground to get there." He looks to see what Atzlan's martial law is like, if that's in the document. If he sneaks out for a looksy, he'd rather be prepared for anything.

"Atzlan doesn't have it's own policing procedures?"
Normally air tight but with the recent attacks they're down on the man power expect holes in coverage and in the chain of command. Combined with our "humanitrian aid" which we do have legal documentation for, signed by an Aztlan Exec."

"Direct flight in, no weird trip this time. Unlike the Chicago job a month ago you'll be dropped at the airport with your vehicle, but due to the unrest our C130 will only drop you off then head off station to an airfield in the Caribbean League his response time will be 2 hours when signaled for pickup. Weapons are part of your documentations so don't worry about concealed carry. "

Judge intnetions: He's an uplevel wageslave thats been sent for this task, probably knows little to nothing about the goal of the mission. As for who he works for, you notice some tell tale signs of Mega Corp. Not sure which without a knowledge roll

As for his Aura: Cyber implants, datajack high grade perhaps delta, he has a smart link and retractable bone spur. As for race Human you got that flat out but he's been through the SURGE

Nodding at the information given, Meat straightens and pushes himself off the wall. He didn't like the idea of going in undermanned into the Azzies' stomping ground, but since the job wasn't to go in and start a fight, Crow and Flak could likely get the job done without needing any fire support. At that he made a mental note to make sure he had a copy of Miracle Shooter(tm) local on his commlink. He also planned on putting some itch powder in Crow's flight suit.

Flipping through the AR briefing packet, Meat noted a lack of troop disposition in the briefing.

That's NEVER good. It'd be nice if No-Name could get us at least satellite images

"Understood. Is it possible to get current images from overhead on the area while we're in-flight? I don't like not knowing where the shooters are."

Listening to the briefing, something strikes Crow. Do we know if these two attacks are related? And have the terrorists made any demands?" In his experience working for RE, terrorists don't usually attack a target for the sake of carnage. There's usually a message or some form of request involved.

"Understood. Is it possible to get current images from overhead on the area while we're in-flight? I don't like not knowing where the shooters are."

"I'll see what we can do, if all else fails we can set up a company drone on over watch," says the Man with No Name.

Lurking Crow reviews the area maps one last time, gets up and says "Alright, I think I got it. Now, if you don't mind, I have a few last preparations to attend to" to the rest of the room. He then exits, heading to the company armoury to get himself one of those subvocal microphones. Once he's done fitting it properly, he'll rendez-vous with the rest of his team at the airfield, trying to commit the maps' details to memory before departing.

As the meeting wraps up final documents are uploaded to your comlinks as you head out the briefing room door. The main documents are listed as the pay scale, the motor pool vehicle requisition, and the location of a local safe house.

++++++ Company  Memo 195 Operation; Ammo Dump +++++++
Pay Scale:  12,000 with an additional 6,000 hazard pay if you see combat. *a small part of you thinks hey when have we ever not seen combat on these missions*
Motor Pool Requisition: Hummer loaded with 5 cases of MRE’s ( http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/121426/121426,1251658074,1/stock-photo-isolated-army-hummer-36175999.jpg )
Safe House: An unused hanger adjacent to the airports tarmac.

Those that go into the armory are able to go through old scrap bin of parts should they need some new upgrades. These are in the scrap bin so they’re old beat up and bulky but should do the job. Also the quarter master has you sign out the 5 cases of MRE’s plus 50 gallons of additional fuel for your Hummer.

In the motor pool you find the Hummer it’s a standard company vehicle with a three large Random Encounters INC. logos one on the hood, and the others on the doors. Now comes the part that you as a team either loves or hates, each company vehicle has an assist “AI” (not a real AI but something that’s near sentient.) the one that keeps getting issued to your group is Merlin. Once the vehicle heats up Merlin comes on line “good morning team 5, I see your down one member, correct my condolences on Digit’s passing.  How may I be of assistance? Shale I run system diagnostic? Arm system’s turret?”
(There is a single exterior turret on the roof armed with a stoner MMG, WARNING because Merlin is not an actual AI he perceives all no company personnel as enemy targets and has been known to shoot at anything that moves.)

Crow takes the driver’s seat and says no to Merlin’s help with driving the last time that happened he nearly pancaked Meat with the hummer. Meat takes the back seat and lays out his ordnance in case of a firefight, while Flak takes shotgun. Crow drives the Hummer out of the motor pool across the complex and out the front gates. Out on the tarmac the company’s C130 sits idling, it takes about ten minutes to load up and locked down
The pilot comes on the open comlink with a slight Aussie accent “This is your Pilot speaking Pigeon, we’ll be going through our final safety check. In the event of a water landing you’re all screwed so there yeah we’re done. Flight time is about 6 hours so sit back and relax” 6 hours  23minutes, 1 MRE and 3 pee breaks in the small aircraft head and Pigeon comes on the speakers again. “Right we’re inbound on final approach, if you look out the right side of the aircraft that’s an RPG I just dodged seems the locals are frisky.”
During final approach the C-130 rocks and jumps as small arms fire tries to takeout the massive aircraft, Merlin deciding to help with the mood starts playing Staying Alive. Soon the bullets stop zipping by and you’re on the ground but merlin keeps up with the music. Twenty minutes later you’ve unloaded in the field operation base. With a quick good bye Pigeon and his C-130 takes off and heads to the Caribbean League airport off shore and out of the Hostile area.

So there are some things you can do on the airfield :
-   There is a small Aztland Defense force there you could question
-   Start off for the Barracks attack
-   Or the Step pyramid
-   Get lunch at the airport.

Flak rubs his temple as he remembers the many hazards of Merlin, he ain't magical for one thing when it comes to assisting. He was pretty decensortized when it comes to combat and situations he can't control; being around for as long as he has, has helped. The music faded in the background for him when Merlin, good ole Merlin, try to help. He had his sword sheathed with the scabbard on his back, his HK slung across his chest. He was wearing his corporate vest and his personal helmet, he was all about the look when it comes to company wear and procedures, being in a couple other small security companies prior.

Once they touched down, and were in the field operations base he finally speaks, "I vote the temple, I think there's more of a time constraint with that than the barracks."

Throughout the flight, Crow reviewed the documentation on his commlink. Over prepared always sounded better than underprepared to Lurking Crow.

“Right we’re inbound on final approach, if you look out the right side of the aircraft that’s an RPG I just dodged seems the locals are frisky” says Pigeon. Crow follows with a quick "Seems promising for our combat bonus..." to the rest of the team, directing a sly smile towards Meat.

At Flak's statement, Crow answers "Alright, we could do the temple first, but lunch comes second then."

Taking the time to sling himself into his gyromount, Meat attaches his MG and sets himself in for the ride to the temple, hearing Crow and Flak decide where they need to go.

"Ready to go whenever you two are"

Meat never really saw the point in wearing the company vest unless absolutely necessary. His re-patched UCAS combat utility fatigues were good enough, and didn't make the Gyromount any more awkward than it already was.

"And Merlin, I'll take care of the supporting fire. Don't take over unless I say so."

Meat really didn't want to have a re-enactment of their last trip to the Amazon.

"Before we head out" says Crow, as he gets into the driver's seat of the hummer, "I think we should go pay a short visit to the base's CO, just to let him know we're here and start off on the right foot. We don't want them to think we're cowboys coming to run their show, right Meat?"

Crow puts his gear in the back of the hummer, having what he needs on his person (a few plastic restraints, his foci, armour on).

After getting off the Transport and setting up base camp, a small tent pitched in a hanger with three cots, and box of medical equipment. All the while Merlin is playing “we built this city”, to help, but meat has turned down the volume. Next stop is to speak with the Commander of the Airport garrison, merlin has located him in a building adjacent to the control tower. Crow starts driving, passing through two security checkpoints and arriving at the command “bunker”. The bunker was a small mechanical building that’s been fortified sandbags, metal, and concrete barricades. Parking your vehicle in a small parking lot, the team gets out and heads into the command bunker. Two things you notice immediately large numbers of wounded, the active soldiers look young and unprepared.  When you reach the command your not impressed, “Commander Gale Steiner” is a blond Human in her early twenties on her armor you see an ROTC badge. She’s flustered and trying to keep things together looks like whatever is going on in the city it’s taken its toll on the local garrison. “What, who are you people. What are they doing in my operations room?!” She yells at a guard, “I don’t have time for this. Tell me what you want and I’ll listen, you got 5 minutes” As the sounds of a gunfire starts up outside.

It does not look good, everyone in the base is walking wounded they’re mostly ROTC students and youth militia, the situation is bad.

Meat looks about the command post, nothing but green recruits and the bloodied. They'll be overrun by the end of the day without reinforcements. At the ROTC commander's yelling, Meat could only grin. Incompetence breeds incompetence, it seems.

"Yelling at allies is the best way to lose them, 'cept for shooting at them." Meat points to the contractor patch on his uniform.  "We're just checking in, letting you know that we're operating in your AO. Callsign is RE5. We'll be monitoring your net. Aside from the obvious, anything we should know about?"

Flak just stands besides Meat, he too was not so thrilled with the verbal attack by the human and chuckled to himself about it. He begins to listen intentively. Looking around the op room, taking whatever he can in, seeing if there are anything visible that can help the team or might help.

We will be going through the Mayan pyramid and the barracks where the attacks took place, as well as around the base here and possibly make contact with the locals. I trust that we have clearance to access these sites?"

Gale, you can’t picture her as a commander being a ROTC student two days ago rolls her wrist and activates her comlink.  It takes about a minute for her to find the transfer document and orders then you can literal see her eyes scroll down the document and come to a decision.
“Orders from command, we are to give you free passage through checkpoints and unhindered whatever your job is for the next 96 hours. After that your contract expires and the Azltan army will not give any further assistance. As for your operation do what you came for and get out, the city is a hot bed we’re only able to hold the airport reliably until relief forces make it here next week.“
The room rocks as the building takes another hit from some kind of large munitions, the comlink on the table screeches as someone calls in artillery to retaliate.
“Look I have my hands full, GreenWar is making a play for this city and I can’t let that happen. They’re hitting us from the North West, leave via the east gate it’s quite right now.”
Once outside the bunker your hummer is still in one piece but some of the other cars are a smoking wreck. Merlin reports that a small size mortar round went off nearby but the hummer is ok, he reports the wish to be somewhere else right now. Packing back into the hummer you make your way out the east gate and onto the city streets. Being not an Aztlan Military vehicle thanks to those massive Icons from Random Encounters you don’t take any fire from the locals and start heading toward the downtown sector and the site of the first terrorist attack. The close you get to the site there is less and less people, soon it’s like a ghost town and them only sound is from the hummers engine. Merlin unasked begins randomly tracking windows with the auto turret and designating possible sniper places on the hummers map. Crow notices that the safety is still on, but you get the feeling that Merlin is getting nervous for a no sentient computer program.
As the hummer turns right into a massive park that surrounds the step pyramid, the first thing you notice is the bodies. The ground is littered with dead, burned shot, clawed, chewed, and blown away. Merlin reports that there is three, no four EMS vehicles on the site but from the looks they’ve been heavily damaged. Soon the cries of crows and vultures can be heard and you notice the masses of moving feathers among the dead. Flies are also in abundance whatever happened here it looks like no-one wanted to come back for the fallen.

The commander is defiantly magical, probably a shaman.

Meat grunts and pulls a bandana over his face as they get closer to the Pyramid, keeping tabs on Merlin's assessment of possible sniper positions. Goddamned if that Agent wasn't proactive.

After they arrive at the pyramid and come to a halt, Meat hops out of the back with his MG mounted and his Rifle slung to the back. Giving the vehicle a thump with his fist on the way out, Meat begins scanning the bodies and horizon for avenues of approach and serviceable egress routes.

"Allright Merlin, if we get shot at by anything other than Indirect fire you're weapons-free. Do not engage non-hostile runners under any circumstances." He then routes his comms to Crow and Flak only. "I'll hold the perimeter with Merlin. Yell if you need support."

Thinking about what he said for a moment, Meat reminds himself that Merlin could be a bit unhinged at times.

Crow gets out of the vehicle on the alert, his eyes squinting from the smell of charred flesh, burnt hair and general putrefaction. "I don't need to remind you guys to keep your eyes peeled, right? Meat, make sure to give PRECISE instructions to Merlin. We don't want him to shoot a possible lead."

As you open your third eye, the world goes fussy for a bit. Then it comes back into view, with the astral plane over laying it (make a willpower check threshold 2). The sight you see is even worst than that on the ground. You can see bits and pieces of the moments before death, here a lady running before something rips her in two, the blood lances toward you. There a man trying to shield a loved one before being destoryed your mind can't come up with a better term for it, the man was whole then in bits. The crows arguing over the bits are now accompanied by manifest horrors of pain. These black and red blobs slither and change into things out of a horror trids. Your stomich begins roll as you observe the astral plan, but then you get a picture of somehting. Its blurry large and has 4 legs walking like a dog the size of a BW bug, and it has claws.

Visual inspection no survivors, nothing living other than crows in the park (from what you can see)

The turret moves quickly and targets a crow one foot away from Meat, the MMG then racks a round. Merlin responds "enemy targeted"

Quote
"Belay that last order, Merlin. Do not fire without my clearence"
Before Merlin makes an unnecessary mess of the crow, the weapon goes on safe and the turret tracks skyward. "Stand down confirmed"

Meat's quick scan over the bodies notices that almost all of them have been pilfered of the mechanical bits. There an obvious eye missing, another place a cyberarm was ripped free of a torso, also all the bodies are missing comlinks, guns and valuables. Looks like someone brave came through here to loot the dead.

Crow winces from the vision, a slight headache forming in the back of his head. He leans against the hummer as he says to the rest o the team, "There was a carnage over here alright. So much pain and suffering is here it's quite literally giving me a headache. I wasn't able to see how it started, but I got a glimpse at something not metahuman. Seems like some sort of critter, but I can't be sure what I was. Seems whoever is responsible for this had some assistance. No survivors.

Crow makes sure there are no immediate threats around them, and when he's satisfied there aren't, he does a small ritual to appease the suffering of the souls.

Not quite sure what to roll for that, if anything. Take it as shamanic role-playing if you will

Flak slides out of the Hummer and steps into a puddle of blood and afoul. Splattering his boots, with the remnants of so many lives. While Crow does the astral eye thing Flak takes a more practical approach of investigating the fallen. "Merlin begin mission recording use camera link to my helmet and begin tallying corpses and Weapon marks"  Flak sighs, this kind of thing was what Digit did best. It takes several minutes as Flak tracks back and forth through the crowd, while you document the fallen you find 4 broken comlinks perhaps someone who knows about those things might be of help. Too your left you can see out of the corner of your eye Crow doing a cleansing ceremony, it looks surprising like the Hockey Pokey.

The majority of deaths have resulted by claws or some kind of surgical sharp blade. Like knives but much much bigger.

"North looks clear. Rotating to the West. Merlin, report and rotate east"
Merlin pulls an R2-D2 and beeps at you, but the turret turns to the east and begins scanning. With the North "clear" you turn west across the park and see a game field across the lawn. You notice two things one no bodies there, but blood pools and  drag marks. Two there are some security cameras, retrieving data from those could be help. You also see Crow do the hockey Pokey?... but without magical reference it looks like he's dancing.

Crow then pauses for a moment to think and continues, with a straight face, "As to what it was, as improbable as it may sound, my "professional" opinion would be Big Foot."
The more you walk the site the feeling of dread contuines to rise, this was a major mojo event. If you had to say all the fallen were part of some blood ritual, they're deaths were used to fuel a ritual of some kind. Now that you've said it you feel it is rather unlikely that Bigfoot was involved, or even a single person to do this kind of ritual it feels like something that would take dozens of people working ion concert to do this kind of ritual.

When you reach the top of the Pyramid you find the primary ritual site. The layout is nothing you've seen before, there are five corpses there. Four of them are at the cardinal points with the fifth in the center each has had their hearts ripped out. In between the corpses lays spent brazers filled with burn herbs. The middle body in on an alter bound hand and foot a ritual knife lies next to the corpse along with the victims heart, with a piece missing. You notice, with a gut wrenching thought, a bite has been taken out of the heart.

I'm trying to convey the horror you're characters are seeing I'm hoping to get the idea across. Have fun investigating.

As Crow gets up the stairs, a feeling of dread drapes him like a cold blanket. His feet covered in blood, he makes his way to the top of the pyramid with the rest of his team. When they get to the top, the macabre scene that lay there causes him to shudder for an instant. "I hate this field of magic" he thinks to himself. He tells his teammates, "Don't touch anything just yet, let me take a look and try to figure out who did this first" before scanning the scene, on the lookout for anything valuable. As he spots the sacrificial knife near the altar, he takes a look at it through the astral, trying to see if there are any residual signatures on it or the scene around them.

Once he's looked through the astral, Crow turns to his partners and signals to them he's done with the scene. He then says, "At least we know it wasn't a self sacrifice and whoever is responsible for this is still on the loose."

"At least there's that. Maybe we could tell him he lost his knife?  I'm sure they'd love to have it back. We might even get invited to dinner!"

Sighing, Meat looks out over the wasteland. It was blood magic, of course, but aside from that there we no other clues to ascertain who did this, aside from those Closed Circuit cameras.

The astral plane here looks like is been torn and wrenched like someone was doing a summoning. Looks like what ever happened it did not work.

From the top of the pyramid you can see two cameras that can make out the top of the pyramid. They'd be the best chance of identifying who ever did this.

"I'm taking point, Flak. We don't know exactly what kind of threat we're dealing with here."

With that Meat steps forward, shifting his contact's vision over to low-light, then turning his non-shooting eye's contact off, allowing his natural thermographic to shift over, letting the two pieces of vision overlap with one another in a practiced brain exercise. Meat slowly paces forwards, looking out for obvious threats.

Meat sneaks down the stairs keeping as quiet as possible, his foot steps barely a whisper even in combat boots. Meat raises his hand and makes a fist to signal "halt" hearing voices ahead, its a soft conversation but it is in a language he can't makeout. Spanish maybe, but all those kinds of dialects sounds the same perhaps its Portuguese.

Flak moves slowly down the steps , his thermographic vision starts to kick in. The tunnel surroundings come into bland blue outlines, the heat of the day being drowned out buy the subterranean atmosphere.  Ahead you can make out soft conversation its in Spanish.
"We need more"
"the sun is up you can wait"
"I want more now"
"then go get some"
"But it hurts"

The conversation does not make much sense to you but it sounds like what even is down here can speak Spanish at least.

Flak creeps tot he corner, keeping as silent as possible. The darkness is thick and the sunlight casts only a single bar of shadow light, lying in the light is the severed arm of a meta human with teeth marks in it. Using his camera he shifts into the low light band and is able to make out the forms of other meta humans gaunt and ragged looking kneeling over corpse. It takes a minute but you recognize them as ghouls. The blind ghouls are feeding on the corpse which looks like its almost down to bones.

So basically you've found some ghouls hiding in the darkness feeding on the corpse. They are speaking in Spanish a basic conversation.

Crow nods to Flak. Sub-vocally, he tells the rest of the team, "Come on Flak, you know I only have passive AOE tricks up my sleeve.

He then thinks for a second. "How about this: Try to get to the northern corridor without being seen and then try to reason with them. If they need convincing, you can always tell them we got them cornered. Since you'll be talking from the northern corridor and we'll be in the southern corridor, the bluff might work. I'd rather not get into a close quarters fight with any ghouls, but if it comes down to that, we'll be ready.

They are hungry, and to corner cannibals like these without some sort of offering... we might as well go plan B. Meat pondered for a moment as to how much he DID NOT WANT to get Ghoulified today, then took a deep breath.

"Flak's right, if they're hungry enough, no amount of talking is going to matter. We'll try to stay civil, but the old saying 'A Smile, a Handshake, and a Machine Gun gets more done' is how we're going to handle this. Flak, translate for me"

With that, Meat flipped the safety off on his MG and stepped into the intersection, weapon already aimed and ready to fire on the ghouls. At the same time, he barked a forceful order at the ghouls, loud enough to have his intent known across language barriers, but also soft enough to not have the noise travel too far.

"Freeze. You move I kill you all"

Readied action to open up a Narrow Cone Full Auto attack if they so much as shift their weight towards me. Going to continue the post assuming they comply. If not, I'll edit

Meat waits a moment for Flak to translate the order, then continues.

The ghouls jump and back away raising hands in fear. Backing away you can see real fear in they're eyes.
When Meat speaks they quiver in terror and respond with.
Hunter!
Run Hunter!
IT will hurt US!

The group begins to turn away not wanting trouble. Three of the ghouls have the milky white eyes that are usual for the race, but the fourth's eyes are colored green and auto focus on the group, some kind of cyber eyes.

Ok so they're scared of the group calling them hunters, what ever that means. AKA the local Aztlan Garrisons have an open payout to anyone that brings in ghoul heads, so they think your there for the money.

The ghouls turn and bolt down the tunnel fleeing from the group. You wait several moments before approaching the relay box, it takes a few minutes to open the box and get at the internal wiring.  After a few more minutes of tinkering you find a backup data module, its encrypted but should have some camera shots of the attack .

So you need to either try to decrypt it yourselves, find someone who can. Or get a sat up link and have the company do decryption. Figure its got  rating 4 encryption.

*Flak just nods in silence as he was about to open his rations as he looks to see what he would need to pretend is food* "Chicken & Rice...yay..." *He says gruffly in sarcasm*

Crow listens to the team talk while focusing on the road.

"Yknow, *slurp* These things aren't so bad after your tongue gets numb *scarf*"

"Well, one thing's for sure, they can't be as bad as your cooking." He then nods towards Flak. "Remember the last Amazon job? We made the mistake of letting Meat cook and Digit was sick for 2 days" says Crow as he chuckles a bit. He then goes silent for a moment, out of respect for Digit. "Man, speaking of Digit, we could sure use him with this camera business right about now" thinks Crow to himself.

Flak bgan to eat and chuckled as Crow spoke of the other job, "Yes...at least we all survived that." He continues to eat as he looks outside the car, seeing the passing background.

Meat's on his game and sees the ambush a moment before it starts (Meaning you get a full round and no negatives). Ahead on the side of the road is a tipped over Van. Noticing the shadows on the other side of the tipped van are moving.

Flak gets a feeling that something is about to go wrong.

Crow is enjoying the food a bit more.

Meat scans the area, seeing the ambush. In a flash his wires kick and and the world slows down, allowing him the ability to get himself ready for the fight.

"Heads down, ambush!"

18 Initiative, 3 passes

OOC: If Crow has enough time to react to Meat's warning, he'll hit the breaks. If not, carry on

In any case, here's my Initiative (7d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3798925/)

Flak's head perks to see to a mass of commotion over Meat's growling alert. He gets his hands on his SMG, ducks and takes as much cover as he can...being small has it's advantages while he is in the back seat.

Initiative (Reaction 7 + Intuition 4) (11d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3798933/) bah! 13 initiative. I will camp my last simple action to use before the end of the pass if possible.

A the hummer clears the downed van there is a light and deafening sound. (everyone soak 6S -half AP, the hummer soaks the real deadly stuff) Then the shooting begins, lighter caliber round start pinging off the Armour of the hummer.

The enemy number at 7, all armed and shooting at the hummer. Four of the group are normal humans, dressed in rages and armoured vests. They're shooting with what looks like Colt M23a light assault rifles. The three figures behind them are hulking, your not sure if they are trolls or other kinds of meta humans they've got fur and are unloading with MMG's at the hummers side.

Right I think meat has two actions to play with then its to iniative, to steam line the combat make all your IP passes when its your turn also the goons go last.  The hummers Armour is holding up for the moment but its getting pounded. /spoiler]

Gritting his teeth and squinting through the shockwave, Meat steps out of the Hummer and sprays the area, laying down a base of fire to cover Flak and Crow.
