As stated on the tin, I'd like some assistance with putting together a version of the Frostmane character in my signature that is Shinto rather than Hermetic tradition.  I realized that considering where the character would have gotten her training, Shinto would have been more likely to have been how she was taught.

The obvious first change would be to swap your Charisma and Logic stats so that you can maintain your drain resistance. (As an unfortunate side effect, this will cost you some Knowledge skill points, but your social skills will improve.)

Also, if the character is Shinto, then you might want to consider getting rid of the Binding skill. From a character standpoint, I don't think that a Shintoist would bind spirits, as they see the spirits as kami to be revered, rather than just a tool to be used like the hermetic mage does. Consider using the points that you had previously put into Binding to strengthen your less-than-impressive Counterspelling skill and outright-pathetic Assensing skill. Your teammates will thank you when you can better defend them from enemy spells and identify auras of potential threats. (Likewise, you would trade in your Spirit Binding Materials for other equipment worth 2,500. Perhaps some additional armor... you can wear a little more than you currently are.)

Depending on circumstances, consider changing your contact from a talismonger to a Shinto priest who can give you an in with a Shinto magical group that can help you initiate.

Quick question: By flavor, wouldn't a 'binding ritual' for such a tradition be sort of a religious ceremony where the 'binding materials' are offerings to implore the spirit to stick with you longer?

I do thank you for the suggestions. Been checking for replies to it for a while before I finally found your reply.  :'(

*shrug* I guess that depends on how seriously you take the sidebar on page 189 that says that most spirits resent being bound, and that's why they will go on a rampage if the summoner blows it. (There's a reason why in SR3 only hermetics used binding, while shamans only ever summoned spirits briefly.) I've been having an argument with one of my players (who says that his character is a Shintoist) on this very subject for the last several days.

Something to discuss with your GM, I guess.

Anyway, I'm glad I could help.
