Is there any way to increase the Force rating of a spirit after it's been summoned or bound?
Remember, you don't have to kill the vehicle to stop it, just kill the guy driving it.

That's not possible.

With the exception of "ally spirits"
Street Magic page 103.
This is most probably not what you want though.

I was just curious if it was possible to increse the force of a spirit that I already had bound to me.  If I've got a spirit that's been with me for a while, but he's only force 4, I'd prefer to increase his force instead of finding a new spirit.  I suspected it wasn't possible, though.

You can, however, make it more powerful through the Invoking metamagic, converting it into a great form spirit.

Still, it's not like you can't have more than one spirit bound at a time (unless you only have 1 Charisma).

By the strict rules, no way to do this.   Ally spirits and free spirits are the only ones which can get bigger and stronger over time.

Going into house rules...
Fluff-wise... just run the spirit out of services or release it...  then explain to your GM you're doing some fluffy mumbo jumbo to resummon him with even more mojo and you're aiming to get the same spirit back with more force.

Or you could see if the GM will let you rebind the spirit at a higher force to increase it's strength.   Be aware... restrict yourself to a single point of force and have a good RP reason for this... or don't be surprised if the GM things you're trying to pull a fast one on him.    (binding a force 1 spirit with tons of services... then rebinding as a force 6 with all those services plus a few more... is a pretty clear abuse of this house rule).

Agreed, that is blatant abuse.  I was more worried about having a force 4, finding a background count that negates him, and was trying to find a way to not lose him.

Just don't take him into the BGC.  :)

You can always let him be disrupted by damage accidently and immediately resummon him... no?
Or am I just forgetting that he then has the exact same force as before?

Also, isn't it tradition based if you summon the same spirit time and time again or if it is a new one every time?
I think you can "release and resummon" him at a higher force, when your tradition allows so.
Nothing else but your tradition should fluffwise restrict you there.

Also, maybe a metaplanar quest to get the spirit formular to resummon that exact same spirit, maybe even make him an ally spirit if you are so fond of him?

I should've said it more clearly.  I'm not speaking about an RP connection to a spirit.  I mean a spirit that I've been building up a stockpile of services with.  Letting him be disrupted would remove all of the services, wasting the nuyen I spent and requiring more nuyen to rebind him.

yeah that is kind of nogo ruleswise

disruption dosn't mean your services go to waste afair, but since this is not an area where I have that much expertise I'll leave it

That was my first impulse, too. Wait for 28-Force days and the spirit is available again with all services, but unfortenately
SR4A page 186 under Spirit Combat:
Quote
If all of the boxes on a spirit’s Condition Monitor Track are filled in, that spirit is disrupted and forced back to its home metaplane. Any services still owed by the spirit are lost

What about this House-Rule:

To increase the force of a spirit, the mage rolls his/her magic vs the spirit's force. Every 2 net hits will increase the force of the spirit by 1 point. The ritual requires a magical lodge, ritual materials, and a number of hours equal to the difference between the spirit's current force and desired force. If the mage fails, the materials are expended and the spirit's force does not increase. On a glitch, the mage may lose 1 or more points of magic for and extended period of time. On a critical glitch, the mage loses 1 point of magic permanently and the spirit's force is reduced by 1.
