Okay, it strikes me as odd that there's no capacity that I can find on Gas Masks. Gas Masks don't have ratings because they just offer you flat one-hour immunity to inhaled toxins thanks to an air tank. You'd think that ultrasound, low light, and/or thermographic would be common to find on such gear.

Maybe it's lower face only? I thought this too until I realized the potential of them NOT being a full face covering.

Actually the fluff says they cover the full face.

The Gas Masks aren't explicitly listed as being able to take things like vision enhancements.

But it wouldn't be outrageous to buy a Gas Mask and a set of Goggles, paying the full amount for both and describing it as a single item that is a Gas Mask that has a high tech display in the face mask (or something like that).

They have that in WAR!. The Death Mask, which has the capacity for visual mods, a built-in rebreather, and slight intimidation factor.

There are also GM's that ban the War! book out right. Most just limit what you can get from it.

I did something like this for Firebug.  I just had her get a helmet, and paid to put an internal air tank inside it.  Otherwise, you could use the stats for the Death Mask from Attitude on page 155.  It's a helmet that's also a gasmask, and thus it can get vision enhancements like all helmets can.

Jeeze.  It would almost sound stupid until you realize we're talking about an immortal elf clown sword fighting a dragon ghost in a mall.

Wait, helmets can get vision enhancements? :o

Following the Armor Suit Capacity rules in Arsenal, yes. On top of that, some of the helmets in Arsenal already come with some enhancements. For example, a firefighter Bunker Helmet comes with thermo vision, low light, flare comp and gas mask, then has 3 capacity left.
How am I not part of the forum?? O_O I am both active and angry!

Yup and the full body armour helmet from the SR4A book comes with 7 capacity while the Bike Racing helmet from Arsenal comes with Flare Comp, Image Link, Wireless and Surround Sound music system and has 6 capacity after that.

The thing that doesn't cover your whole face is called a respirator.

Yeah, tear gas sucks to touch your skin. When it's in our eyes, it is just horrible. Some guys throw up it's so bad. Military gas masks cover your whole face, and I wouldn't label military as masks as "milspec" because there are better civilian models.

Though, gas masks we use today, (Like the kind my husband bought from the local army navy surplus) are just gasket sealed respirators that cover the whole face. They have no air supply, only 1 or 2 (maybe more) filters that block out a variety of threats. That's not to say there aren't SCUBA style breathing masks, but what you're likely to pick up uses chemical and mechanical means of filtration.
