hello to all.

im co-dming a campaign of SR 4th and one of the player (the other DM) made this character who live all his life in a saeder krupp space colony. He is hellbent on his PC having a Jetpack, he argument that there are jetpack today so by 2075 its only logical to have one. Being him the other DM i cant just forbit him the jetpack and i coulndt find it in any of my books.

Do any know where could i find it?

thanks

There is a "Spacesuit Maneuvering Unit", which only works in zero-g.

And if he's making this character as a PC for when you're GMing, you better believe you get veto privileges - the mere fact of being Co-GM does not mean his character gets whatever he wants.

Aren't jet packs extremely unstable anyway, with a single pilot error killing you? The only stable one is a water one which confines you, y'know,  to water.

Anyway, the only thing I can find is the powered glidersuit that let you fly horizontally for a while in War!

that may work as what he has in mint is more like a boba fett jetpack.

Unpowered they have a speed of 100 m/CT at a 1:3 down/forward, so I'm guessing that means ~30m down and 90m each Combat Turn (so 10 down and 30 ahead each second). With the jetpack, they can go for 60 Combat Turns horizontally at 200m/CT, which equals 12km flight coverage. Get dropped from 2km height and you can glide another 6km forward before reaching the ground. The suit is 600 nuyen, the additional jetpack is twice that and has to be discarded after use.

Sec Goon 1:  "What do you call a Shadowrunner with a Jetpack?"
Sec Goon 2:  "Skeet."

Aaaah, it's hidden as a vehicle. And slower than a wingsuit. =) Also, much bigger than a jetpack according to that drawing.

While yes, there are jet packs today, they are all extremely difficult to control, very easy to get yourself killed in, fairly easy to break, and most certainly not compact. In addition, the fact that you have highly compressed fuel on your back means that a stray round (or a well-placed flamethrower spell) will turn you into a bomb. They haven't yet been able to make a practical jet pack that could stand up to any kind of abuse, certainly not the kinds of abuse you'd see in Shadowrun.

Remember, folks, the phone book can be applied to DMs as well.

Jet packs. Sure the technology exists today, but then again it's existed since 1960 and really hasn't advanced a whole lot since. I think that's mostly a factor of being impractical as any real advances have basically gone away from the thruster/rocket idea and into things like that swiss guy's wing pack or that thing that the Sparrow in Armory is based on, which is basically a miniature helicopter. Tell your friend to go with the Sparrow or whatever it is in Armory and call it close enough.

Why does no one read the fluff?

Jetpacks are around, just not in mass production.  There are likely licensing issues as well if you get one.  As for getting and using one for illegal purposes, it's a great MacGuffin (No, not the one in Thailand) for a GM.

That, and a major problem with jetpacks is that they are really feasible. To lift and sustain the flight of a 150 lbs person takes A LOT of fuel. Fuel that also adds weight. We don't yet have a magical fuel replacement, and even in Shadowrun they are still using gas and electric motors. Strapping a huge battery on your back to make it electric also isn't a great idea. It'd be loud as hell. The best bet is the powered glider, so you can cut power when you get close to your target. As far as Boba Fett's jet pack? No. It used more magic to work than the Force did....
