Ok... Don't know what else to do but just take this super super slow, Knives is paranoid as fuck.  He has no idea what to expect and last time he tried breaking into something it went very very poorly...

First off we gotta take care of the padlock.  I had to look up the rules so I figured I'd just lay em out too.
20thA corebook p262: Defeating a key lock requires a Locksmith + Agility (variable, 1 Combat Turn) Extended Test, with threshold determined by the quality of the lock. Autopickers (p.335) add their rating in dice to this test; their rating may also be used in place of Lockpicking skill.

Knives will be using his Rating 5 Autopicker in place of the skill as he has no ranks.  I'll go ahead and lay out rolls taking the -1 repeating.
Autopicker 5 + Agility 6 = 11d6
11d6.hits(5)=3, 10d6.hits(5)=4, 9d6.hits(5)=2, 8d6.hits(5)=1, 7d6.hits(5)=2, 6d6.hits(5)=3, 5d6.hits(5)=1, 4d6.hits(5)=1, 3d6.hits(5)=0, 2d6.hits(5)=2 Double 6s!, and 1d6.hits(5)=0 and a one just to rub it in... Hopefully I got done before that.  19 successes and a glitch at the end.

Magical Threats 2 + Logic 2 = 4d6. 4d6.hits(5)=0... I knew it! At least it wasn't a botch.  That was the only chance I could think of that Knives might know what that means :(

In the campaign I ran IRL I usually house ruled that it was 2x device rating, or in some cases got a bonus based on a roll made to install the device... stuff like that.  Though my group essentially started as "Prime Runners" and then we played for about a year.  Not to mention a bunch of min-maxers.

yeah, you still hit it fairly easily even at 2xR. can be quite difficult as a GM getting the right level of balance, especially with mages on board. I enjoy it though!
