And I'll have my usual please Jeeves.
Jeeves takes each of your orders but looks aghast at the request for the well-done steak. He tuts audibly in derision at your choice and disappears towards the stairs, shortly returning with everyones drink orders.
Smith looks at each one of you in turn
Each of you has had contact with a new and shadowy group to some degree. Certain folk within the City have noticed the arrival of these 'outsiders' over the past year, remaining at arms length but sinking their tendrils into all facets of the political and economic system here, by using intermediaries such as the old firms {looks at Knives}, disrupting supply chains {looks at Hax} and stealing items of a magical nature {looks at Mantis}
Your food arrives, it's smell is just unreal and it tastes just as good as it looks.
A huge seafood platter is brought out for Smith, with some expensive looking wine to match.
As you tuck in, He continues:
Despite our best efforts, we've not been able to infiltrate this group. We've not had so much as their organisation's name to work with. Every politician, copper or banker they've bought has either been dead or too shit scared to talk by the time we've gotten to them. These boys are good, they are powerful and we don't know what it is they are trying to achieve.
{he looks at Mantis}One of you here has created the best lead we've had on them since their arrival, a direct chase with one of their agents. We were able to ascertain that this particular agent is a powerful mage, capable of manipulating light and sound effortlessly but Mantis here got him rattled, made him make a mistake.{Smith is clearly pleased with this turn of events by his beaming smile}
Gentlemen, enjoy your meals, we'll discuss the order of business when we've finished.

Smith claps twice, and the far end of the VIP room is filled with the holo-projection of the band downstairs, the soft jazz playing through roof mounted speakers.
Smith begins to tuck into his Oysters, slurping them down noisily before cracking into a myriad selection of shellfish.
The food is easily the best you've eaten in years, and each of your plates is completely clean by the time Jeeves returns.
Smith thanks Jeeves for yet another outstanding meal, acknowledged with a polite nod and half-bow by Jeeves.
Can I get you any more drinks or digestifs? Jeeves asks.

Smith orders a glass of dessert wine, sipping from it as he makes his proposal.
I want to hire you three as a team, you've all shown great talent and courage recently. We have reason to believe that the agent Mantis encountered left a datatrail within the gridguide system.
We need that data. Your role is to get into the Gridguide building in central London and retrieve that data for me. We need to move quickly on this before the datatrail gets wiped into the secure backup servers at the end of the month. This gives you three days at most to plan and execute your infiltration.
The Gridguide building is known to be a high-security facility, but I believe you have the skills to pull this job off.
I have an old informant, an ex-policeman who'll be able to give you a rough description of the site, but unfortunately, he believes he has worked off his debt to me already. You may have to "squeeze" some co-operation out of him first {looks at knives}

Smith pushes over a Manila envelope into the centre of the table as Jeeves clears your plates and brings your drinks order.
His name is Liu Xeng, a londoner born and bred, but as slippery as a Thames Eel and as bent a-copper as you'll ever meet. He briefly worked traffic enforcement before he was "retired" on corruption charges {Smith smiles to himself}. He now lives and works as a fixer in Soho. Has ties to the Yakuza outpost here. Watch yourself there, they'll know you mean trouble.
Your re-imbursement will be 10,000NY per head. it will be split 20/80 on agreement to the job, giving you a 2000NY advance to procure any equipment you may need.
I request the data in triplicate on datachips, to be supplied at a dead drop at a location to be disclosed upon completion of the task.

Any questions?

When his drink arrives Knives swirls the glass around and smells it taking a small sip. *I'm already liking this job.  This beats the hell out that synthahol drek.*  He listens intently to Mr. Smith until the food arrives then takes a quick second to examine the condition of his steak knife.  Knives waits patiently until the Johnson gives the que to dig in then he deftly slices up the juicy steak.  Putting the first bite in his mouth he lets out an "mmmm" then addresses Jeeves.  "That sir is a damn fine steak.  My compliments to the chef."

After stuffing his gut with the fine piece of meat Knives sits back, quite satisfied.   He smiles when the squeezing is mentioned and reaches for the envelope once it comes to a stop on the table.  He speaks up as he looks through the contents,  "Well Mr. Smith I must say I like your style.  I'm sure I can coax some information from your former associate.  If you're right and this organization is behind loads of trouble for my family I'm in.  Breaking into GridGuide sounds like quite a task though. "

He passes on the envelope looking to one of the other men to pick up on his que.

Inside the envelope is a picture of a middle aged, chinese looking man. There is also the name of a restaurant in Soho (Chinatown) underlined.
"Yes, it will be quite a task. I'm sure the three of you are inventive enough to manage the task at hand though. Remember, you have upto three days. Proper planning prevents poor performance as my mother used to say"
He lifts a glass in your direction as he speaks to emphasise his point.

Knives raises his glass in response, "Heh fancy that my dad used to say the same thing... had another P in it though.", then takes a sip of the fine scotch.

Hax perks up at the mission. Then even more at the reward.*fun, challenging, and pays well all in one? This just keeps getting better. * "just what kind of matrix security we talking? Do we know? Or is that something this crook of a cop will tell us?" he asks after finishing off his lobster.

"The technical aspect is outside of my speciality I'm afraid. I would expect it to be very well defended given that it runs the entirety of the capital's traffic though, wouldn't you agree? Liu may well be able to answer some of those questions, though I believe he was more involved in on-site security

Mr Smith's tone change slightly, becoming more formal and more defensive.
The pay for the job reflects the risk. From what I hear you are a capable hacker. I assume you will take the necessary precautions to allow you to succeed in your role..

"of course. I just try to get every advantage I can my friend. Knowledge is power, after all."
the change in tone goes unnoticed for the most part by hax. He leans back, seemingly done with questions.

Mantis was very pleased with his stake growing up on the out skirts of Edinburgh when ever he ate meat his mother would always burn it to make sure that anything dangerous was dead. Mantis keep quit through the dinner and the conversation about the run, he was sporting a troll construction company inside his head and didn't want to get them jack-hammering again.

Once Smith raised his glass Mantis up lifted his black coffee mug too. I'm in. Mantis said as he starts running ideas on how to get into the building.

The toast signaled the end of the meet, your discussions were complete and 3 credsticks were pushed across the table, each loaded with your 2000NY advance.
Smith also pushed a disposable commlink across the table;
Contact me on this when the job is done. It will call an anonymous 'Trid service and will only work once. I'll give you the co-ordinates for the dead drop and you will receive the rest of your payment.
Please do not even consider taking this advance and running. Needless to say we have taken precautions, should you decide not to honor your part of our gentleman's agreement. It should also go without saying that if you are caught, we will deny everything.
Good luck gentlemen, I hope to hear from you by Friday.

Jeeves returns with your jackets and bids you farewell.

Knives downs the rest of his expensive beverage then takes one of the credsticks.  Once they all get back outside he puts his Greatcoat back on, lights up a cigarette, and addresses his new teammates, "Oi fellas before I forget here's a number you can reach me at.  I've got to pop back home real quick, check on me boys, then what do ya say to meeting somewhere we can hash out a plan?"

*I sure hope they talk more during the planning than they did during the meet.*
