SR5 continually mention limits and how they are based off of your attributes, but I can't seem to find how exactly to calculate those limits.  The actual chapter itself on "Hits and Limits" says it's based on your mental, physical, or social attributes and send me a page number to the attribute descriptions since that's where they are derived from, but in the attribute descriptions it doesn't tell me how to calculate the limits of each.

Is it just an average of all the attributes in each category? But in the example it states that because of a high BOD and STR the example character has 6, but doesn't really tell me what his BOD and STR are... Or is the limit merely the attribute used in the given skill?

I'm obviously missing something here

^This. What he said.

Mental: ( LOG + LOG + INT + WIL ) / 3 (round up)
Physical: ( STR+ STR + BOD + REA ) / 3 (round up)
Social: ( CHA + CHA + WIL + ESS ) / 3 (round up)

In some cases inherit limits are not used. Many weapons use accuracy as limit (listed under gears, only a few use physical inherit limit). Hacking use matrix attribute as limit. Technomancers often use Level as limit just as spellcasters use Force as limit. Astral inherit limits are either Mental or Social whichever is highest....

Thanks, I hope they end up putting a page reference to the table in a future errata to the actual text section on limits.

Not really necessary, since it should be rather expected for someone to go through the entire character generation chapter while building their character.

I'm having some trouble calculating my limits at the end of character creation, so maybe you can help.

When I look at the final calculations table for limits it shows a -- in the augmentation bonus column, so does this mean only calculate using
the character's unmodified attributes?  One of my augmentations states to use it in calculating Limits: Reaction Enhancers 2 (Wireless).

Wireless Reflexes also offer a reaction enhancement but don't explicitly state to use the bonus when calculating Limits.

It's left me a bit confused. I've tried to use the pre-generated characters to work it out how the writers envisioned the rule, but with no luck. Pretty sure the Sam works out correctly if his ware is factored in, but when I tried with the Tank I couldn't figure out how they came up with the Limits.

So, is it just on a case by case basis with each piece of bioware and cyberware?

Edit-- I'll go ahead and list what ware gives me bonuses to my attributes, if that helps;
Reaction Enhancers (Wireless Enabled) 2 + 2Reaction {Adds Rating to Reaction, Always active Mod}
Wireless Reflexes 2 (Wireless Enabled) 2 +2 Reaction {Adds Rating to Reaction, must be activated; so no bonus?}
Muscle Augmentation 2 +2 Strength {Adds Rating to Strength, so maybe? Always active Mod}
Bone Density Aug 2 + 2 Body {Thinking this may not contribute: adds body for Damage Resistance Tests)
Muscle Toner 1 +1 Agility {Adds Rating to Agility,  Always active Mod}

Any help would be appreciated.

You include augmentations and other boosts to your attributes when calculating limits.

The only possible exceptions are cyberlimbs, which I dimly recall someone saying otherwise on.

Since I don't know the stats, I can't tell you the limits. But:

Assume core X for Limit. Muscle Toner adds 1 point, Muscle Augmentation 2x2, Reaction Enhancers (we assume they're on) 2, that's 7 so either 2 or 3 limit more. If Wireless is on, you got 2 more Reaction for 9 total, so X(X+Y(X+3)) is basically your limit.
How am I not part of the forum?? O_O I am both active and angry!

As Muscle Toner only adds to Agility, it won't have the slightest affect on Limit.

[(Str x 2) + Body + Reaction] / 3 rounded up
