"I am always interested in a mystery."  Kuren says to the Johnson.   *But why all these people?   I could investigate a murder on my own... Unless it's one we haven't committed yet.*  He slumps down slightly in his chair emulating his sinking suspicions about this job.

Scanning the room quickly, Mia sees smiley, a familiar face she recognises from the scene and one of the guys who seems to think hes some film noir detective
"Well with a team of this size and the dick tracy wannabe over there, should be a cake a walk, just play it cool, dont make a scene and hope this dont get in the way of any other gigs."
Mia leaps to her feet and slams her hands down on the table
"FUCK YEAH!! Sign me up, bitches!!" and flashes one of her winning and over excited smiles, the sounds of a shredding guitar can be heard faintly in quite shock of the room.
"Aww yeah, smooth as silk bitch, smooth as silk"

Mr. Tanaka says "You must have quite a few, but your question will be answered shortly. I just need to make sure whomever is present to hear this is a participant first."

J's quiet agreement had been little more than a squeak after hearing "5000" he could eat for days if they pulled this off. Feeling that Mr Tanaka had missed his attempt at word he tried again but was drowned out by the sudden outburst of the late arrival. J jumped, barely holding his illusion together.

"I-I'm in if you're all happy to have me."

Smiling, Mr. Tanaka takes another drag of his cigarette and says. "A woman died recently and her personal effects were left to a friend she hadn't seen in over 20 years. Inside those belongings was a sealed letter explaining, in code, that her death was not a natural one.

"You are to find out who did this and why. An address was left on the sealed envelope, which should prove a solid starting point. The victim's name was Kobayashi Mizuki." Mr. Tanaka takes a pause to sip his drink and smoke his cigarette. "Any questions?"

"Why so many people for an investigation? Playing gumshoe certainly doesn't fall in my wheelhouse, so what's the catch here?"

[Crossbow]

"Obviously, he expects trouble from the investigation, and wants the assets asking the questions to not be linked back to him should trouble come.  The questions that must be asked are certain to rile the questionees, which is why he is hiring such a rude group of questioners."  Smiley spares an apologetic glance for his fellows, hoping some of the rougher ones missed the slight entirely.

"Do we have a timetable?  Limits on questions, or on Qustionees?"  Smiley is already calling up appropriate resources and files the name on a ScrapNote^TM of his com for ready reference, "Your offer is generous, barring those obstacles, as long as there is a sufficient enough advance and some expense coverage to be included?"  Smiley lets the question hang, hoping these strangers will be professional enough to allow him to negotiate, unmolested.

Mr. Tanaka looks at Pipebomb and says "The catch is that we asked to see the death certificate to confirm the cause of death but were told at the last minute that our request got overridden by a higher authority. I'll let you guess as to who or what is higher authority." He then turns to Smiley and says "No timetables per say, but the longer you take, the colder the trail. I can't grant you an expense account, but I can give you ¥1,000 each in advance and the full ¥5,000 upon completion. Once you're done, come back to this club and tell the barmaid that gave you the VIP tokens "A rat doesn't fly but a crane dies alone". She will then tell you where and when to make the exchange."

[Chrona]

J gave Smiley a concerned look, "That is a bit harsh considering we all just me." Turning to Tanaka, "Um... Is proof enough or do you want us to bring whoever is responsible to you?"

Smiley looks at J with a grin, "We haven't all 'just met'..." The Amerind reaches back to rub his shoulder blade ruefully, but the grin stays as he glances towards Mia, "This kitty in particular has pretty sharp claws for example, but we are all professionals, and we can get to know each other over noodles later."  Smiley settles back with his drink and let's the others get their information, his part settled.

Kuren raises one hand slightly, "Actually sir i have a multitude of questions would you prefer I compile a list?  It would be easier than rattling them off but it's up to you."

He mentally starts a file labled 'The Tanaka Investigation' the first thing is a list of several questions which could aid in the start of the case.  He prepares to display the list in AR for all to see.


1) Last known address of the victim
2) Any known enemies
3) Did the victim have any romantic interests?
4/5) Would it be possible to get a copy of the will or autopsy?

Mr. Tanaka turns over to J. "No need to bring anybody here. There are other ways to honour a person's memory, and we will decide what to do once you can provide the necessary information. We would like proof, however, of that information." He then reaches into his coat to take something, the gesture making Pipebomb tense long enough to realize he is reaching for his glasses. He puts them on and takes a look at the AR document.

"Alright, the only address we have is the one on the envelope. The interested party hadn't seen Ms. Kobayashi in 20 years, so no information on enemies or love interests. We couldn't get a copy of the autopsy, as mentioned before, and the will was a crude one, leaving her personal belongings to goodwill except for a box of items, including the coded letter, to the interested party."

"What else was in the box, may I ask? Heirlooms?" J doubted they'd be so lucky as to contain a commlink with all the information they needed but hey, a piece of paper with initials or a receipt or any trinkets could be useful.

[Lumen]

Kuren furrows his brow and nods as the Johnson answer, "The address is an adequate start."
He looks around to his fellow runners, "If we have come to an agreement I suggest we begin our investigation immediately."

With mental commands he starts a search on the location.
