Well there's still the question of the Chupacabras population landing their spaceship there...

About the only other reference that I can dredge up out of my memory banks, is the fact that ghost Lemurs exist in the Renraku Arcology. OK, yes this was circa 2050 (mentioned in the novel Never Deal With A Dragon) and before that rampant AI ran amok stuff. (Part of the waterfall rocks in the mall park/foyer description when Sam meets Hart for the first time if I recall correctly.)

Apart from that, its a big island of the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean, and like most islands has a unique biosystem and evolutionary genepool due to its isolation. ;D

Mostly rumors, cyberzombie hackers, dragons nest, pirate haven. There are no listed metahuman settlements they were either wiped out by disease or fled. The Lemur population had a huge boom for reasons I don't quite remember.
REJOICE! For bad things are about to happen.

hmm. From what I remember from Cyberpirates, someone  talked about great dragon nestwith maybe tons of eggs. Sounds a bit silly to me but, you never know.
At the oposite, as far as the rumors are true, there is at least one delataclinic and local weapon research may be that of state-of-art. And all of this without corporatins, cops and other scums. Just pirates, worlds most-wanted terorrists and other top criminals, cyberzombies and cyborgs, pirates, bunch os most unscrupulous guys ever lived on Earth. Looks like a hell for a normal citizen, but as heaven for bounty hunter or smuggler.

Heard nothing about Awakened Lemurs, even in Running Wild and Ferral Cities I have not found them.

Really nasty possible back link to Earthdawn, however, since the dragon of Madagascar - usually called 'Fanany' - is apparently a Hydra.  Dragons HATE hydras, since hydras were supposedly created by a mage waaaaaay back from stolen dragon eggs.  The whole thing about Fanany watching over hundreds of dragon eggs in a giant cavern doesn't entirely make sense, on the face of it - probably more unrevealed backstory there.

Harlequin also has made stopovers in Madagascar, if you believe Cyberpirates.

WOW. Hydra would make sense, I remember somethuing about multiple heads. What powers it may have. Like you say, it is "probably more unrevealed backstory"...
Would you be able to tell me a refference, where to look in Earthdawn sourcebook? I will find out more on my own...
Maybe we will find out one day, so I let it sleep quietly and do not let my runners to be aware...

Yup, the final unpublished version that FASA stuck online before they bought the farm. There is a hardcopy revision that was published by Living Room Games for their 2nd Edition Earthdawn tangent. Its pretty much the same but a few bits are modified for their particular plotlines. Should be able to find an online copy of the original version via EDPT website. cCheck over at the RedBrick website for other ED stuff as they do the 3rd Edition now.
