Alright, Pepperface is doing a LOT of stuff in this post. Because he's a decker, and the Matrix is lightning-fast, I decided to play things a few moves ahead. If I seriously botch any rolls, or if the GM decides he's going to interrupt the string of actions, I'll happily rewrite/retcon. Just trying to avoid the classic problem of "game grinds to a halt while the hacker does hackery stuff." Here's his actions, in order:
Swaps out Encryption for Edit on his deck (Edit gives +2 to Data Processing for Edit actions)
Attempts an Edit File action to change the KE pic from red-haired elf to blonde-haired elf.
Attempts a Spoof Command action to send the bogus picture to as many KE officers as possible.
Attempts a Hack-on-the-Fly action to get another mark on the KE guy's device.
Attempts another Hack-on-the-Fly action to get another mark, for a total of three.
Attempts to reformat the poor SOB's device.
Attempts to reboot the poor sucker's device.
Like I said... a lot of actions. Let me know if I'm out of line. But with that said, let's take this decker out on the open highway and see what he can really do. YEE-HAH!
Edit File: Logic (
+ Computer (5) - 2 (Running Silent) = (11d6.hits(5)=5)The Edit program brings Data Processing up to 5 for this particular test, so all 5 hits count. Good start!
Spoof Command: Hacking (6) + Intuition (4) - 2 (Running Silent) = (8d6.hits(5)=1)Yeesh. One hit is not nearly enough. Let's spend a point of Edge (first Edge expenditure of the game!?) to reroll those 7 failures, shall we?
Rerolling Failures: 7 Dice = (7d6.hits(5) =2)Two additional hits brings that up to a respectable 3 hits! Ah, well, I thought spoofing the (probably) faked picture to the poh-poh was a clever plan, but it may not prove necessary. Let's see if we can brick this sucker's device.
Hack-on-the-Fly: Logic (
+ Hacking (6) + Codeslinger (2) - Running Silent (2) = (14d6.hits(5)=4)Not terrible. Here's another:
Hack-on-the-Fly: Logic (
+ Hacking (6) + Codeslinger (2) - Running Silent (2) = (14d6.hits(5) =2)Bluh! Ugh! Embarassing for a hacker of Pepperface's caliber! Let's keep a happy thought and hope Mr. KE botches his defense roll. Here's the all-important Format/Reboot combo:
Format Device: Logic (
+ Computer (5) - 2 (Running Silent) = (11d6.hits(5)=5)There's a nice big-boy roll. And the grand finale...
Reboot Device: Logic (
+ Computer (5) - 2 (Running Silent) = (11d6.hits(5)=8)Oh, beautiful roll, where have you been all my life? This is sadly limited to 3 hits due to my poor allocation of Data Processing.
Thoughts:
Computer is super important.
Data Processing is way more important than I thought it would be.
