In a weeks time I will be running a Shadowrun Fifth Edition campaign for my local university's roleplaying society. I expect to have a number of new university students join the game as well as people who are new to Shadowrun. I expect many of my players to not have access to there own Shadowrun books, at least to begin with. I would like to be able to point them to various free resources on the internet to help them get a feel for the setting such as http://www.shadowruntabletop.com/fiction/
What sites would you recommend?

Ghost in the Shell movie
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Akira
Btoom! manga

Not exactly shadowrun, but they give you a feel for some of the tones you'll find in the setting. The last one is a manga where a game corporation kidnapped 30 people, implanted them with a chip, gave them some bombs, and left them on a deserted tropical island. Only way to get off is to get eight chips (including yours). Only way to get chips is to kill your fellow players.

Cypher
Johnny Mnemonic
The Lawnmower Man
Strange Days
Virtuosity

Other stuff is good, but I think these hit the mark.

Also, don't forget the movies Dredd and Blade Runner. I am tired and have a hangover, so I can't figure out how to do those nifty title link things.

You might also want to take a look at the anime Black Lagoon.

As usual I will recommend Blackjack's site. It's old but it's got atmosphere for miles. http://web.archive.org/web/20070209170408/http://blackjack.dumpshock.com/ARCHIVE_fictionhumor.htm

It's not free, but I recommend Shadowrun Returns

It's entertaining, and I think they nailed the feel of the world just right.

These films/Anime are all great introductions to the cyberpunk genre, though readily available they are not free :-(

Thank you for the link to Blackjack's site.

I love Shadowrun Returns as an introduction to the Shadowrun setting, Let's Play videos of Shadowrun Returns are available free on yo***be or the like.

Can you point me to where I might see Neo-Anarchist's podcasts? I have not seen anything about them.

I am pondering a rock band "day job" Shadowrunner team as a theme and would appreciate any suggestions for media along those lines too.

T-Hatchet, the links I posted are sites where those things are streamed online. You'll have to deal with subtitles, but still, free.

I just watched Cowboy Bebop the movie and it reminded me a lot that Shadowrun has to offer.
