Got a quick question, aside from the Origins prerelease special edition, is there a soft cover fifth edition book? I've seen one advertised with the product code of CYT27000SC and was wondering if this was legit.

Thanks,

William

Only the short run of books sold at Origins are soft covers. The main run are all hard cover.

Absolute power is kinda neat.

Not quite true, Peter.  Apparently there's a run of soft covers that were done, and every X books that game stores order, tehy get a soft cover free.  I think the idea was to have copies available for in store use for demos, or to let players flip through, or whatever.  Though I've already seen one or two instances where the shops are just selling them.

Something along those lines, anyway.  They're not something we're selling though.

So can you tell me what the ratio of hardcover to softcover is and would this be worth buying for collectible purposes maybe?

As of now, there are no softcover versions except the Origins edition. I have no idea if there's any intent to produce another softcover run, but I doubt it as there's no real difference in price.

This is so true.  I got the three pack, one of each, and boy are they heavy to carry around.

Must be Origin editions at Noble Knight then. They've got them for $39.95, while they're selling the hardcover for $10 more.

See my post above.  The Origins books say "Origins 2013 Special Edition" and has the Origins slogan "Where Gaming Begins" under that.  There ARE a limited number of Softcovers that were produced that do NOT have the Origins markings on them.  They are incentive books that game stores get if they order a certain number of hardcovers (or maybe LE's, I don't have any concrete details).

can I use that book to beat the crap out of whoever wrote the word "Demo" across that fine piece of artwork?  (don't care about the sides.... )

We did that with 6 copies to prevent them from getting easily stolen.  However, by Saturday when we were totally tapped on softcovers, people started begging and demanding to buy them, and so we sold them.  Considering myself and a pile of demo agents were trying to run games, that was really annoying. :)

Consider them Extra Special Limited Editions. IIRC I even signed one for someone.  So double-extra special limited edition. :)

SO IT WAS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, that was some seriously great artwork you ruined!!! Place head on table while I wind up :D

And I get why you had to, but really, that just hits me right in the liver (the most valuable organ to a Canuck!) when I see great artwork (doesn't matter what kind) defaced by graffiti. :( To me artwork is one of the few universal expressions of humanity. It doesn't need words. Or slogans, Or hype or media attention... the imagery just moves you, speaks to you.... and should be respected, regardless.
