Johannes finished the plate of soy eggs and soy bacon and stood up, motioning for frenchy to follow him.
right, we're off shopping. Catch you guys later on, give me a shout on my comm if anything interesting pops up
Johannes heads outside and hops in the van, firing up its solid diesel engine and switches the music over to the national news service. Lets see if anything interesting is going on in the world...
Easing the van out of the tight parking spot he'd found, he manoeuvres it out onto the road and heads to the salvage mart.

Mlinzi frowns in annoyance at the response from Asha. She hasn't been in the shadows all that long, but she was quickly growing irritated with the Johnson's lack of detail concerning the run. You would think he would want this thing to succeed, she thought to herself. As Ultra and Frenchy rose to leave, she said, "Good luck."

Finishing her soykaf, she waited until 0845 to see if any of the others were interested in assessing the pick-up area before leaving the cafe.

You cross back over the bridges and off the island and into the lower class housing district, as high rise apartments line the street on both sides. Slowly, the buildings shrink and become farther apart. You are nearing the edge of the city as your destination comes into view. A sign on the left identifies Whulee Shop and Salvage in a mixture of old blue paint and rust. As you turn up the drive, you pass between rows upon rows of derelict vehicles and equipment.

Pulling up in front of a dun colored, old three bay shop, you note that the building shows the same signs of decay and neglect as the junked equipment you passed on the way in. Several vehicles are spaced around what you take for the parking lot, but many are on blocks, and only one, an old Toyota Stallion, looks like it may still run.

You climb out and pass through the open door to the left of the shops, into the main office. As you look around the empty office, you take note of the ads lining the walls for new automotive parts, or at least what passed for new once as you recognize most of the equipment being advertised is from well before the second crash.

After a few minutes of waiting, the door to the adjoining shop opens and a lanky African woman passes through. Her face looks to be covered in some kind of lubricant, but it is difficult to tell for certain in the low light. She pauses to look you both over. As she speaks, she wipes both hands on her full length coverall.

"I help ya gents?"

Alexander felt incredibly well-rested after his night at Josie's. The flophouse was actually a step up in his usual accomodations. He woke late, having slept through Mlinzi's offer for breakfast. He made for the cafe, finding the team just as they were finishing their breakfast.

At Mlinzi's offer, Alexander decides to go along. "I'd like to see where the pick-up is happening ahead of time, too." As he waited the others to finish their breakfast, he pulled out his commlink again and typed out another message. Something Isaiah had said had been bothering him, and he justed wanted to confirm...

>>>[Isaiah:] Just confirming... you're saying the rumors about the Maasai being bloodthirsty are true? I'm hoping to avoid contact with them, but just in case, any info on them you can offer would help me out.

"Sounds good," Mlinzi says as the Tourist agrees to accompany her. "I already asked Asha. Naturally, Johnson has yet to provide the details about the berth or ship identification. We may need to chat up a dock worker or two to see if they have access to a shipping schedule or manifest."

Finishing her soykaf, the elf grabbed her gear, nodded to the Toursit, and headed out the door.

I hope so, I'm after a decent set of off-road tires and a decent winch if you have any?

Frenchy scanned the junkyard with apparent distaste. And none of this junk. We're looking for good stuff. Cheap but reliable. We're willing to pay for what we get, but only if it's worth our money.

For the gopher out in tha lot? Solid piece of work those, take a beatin. Good thing for ya they are so common. The woman behind the counter crosses her arms and looks up at the ceiling, mumbling to herself. After a few moments, she nods her head, having reached a decision. I might have somethin that will fit ya.

She frowns at FrenchyI'm guessin by your friends attitude you don't wanna pick over the lot yerselves. If you want heavier tires than what ya already got, I can fit ya with four tires, but will take lifting the suspension some. Cost ya 125 a tire, and another 300 to do the work puttin em on.

As for a winch, yeah, I got a few in the shop. Bein'  the tires you are buyin, I doubt you are wantin' the lightest one. Couple of em too heavy for your ride though. It's not necessarily built for a winch, and they would tear right outta the frame pullin the loads they are built for. It's your lucky day though, cuz I think I got one that might work, but it will run ya. Guy who sold it to me swears he used it to lift a frame carryin three full grown trolls. Even if he was lyin some, it should work for your needs. Pricey item though. Gonna cost ya an even thousand, and another 100 if you want it mounted.

Frenchy nods. If you'd prefer we look over the lot we can, I'd assume you know more about your stock than we could find out in the time we have. We may be able to handle installation if the parts are good.  He pauses and shrugs a bit. I'd like a look at that winch if you please. For a thousand used it must be a hell of a winch. He smiles a bit. On the other hand we don't have three trolls to pull, so it might suit our needs.

It's reasonable. I'd like to see if we can get the price down a little though. Maybe get the tires thrown in or something.

She returns, pushing a cart ahead of her bearing the winch.

Look it over if you want.

log 5, auto 1 (6d6.hits(5)=2)
Ultra takes a good look at the winch, checking it over from every angle.

The winch looks to be in working order. The attachments show only slight signs of wear, and on inspection the cable appears free from kinks or other defects. The only thing you notice that may be required is a fresh application of lubricant.
