Hello fellow GMs,

My group of Shadowrunners need to extract a scientist working for Mitsuhama. Of course during the sessions i decided to improvise and since its was -30celcius and snowing outside my house i wanted the next adventure to be somewhere hot an sunny.. So i blurt out that the scientist is being held at a vacation beach resort in Aztlan. Do those even exist in Aztlan?

So now I have planned the following, The runners will depart from Seattle and will probably hire a Coyote, good timing on that book Catalyst;) , and will need to infiltrate said resort in Aztlan.

My question to all of you: How would you go about making this place feel different. I want them to remember this trip as something painfull or a the very least extremely discomforting. I want them to be scared the whole time they are there. How would you go about it?

the other book to check out is "Aztlan"

The only official book that talks about Aztlan in depth... it was written for 2e... but much of the info is still valid after to take the time to update it with the what has happened recently.

As I recall, it got nixed due to the release of 4e..... and yes it is an official book, I am sorry if I made it sound like it wasn't.

The important things to play up are the Neo-Aztec culture with its regular little blood sacrifices and general air of creepiness. And the law in Aztlan is that if the cops harm anyone while trying to stop your PC, YOUR PC is legally culpable for their injury or harm. Which is a nice way of saying that the cops have no problems causing "collateral damage" to arrest and/or kill your PCs.

Aztlan's also running pretty high on being a "pro-human" nation, especially since it just won a war against a nation ruled by three great dragons and as far as most people know killed one of those great dragons, who was considered a war criminal and a terrorist. IOW, Aztlan's a pretty popular place. It's ruled by Aztechnology, and Aztechnology has the best PR in the world. Everything at the resort town is going to be geared towards making it seem like the greatest, best place to be in the whole world, which all that propaganda is pretty good at convincing you of.

Aztlan is a great sourcebook; one of the best ever. It's definitely worth getting.

Thank you everyone for all the help you provided, the links and the "vibe/attitude" that I should use. I am quickly reading through all the material for my game Friday.

First thing first, they have to sneak into the country, that in itself will be an adventure. After that we will deal with the Vacation Resort.

Am I making a good assumption that their would be a higher perentage of awakened individuals in security forces? Police Forces etc.

Yes. Two to three times higher than average.


 If you have the Coyotes e-book, it's totally a Very Hard border with even more magic. It's militarized along its entire northern border, and crossing that border has long been considered the hardest route only done by the best smugglers. If it escalates into a stand-up fight, the PCs are very likely going to all die—either in battle, or those who are captured will be sacrificed to the gods (literally).


Then again if they are hitting a resort, they may be coming in via sea or air (though air has its own challenges), which could be easier. But I'd definitely emphasize that combat should be avoided when making the actual border crossing.
