I have tried to read up on the dragons of the sixth world as much as possible, but I there are some mysteries that make things unclear.

1. Are all the Great Dragons in the world known by the metahumans of the Sixth World and accounted for, or are some Great Dragons only known in the deepest Shadows?

2. When Ghostwalker came out of the astral were the other dragons saying "About time?" or were they surprised?

3. When the dragons gather, as they have when the title of Loremaster was contested, do they do a headcount and find some lesser and greater dragons unaccounted for since the Fourth Age?

4. I know it's been kept vague, but how does a lesser dragon become "Great?"

4. They listen to Japanese pop music.  That sounds glib, but the DragonSong CMP series involves this very process and at one point the team is sent to Neo-Tokyo to rescue the dragon's favorite band for reasons that are never quite clear.

As far as I know only Masaru is the only dragon to go from "adult" to "great" within SR fiction.

How he did his, or how it came to be, is unknown (to humans). But, to the onlookers who recorded the even apparently it took only a matter of minutes for his size to increase by 30% and for additional horns and what not just seemed to sprout out of him... and it appeared he was in a LOT of pain.

The Dragons of the Sixth World (3e) has a great write up for all the dragons and goes into the life cycle and other things fairly well.  (200+ pages)

Sadly, I have yet to read it all cover to cover.
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

RE 1:Who knows? The dragons ain't telling :P It was rumored in a fluff piece that the Immortal Elves spent a large part of the down time hunting down and killing the sleeping dragons (hence why the IE and dragons do not get along very well for the most part)

RE2: From what I remember, it wasn't unexpected that Ghost Walker would return, the question as "when".... and while I doubt they expected him to burst forth from the site of his brother's death, his return was expected.

RE3: Going back to that fluff piece about IE killing dragons in the down time, I guess there are quite a few unaccounted for dragons.... But who they were, where they are, or who they expect to show up next, just isn't public knowledge :D So who really know outside of the dragons themselves? The dragons are not talking, that is for sure.

RE4:it's apparently the last stage in their development... So when a little baby dragon is all done growing both mentally and physically they go *poof* and are now a great dragon :D (see my above post)

The idea that dragons turn Greatwhen they are old enough has consequences.

It implies that the lesser dragons are also younger.

Yes, that is generally what "growing up" means "P

Although is should be noted, with Dragons, we don't really know how old any of them really are. We know the Greats (minus Masaru) were greats in the last age of Magic, and we have no idea if any of the other dragons we know so well were born in the last age or not...

That's what I get for trying to post on an iPhone.

Let me unpack that. It implies that that *only* reason the Greats are great is *because* they are older. I rather like the idea of there being even older, much less powerful dragons who look enviously on the more influential Greats and are constantly looking for ways to join that lofty company.

Perianwyr recently transformed into a Greater Dragon.  It's not clear if age was a factor, but there were certainly many non-age-related things in play, notably attuning himself to different items in his hoard.

Ah, that makes much more sense :D

And, from a little reading I did in the "dragons of the 6th world" book, it seems that the transformation from regular dragon to "great" dragon has little to do with age and more to do with some metaphysical understanding the Dragon reaches... they make it sound almost like it is initiation for a dragon! Which, I guess it could be.

However, we still don't know what or how triggers this change and the dragons are not talking :P

Makes you wonder if there is some Gramps Dragon, one who is uber old but just didn't have the right stuff or mojo to make the leap to Great or might not have had the inclination to pursue it.

Think Chief Master Sergeant sort
Do you believe in a greater WIRELESS, an Invisible(WiFi) All Seeing(detecting those connected- at least if within 100'), All Knowing(all online data) Presence that we can draw upon for Wisdom(downloads & updates), Strength (wifi boni) and Comfort (porn) or do you turn your back on it  (Go Offline)?

I like to think that dragons are more inclined towards the "up or out" process.

Which is why the Known Adults:Known Greats ratio is around 100:1.

I still want to know if that's referenced in a book somewhere, because I read the book. I didn't ask for a citation as some kind of NerdChallengetm. :-p

1. Some of them are not very social.
2, Probably not. He was likely looking for a way to restore Yuichotol to her physical body and they all knew it.
3.They record just about everything.
4. They live past 2,000 and have enough experience under their belt to be considered accomplished.
