How he did his, or how it came to be, is unknown (to humans). But, to the onlookers who recorded the even apparently it took only a matter of minutes for his size to increase by 30% and for additional horns and what not just seemed to sprout out of him... and it appeared he was in a LOT of pain. 

Where is this info from ?

I thought they did some kind of hibernation like thing like when they go from Baby to Adult & cocoon themselves.

I have tried to read up on the dragons of the sixth world as much as possible, but I there are some mysteries that make things unclear.

1. Are all the Great Dragons in the world known by the metahumans of the Sixth World and accounted for, or are some Great Dragons only known in the deepest Shadows?

3. When the dragons gather, as they have when the title of Loremaster was contested, do they do a headcount and find some lesser and greater dragons unaccounted for since the Fourth Age?

Hestaby's thoughts in "Survival of the Fittest" fluff makes it clear that some don't show up to the meeting & that they have not been heard from in the 6th age.  IIRC, She is unsure if they were killed in sleep, have not awoken yet, or did wake & have just been lying low.

Given the above, I'd say its quite likely that humanity does NOT know about every Great Dragon at this time.

I read that somewhere as well.
"Great" doesn't happen till at least 2K years old.  (Either Dot6thW or that Earth Dawn - Dragons PDF or Clutch of Dragons...... one of those 3 iIRC)

By the way, in some book there is also a rumor/shadowtalk that one of the greats tried (or still tries) to become something greater than a great dragon. Super Sajajin 2 as the Jackpointer puts it. I think it was one of the eastern dragons. 

not sure.. but I think it was Lung... looking into some sort of Triad mysticism....

I was thinking the opposite big Eastern Dragon,  Ryumyo was trying to harness the entirety of the mana lines on the Pacific Rim to trigger a 3rd change into Dragon-SUPREME/EXTREME, or some such thing.

Jealousy ?  No seriously they are really upset that dragons got wings but all elves got was big ears.

(I believe it has to do w/ Earthdawn background & the Elves being "slaves" to the Dragons in the 2nd Age of Magic).

It was in one of the 3e splatt books. Caribbean pirates?  Away from my books so I can not go back and check ATM.

But it was in the Philippines section and was talking about Marsau's change to Great status during the Philippine uprising against Japan.
